There are IATA rules.

You only need to do a third of what the named airline has done, to be slammed behind the bars in a any local Police station for OBT.

Pray do share what policy has been violated.

The issue here I think is our national moral decay and where we are perplexed when rules are actually been enforced.

Is this from the airline company? NO.

It doesn't matter if Pope John Paul puts up a website, only the airlines policy is in effect.
airlines policies has to me in line with immigration law their cannot make whatever out of their own asses and stick to that, well at least thats how is works in most countries. Last time i checked if an airline policies contradict the immigration law a person has the right to sue.

Airline policy and immigration policy are completely different, and has to be.

I continue to see no violation by the airline.

They told him what is specifically needed to fly on their aircraft, a transit visa. He did not get one but instead got a letter.

Next time you fly, read the back of your ticket and you'll be surprised at the fine print you accepted by purchasing that ticket.

OP entered a contract with the airline when he bought the ticket, they promised to him and he promised to provide the necessary travel documents. OP did not do that.

Again, no violation. OP is free to sue if he believes otherwise.

As per policies, that's why I said he needs to check with an IATA certified agent.

As per moral decadence, are you trying to blame the victim?

The only party lacking morals here, is the airline.

Why sell the ticket to him if you'r not gon' fly him, having met the requirements stipulated by the country of transit?

And I'm saying he needs a lawyer because, he needs to take another look at the terms and agreements of issuance of the ticket.

Personally, sh!tty airlines are just full of sh!!tt . . . long story short.

That's why personally, regardless of the cost , I'd stick with any of the top ten airlines each and every time, if I can 'Business class', I do.

I've had too many nasty experiences in the late 90s and early 2000 with them 'molue airlines' (and they are virtually the same everywhere you go, Europe, North America, Asia, Africa), same route, same destination, different rules when you fly 'molue airlines' . . . so I can kinda relate to the OP's plight . . . they make my blood boil.

Believe me if I wanted to blame anyone I would do so without any ambiguity.

But just in case you missed it, yes the OP is completely wrong. Not sure if he wants to identify with the word victim though.

The moral decay in the country is alarming.

An airline has to use immigration law when formulating their policy, we are not taking about airlines like Arik that do whatever they like and simply get away with it. An airline cannot come up with a policy that contradicts immigration law and simply get away with it everywhere else in the world where the law is actually functional

Read bottom of page 12

The airline clearly states that passengers would not be boarded if they do not have valid travel documents.

Once we are united, nobody can mess with us

It is not about unity my friend, it is also about responsibility. Inasmuch as the OP might be innocent, we cannot overlook the fact that our fellow nigerians have terribly - I MEAN TERRIBLY tarnished our image everywhere and that has a consequence. If you have stepped outside Nigeria before then I wont need to explain to you what you see others do moment they see you with a green passport. It is time we begin to put each other to task on how to redeem our image. It is not about unity, if you are doing the wrong thing no amount of unity will save you

I'll blame the OP too for patronizing such an airline (simply because, another credible airline would have flown him -- 'no biggie'), OTOH, we learn everyday.

i just posted an immigration law that states that a person doesnt need a transit visa if he has no intentions to leave the airport and you are going back to ask the same stupid question? I really have no time for this.

Silly huh? We can go there if you want.

You're probably delirious or menopausal because I haven't seen anything legal that you've posted so far.

All I've seen are mere rants from you. Even the unofficial website you linked recommends that OP gets a tourist visa.

His layover is 4 hours, maximum transit time is 7 hours.very easy to eat up 3 hours either due to weather or mechanical delays. I applaud Royal for thinking ahead and asking OP to be proactive.

We should applaud the airline and learn from them instead of lambasting them.

I booked a flight with Royal Air Maroc Airways from Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos to Sao Paulo Brazil with an onward confirmed ticket to Mexico through Avianca airline(i have a 6months Mexican tourist visa and was to transit within just 4 hours in Sao Paulo).
On the 23rd of March,I went to the airport to board with my ticket but to my utter dismay, I was denied boarding, Reason being that i needed a brazilian transit visa if i am to board with them(when initially I was informed I didn't need any transit visa before I paid for the ticket). As a result, I missed my flight on that 23rd March and had to pay my agent upto 400 USD for the rescheduling of the two flight tickets.
During this time, I went to the brazilian embassy to apply for the brazilian visa, but they gave me a letter with the signature of the brazilian consulate stating that I do not need a transit visa to transit through mexico even for upto 24 hours so far I am not leaving the airport.
I was happy and rescheduled my flight for this past monday (Easter monday) and went with the letter to the ALML officials who boards the air maroc flight and there again the letter from the brazilian consulate was thrown aside. And this time they showed me a message from the royal air maroc manager demanding that they should not board anyone without a brazil tourist visa, even if the person will transit through brazil for just an hour, and all these without a prior notice.
This have really caused me lots of damages and as it stands now, I swear to take them to court this coming week and will see to it they pay for the damages even I this is the last thing I did with my life

The first time i flyed with airmaroc was last december and i swore never to fly with them again,if not that you have already spent so much with them i would have adviced you fly another airline, its not as if they have a better service,i think you have a case if you finally decides to sue them, airmaroc as an airline is absolute trash.

I understand where you're coming from but believe you me, you don't do this in a developed country. Air maroc says you can board their flight to brazil without a transit visa and from there you can board any flight to your final destination. You buys the flight ticket, hoping to board after all necessary arrangements and appointments but when you gets to the airport to board, Air Maroc says you cant board again that you needs a transit visa without a prior notice.
You goes and get the transit visa, rescheduled your flight, make another appointments but on your getting to board again Air Maroc says you no longer need to present just a transit visa but a brazil entry visa. All these changes within two weeks and without any prior notice.
True, there are other airlines that can take me to brazil with no hassles like South african airways and Ethiopian airways but I have already bought the ticket from air Maroc and according to them, my ticket is non refundable. The law is never from the brazilian immigration. I called the embassy and they highly frowned at the demands by Air Maroc.I also verified form Ethiopian airways and they told me they still fly nigerians to brazil even without a transit visa. The brazilian consulate gave me a letter with her signature in it, yet the airline rejects the letter and demands I gets a brazil entry visa stamped on my passport. Why would I go through all the hassles to get a brazilian tourist visa just to transit for just 4 hours in Sao Paulo?
I feel your pain brother.. Honestly that is shit coming from air Moroc, if they can't fly you then they should make adequate arrangement to refund you your money so you could try other airlines.. Its not by force to fly air Morocco and 400+ naira is not PEANUT to throw around with! Else you sue them, this is arrant nonsense.

Thats why no matter how small my budget is, i try my best to travel with well known, award winning, globally acclaimed airline companies. See emirates, qatar airlines, KLM, British airlines, Ethiopian airlines e.t.c those airlines will get you to almost any destination in this world. Their services are great, their airlines brand new, their transit airports squicky clean e.t.c so why will i go with a non entity like air maroc?
But i dont know, maybe the Op was trying to go under the rader by flying unknown airlines to wierd destinations so as to use mehico for yankee sneaking purposes. But even if thats your aim, atleast you deserve respect and travel with dignity. Therefore sue their azzs in court

If OP was American....he would have been on the flight. Why?....because the airline would fear any violation would open them to most likely a multi million dollar lawsuit. Why not fear a Nigerian?...because the most a Nigerian would do is to complain to his fellow Nigerians or the very airlines itself....no fear of punishment. Airline policy can include price for tickets...charging for baggage...charging for food and drinks or whateverr....but they cannot create immigration rules. Those they have to abide by. They are dead wrong in demanding Brazilian transit visa if Brazil does not require him to have one. Op needs to get the best lawyer possible....and work out a percentage pay...even if it's 60% of the final outcome. That lawyer would go for the jugular and that would make airlines and other companies think twice about doing as they please.

Note of warning to everyone, air moroc to Casablanca then to ur final destination is not a good deal at all,the fact dat air moroc refused to carry the OP base on transit visa, the OP should even thank GOD dat he didn't get to Casablanca & get his visa destroy by Moroccans immigration on a false claim of fake visa.it happened to my friend in 2013 when he got France visa & he bought air moroc, rooted logos-Casablanca-Paris. on getting to Casablanca the Moroccans immigration said his visa was fake & dey destroyed the visa by writing rubbish on the visa,my friend tried to explain to dem bt dey beat him & locked him up in cell then the next day dey deported him bk to Nigeria. The 2uth of the mata is dat it was my was who submitted his documents & passport by himself @ vfs & he was also the one who went to pick his passport up @ vfs wit visa on it,so how come the issue of fake visa come up or can the embassy issued fake visa, the answer is NO.When my friend got to MM here in Nigeria he was arrested by Nigeria immigration on the ground of deportation then he explained to the immigration & dey told my friend dat if dey discover the visa was fake,it will be a big problem for him,dey went him according to my friend & wen dey came out,it was confirmed dat the visa wasn't fake, right there @ muritala airport the immigration told my friend to go bk to French embassy to lodge his complain, then he came out of the arrival hall to meet me outside where i was waiting for him cos while he was in Casablanca in Morocco he called me and said to me dat he has been told dat he is going to be deported dat i shld com & pick @ the airport. so next morning i went wit him to French embassy & dey asked him why dey destroyed his visa,he explained to dem but the only thing the embassy told him was to reapply which he did but he was denied. What baffled me is that wat right did the Moroccans immigration ve to destroyed a passenger visa on the ground of fake, wen the visa is not Morocco visa.@ least dey should allow the passenger to get to his or her final destination which is the visa of dat country, there dey kn if the visa which a passenger want to use to enter their country is fake or genuine, cos every visa has a control number which can only be detected by the immigration of dat country. in the case of my friend,it was the duty of France immigration to check his visa status & not Moroccans immigration.Air moroc is always cheap bt it is not advisable.

Nonetheless, I will advise anyone who wants to travel to any south or north American country to stay clear of Royal Air Maroc, they are totally useless!

REALKINGSTON

from my knowledge, you have no chance in court, just let it go and next time, book another airline. If you take it to court, You might easily be repudiated with mere statement like ''you didnt show up at the airport''. If they say something like this, what proof can you tender to dismiss it as invalid? from your write up, I think none. Of course I might believe you showed up at the airport but in the court of law, its all about defeating your opponent and evidence represent fact, not words of mouth.

If something like this happens next time, make sure you do not leave the airport without an official letter from the airline stating the reasons why they are denying you boarding. The letter should state explicitly that you are at the airport before gate closes, you have an onward ticket and a valid visa to your final destination. If they refuse to give this letter, do not leave the place but instead, ask to talk to the airport police. Explain everything and insist that you get this letter. Perhabs, the police could pressurize them in letting you board, issue a letter or at worst cases, a police statement confirming the incidence. Only if you have a refusal letter/statement from the airline/police, then you can sue.

Do not accept to be a casualty of someone's ignorance, learn your lessons from this and move on.
