Hello Visa Officer,
My wife gave birth in the U.S we paid all our bills but when we went back to renew our Visa she was denied. The officer stated that she did not say she was going to give birth the last time and that she said she was not pregnant during the interview. The truth about this is that we were not asked if she was pregnant then because we went for the interview together.

Kindly advise on how we can go about presenting our case to ensure she is not denied in subsequent appearance.

Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure what to tell you. The 2015 season will be the first in which DV winners are asked to fill out the online DS-260s, and the applicants I see who use that form have already filled it out by the time they come to see me. There should be a "help" button on the webpage where you're filling out the online DS-260; what does that tell you to do?

I got a notification too.....but I'm scared....hope its not internet fraudsters? And I was made known by KCC that I'm gonna pay the Sum of $875 via western union transfer to a bank account in Poland and that after the payment I can choose any country for my interview. Kindly advise me on what to do and true is that?

Does it sound true to you? A bank account in Poland? Really? smiley

Also, it does not cost $875 to interview for the Diversity Visa program. The DV interview fee is only $330. And we would never ask you to send money by Western Union to a bank account in Poland.

Wow, just wow. Awesome job you are doing Visa Officer.

I have 2 questions:

1. What happens if a person travels to the United States on a B1/B2 visa with an honest intention of only visiting. However, on the said visit, he gets offered a job. Does he return to apply for a different category of visa or is it possible that he extends his stay whilst in the country on the premise of the job offer?

2. Is the social security number permanent or temporary for a person who got it in the United States while on a J1 visiting status and returned to his country of residence? I just seek the clarification because in certain countries in Europe, that number is assigned to you for life.

Thank you in anticipation and looking forward.

Please, keep up the good work and God Bless You!

Wow, so, basically, your mom's friend is going to break the law by helping you break the law, and you're asking me how to do it.

If you want to move permanently to the United States, you should do it legally. That is, a qualified person should file an I-130 petition on your behalf. Sneaking in with an invitation letter on a B1/B2 and just staying is 1. criminal 2. sneaky and 3. not smart. Please tell your friend's mother that I said that what she's planning to do is a crime with serious penalties.
she's not tryin to sneak, ND I hav not, ND dnt intend doin anythin illegal. she only sed, d way she can b of assistance is to send me an invitation letter. i'm jst askin wt dat means, is it for temp stay or hw. i'm a novice and no one intends foin anythin illegal

Good morning, everyone! It looks like our previous thread was a casualty of the recent data loss, so I'm starting a new thread here. Nairaland, I missed you and am glad you're back!

I am a U.S. Foreign Service Officer working at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, primarily handling Immigrant Visas and Diversity Visas (IVs and DVs). The purpose of this thread is to provide a forum for your questions about these types of visas. My colleagues and I will make every effort to answer all questions within two business days.

Please note that we cannot answer questions about specific cases, except as based on the information provided here in this discussion thread. Any responses in this forum are not to be taken as legally binding, as they will be based only on what you tell us in your questions, not on the information in any actual case. While we will attempt to explain U.S. immigration policies, any opinions expressed are the personal views of the writer, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the United States Government.

We may not be able to respond to every post in this thread, and we will not answer abusive posts. Also, please don't send me private messages -- I don't even read them. If you need personal attention, please send an e-mail to LagosIV@state.gov.

There is a separate thread for Non-Immigrant Visa Questions, also handled by U.S. Foreign Service Officers serving in Nigeria, at https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening . Please use this thread right here solely for questions about Immigrant Visas and Diversity Visas.

All the best,
VisaOfficer
@VO... I must commend you for good job you are doing here. I have 2 companies registered in New York since 2005, though I have EIN numbers for them. But no tax fillings since then, but thinking of emigrating to U. S now. First, I'm an Agropreuneur and thinking of starting a huge arable crop and livestock production in us, so now I'm trying to perfect my company's records and open bank account in us for that purpose. I have been prospecting for possible acres of land for my project in Texas, Florida, new York and Wyoming. So now I want to know if I can be helped by economic section of the embassy and what I need to migrate. ***Note: I was refused F-1 visa in 2004. Thanks.

Good morning sir/ma,
My name is Emmanuel, and I work for a health care group in Abuja. Thank you for the thread you opened in Naira land. I have traveled abroad for my masters in 2011/2012, as well as 2013 in London, and the Netherlands in 2012. I would be going for a health seminar in the U. S next month. Please I would like to know the type of questions I should expect, and any addition guidance that would help me pass the interview.

Thanks

Emmanuel.

I applied for a K1 visa in 2007, but was denied. Reason given was the officer thinks its a sham. To be honest it was not. I and my partner brokeup as the distance would not allow things work between us. We have since move on (i am married now).
Please how do i sort this out and get my records right.

Sir/ma,
Thanks for this wonderful job here...it really gave me the courage to open up on something that has being bothering my mind for long...
I was in love with an american woman ,we met in 24/12/2002.And in june 2003 she came visiting and we were together for a week, before she was contacted by a guy through yahoo messenger and immediately she wasnt herself anymore, even crying to see the guy,i have to agree...and we are having an appointment with the internal affair ministry...so we ask the guy to meet us there...And the rest is history as she decide to go with the guy.
And the following month after going back to the state she contacted me,telling me she dont know what came over her and she dont know why she did what she did...and that now she is pregnant and its for me...and when the baby came she sent her pics to me and the baby is now 11yrs old...My question is how am i gonna find out if she is really mine and how am i gonna claim my daughter if she is really mine as she claim?

I'm afraid that when a petitioner passes away, the petition is rendered invalid. However, please review http://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-through-family/humanitarian-reinstatement to see if you would qualify for reinstatement somehow.

Hello VO,

My sister is a US Citizen and had filed an I-130 petition for my mum which was successful and will be traveling by the end of this month. My sister got married some months back and has now filed for her husband which has taken some time now and still nothing yet. My question is, pending the approval of her husband's petition, can she also file another petition or it's best to just wait until one is done before filing another?

I'm afraid the Econ Section doesn't assist people with immigration issues. But please see http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/employment.html and http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/Immigrant-Investor-Visas.html -- it's possible that all the information you need is right there.

A past F-1 refusal should not adversely affect this type of immigration application, unless you submitted false documents, etc. And even then, it is often possible to apply for a waiver. I'm not implying that this caveat applies to you -- I'm just throwing it out there for general knowledge.

The 2015 Diversity Visa season is already under way, and the application period for the 2016 season is already closed. However, the application period for the 2017 season will once again open in October this year. You can always check the official site, https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ , for more information.

I see you have slightly altered your question so that it is no longer specifically a non-immigrant visa question. At your next interview, you will be given the opportunity to explain. If you can convince the officer that you are telling the truth, and you qualify for the visa, you should be able to be issued a visa.

I don't think I can help you, as these are not immigration questions, strictly speaking. A DNA test would settle your mind as to whether you are the child's father, but that's not something we can help you arrange. All I can tell you is that we often see DNA results from these laboratories: http://www.aabb.org/sa/facilities/Pages/RTestAccrFac.aspx

As for claiming your daighter, it depends what you mean by "claim," but again, it's not a question that I as an immigration officer can assist you with.

It's okay for someone to file multiple petitions at the same time. They won't adversely affect each other. (Unless someone files for, say, multiple spouses, or six parents instead of two -- and that happens once in a while! We do notice, too. smiley )

Immigrant visas are based on petitions filed by family members or employers in the United States. The opportunity to apply for a Diversity Visa, however, comes from winning the annual Diversity Visa lottery. Nigeria's eligibility to participate in the Diversity Visa program ends on September 30, 2014.

The DV program was instituted back in 1995 to help ensure that the population of the United States remains as diverse as possible. Having immigrants from all over the world is one of the factors that makes us a great country! So, any country that sends less than 50,000 immigrants every five years to the U.S. (an average of 10,000 immigrants a year) is eligible to participate in the DV Lottery. The number 50,000 was chosen as a threshold without any specific country in mind. Now, nearly 20 years later, Nigeria has passed that threshold, and currently sends more than 50,000 immigrants every five years to the United States! So Nigeria will no longer be eligible for the DV program, as long as its immigration numbers remain that high. This was a purely mathematical decision and has nothing to do with anything except numbers.
Thanks for being direct on this question. Meanwhile is it possible for one who does not have anyone there to apply as an immigrant? If possible how much does it cost?

In some cases it is possible to immigrate through employment, or as an investor. Please see http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/employment.html and http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/Immigrant-Investor-Visas.html for more information.

Good to see you again! grin

It's best if you stay in the U.S. until you receive your Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) card, then make sure you travel with it at all times. If you stay outside the United States for more than 12 months, you will lose your LPR status, so keep that in mind! Also, if you spend more time outside the U.S. than inside the U.S., at some point the Customs and Border Patrol agents will begin to question you. But if you can show that you're traveling for work, they shouldn't have a problem. Are you going to be able to change your work address from Nigeria to the U.S., even though you travel frequently? That would help.

If you do travel without your LPR card, you'll need to come see us for a boarding foil before you're allowed back on a plane, and that's complicated and takes around a week. So it's in your best interest to hold still until your card is delivered.

Hope this helps!
Is LPR as same with PR?

If PR means Permanent Resident, yes, it does. But the correct term is Legal Permanent Resident.
