From my realistic point of view, I have strong feelings that second quarter results of most of the banks might not be good enough to trigger a bull effect in the Nigeria bourse. My reason is that banks use to make a lot of profit from currency volatility but with CBN tighten of policy, it will be a daunting task for banks to replicate first quarter magic.

It is not that serious. Anyone with good intentions of transacting business in dollars should go through the CBN official rate. I can confirm to you that i bought dollars at the rate of 198.45(naira) each from a bank. Since the purpose is best for our business community, nothing will stop the bank from selling it at official rate. Let's stop deceiving ourselves by looking at this parallel market. If foreign investors are coming to do legitimate business in Nigeria, i believe CBN will welcome them with open hand with reference to our official exchange rate. It is high time we stop them from taken advantage of our situations... grin

The naira has hit another record low of 240 to the dollar at the black market, as the scarcity of the dollar persisted yesterday Daily Trust Saturday can revealed.A trader in Lagos, Shehu Aliyu told Daily Trust Saturday that the unprecedented slump was as a result of the scarcity foreign exchange that hit banks and Bureaux de Change in the key markets of Lagos and Abuja. This is the first time the naira dropped this low against the dollar. On Thursday the naira exchanged at 237 to a dollar before the end of trading yesterday the currency dropped by N3 in Abuja. Some traders attributed the drop to the new Central Bank ofNigeria (CBN) policy that banned about 41 items from sourcing forex in the local market. Some of the major importers are now scrambling to source dollars by any means which resulted to the scarcity of forexin the markets, dealers said. Before the CBN fore restriction last month, the naira stabilised at N223/dollar in the black market and N197/dollar at the interbank market.

I won't be surprised if it is not across board. Stanbic is private sector deposit dependent. The result might be a fallout of the CRR harmonization. Interest expense increased significantly probably due to fund pressure. However, H1 was tough for businesses/companies generally, so margins are expected to be trimmed for most banks. I no sabi book o.
Ah... then make I be 'dundee' like you when I grow up, make I fit write short, sharp analysis/insight like this one. grin

Will this be a good move or I will just be creating wealth for my brokers: CONVERT MY UNITS IN DANGSUGAR TO ACCESS BANK at this time. I need genuine analysis and provocative insight. Thanks in advance.

I will encourage you to hold very tight to your dang sugar as it is more stabilized stock with huge future growth. that company is almost debt free, with very strong fundamental.

As Agbalowomeri has said, future of our banking industry is uncertain as a result of numerous economic challenges. If you have money I will suggest, you buy Access @ 5 or less, it will be a very wonderful bargain

Nigerian market cannot be isolated from the happenings in the global economy especially now that our economy has been adjudged number one in Africa.

The happenings in China can be jointly managed by the world top economies as some of these economies are still not out of doldrums.therefore I don't see Chinese turmoil dragging global economy to recession.

As a result,Asian,European and American Markets may not be attractive to foreign portfolio managers now especially at this time when China seemingly has bought more than one quarter of America (in bond).

We local investors should not be extremely pacnic as our market is still struggling to recover from the huge meltdown of 2007.as a matter of fact 90% of the companies listed in Nigerian bourse can defend their current prices fundamentally,in a nutshell further decline will make them become riskless.

Now lets take a glance at the sectorial prospects in the markets.
Banking
The cheapest stock here is Skye bank, you may do your research to counter me.
Fbn,access bank, fidelity bank, zenith, uba and sterling are cheap, you can start acquring in piece meal and if you have cash to play with for 3 to 4 months jump in straight ,there is potential of 15 to 20% appreciation.

I will continue later

In other news, one interesting thing about stock market fora is that while investment polemics are ongoing, some readers (no, they are not gullible) go ahead to make investment decisions based on whose arguments make sense. Sometimes, or many times, this can be disastrous.

I remember when the WHO accreditation of Evans medical and the DEFAULT accompanying upside potential was mentioned here - a year ago or thereabouts. Between then and now...the rest is history.

Meanwhile, "VITAFOAM will do a counter rally and hit 100% by October year of our Lord". Hehehe...

#NSEMPA no go kee person. grin grin grin

Analysts at FSDH Merchant Bank Ltd., who also agreed that the operating environment is very unhealthy, said the outlook for July is not going to be better.

‘’We don’t expect a major improvement in the earnings of the quoted companies in second quarter of 2015 (which would have driven a market recovery)’’, one of the analysts said. In fact, the analysts forecast that the market may drop further this month, adding that the policy direction of the Buhari administration may set the path that the equity market would follow in the short term.
