Last week I received a call from a friend, telling me that he is back from Lagos. The question is...why? He is no longer interested in apprenticeship.....his reason was that "it's hell waste of time, that He came back to learn trade for just 1month, and will be going to work from home, after learning, he'll collect money from his poor parents and establish his own business". They man in Lagos he was serving before coming back is a renowned importer. His parents are embittered and disappointed with his decision. It's his decision right? Please advice this dude, there is no time o, because me self don tire! 1 Like |

Yes his decision is good and commendable. The apprenticeship of serving someone/ogas for donkey years in their businesses is obsolete and an advance slavery. There are no strict rules or laws binding these bosses to settle their apprentice after the agreed years, neither are they any fixed settlement/amount as the person might settle you with very little amount and leave you to squalor. A lot of this bosses devise means of dumping their servants, by laying false accusations, after years of their services without settling them. Learn a vocation and take your time to study every bit of it so you can be expertise in it. The one month time-frame you're talking about isn't enough and it's because of the impatience and the urge to start making quick money that there are a lot of Nigerians who aren't proficient in their handwork. You need to spend at least 3-6months term if you must be good at what you're learning. 1 Like |
