I mean this as no disrespect at all. Very common in Lagos today (especially on the Island) are many conflicting accents that sound a far cry from the usual British or American we know. Personally, I think being able to learn/speak in a foreign accent shows some level of ingenuity on the side of the speaker - that's really cool and something to admire. But please, do some research on the chosen accent at least, work on your pronunciations. Don't be mixing American, British and Jamaican accents together, you appear like a clown when you do that but your friends won't tell you. Simple "pineapple" you pronounce "pen eye po" // or "cucumber" you pronounce "co coom ber" is enough to make a complete ridicule of yourself. Learn proper pronunciations before you even think of faking a foreign accent! Love you all. |

Not just ladies. There are a lot words we pronounce wrongly here in Nigeria both women and men alike. A little use of the dictionary or research could be a game changer. 1 Like |

Phonetikkks: Words like Faith for Fate. And generally any word with the letter "th" is usually mispronounced. Thirty for taaty. Alert for Alat The word Idiot correctly pronounced (ˈidēət), is erroneously pronounced idioot by Nigerians. There are a goodly number of them, can't remember now. Will add more if and when I do. |
