Hi Guys! Good Afternoon! A special gooood afternoon to lovers of the English Language. Especially those who have a thing for the big uncommon words. I understand that sometimes, it can be downright irritating to see a connoisseur of "big big grammars" in a sentence that could have as well been communicated in simple English words, but then again, hey, some of us can't help but get enthralled by those who have a way of mixing the simple and complicated and still get their message across. So here's what it's gon be like... 1. You're strolling through the streets of Nairaland. 2. You find a person or convo whose use of certain words pique your interest. 3. All you need to do is click on the quote link, then copy the post of the individual. 4. Head to this thread, click on the reply link, paste the quoted post, and then embolden and/or highlight in any colour of your choice, the words that are of interest to you. 5. It is assumed that before carrying out the steps above, you have searched out the meanings for the word(s). 6. Now without copying and pasting what your dictionary or Google told you, try explain those words under the post you quoted. Please see example(s) after cut... dearpreye:I haven't searched for this word, but let me hash a guess...I think Hitherto here would mean, "before"...right? Caseless:"wealed" here means "wounded" or sore with injury, and... "Infeudation" in this context would mean putting me in possession of your pictures, right? "Infestation" Means someone or something that has been overrun or taken over by pests or parasites. Better Still, you can simply mention them on the thread to explain the meaning of a certain word or words they used in A POST. This way, the word gets to stick more so you don't easily forget, as you might likely engage in a convo with the askee. Please see example after cut... Ishilove, please what's the meaning of "inane" and "Mortification"? 6 Likes 6 Shares |

MizMyColi: LOL. Valid excuse. Who doesn't love purple? Literally, "pachydermous" means "thick-skinned". It could also mean "tough hide" or "impervous". I tend to use the expression "mentally pachydermous" figuratively which means "strong/tough psyche" or "being able to withstand psychological torture/stress or not affected by it". Example: How time flies... The once timid Mizmycoli is now seemingly (mentally) pachydermous to insults. 3 Likes 2 Shares |
