Nigeria Vows To Shut Down Radio Biafra - BBC by wisdomguy4u(m): 4:09pm On Jul 15, 2015 |
Nigeria's government has vowed to shut down an illegal radio station operated by people sympathetic to the breakaway state of Biafra. The ministry of information said it has "successfully jammed the signals" of the station. However, the BBC's Abdussalam Ahmed in Enugu says Radio Biafara is still broadcasting. It is not clear where it is based but it mainly broadcasts to the Igbo-speaking south-east of the country. The first republic of Biafra declared its independence from Nigeria in May 1967, but was eventually defeated after a three-year civil war that cost more than one million lives. Our correspondent says the station hosts phone-in programmes with listeners calling to talk about issues affecting their region and their desire to break away from Nigeria. It also attacks and ridicules President Muhammadu Buhari and other government officials. Although the Biafra uprising was quelled by the military, a group called the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob) has attracted the support many young people in the region. They feel they have been discriminated against by those in power in Abuja and demand independence. Several of their leaders and sympathisers have been detained by authorities and accused of treason. www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-33536252 |

funny, very funny. the Nigerian govt buys server while Biafra built theirs. how are u going to stop them. we are manufacturers not consumers like Nigeria. while they are busy reading manuals, we have modified our technology and moved on. if our fathers who were not exposed to Information technology like us could build war crafts, i wonder what the baboons and monkeys in the zoo expect from learned youths who are ready to ensure that the dearth of their 3.5m brothers and sisters did not go in vain. Biafra TV is coming. 17 Likes 4 Shares |

Illuminator9:You call it poo,but it is not "poo". The Nigerian state is trying to focus on the radio station alone without looking at the issues behind the station. A nation where some ethnic groups have decided to suppress other ethnic groups cannot stand. A nation where you cannot attain a certain level because you are not frm certain ethnic groups cannot stand. A nation where children born from some ethnic groups can gain admission into unity schools with ridiculously low marks while some cannot gain admission with marks that are 15times higher cannot stand. If really we want to build a nation, then peace is not the answer but justice and equality. This is not 1967 when the Igbos were killed in their numbers. Things have changed and if violence (which we pray against) starts, the Igbos alone will not suffer. The imbalance should be corrected and all those agitations will end. The problem is not radio Biafra but the feeling the Igbos and other ethnic nationalities have about Nigeria. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Biafra leaving would be the end of Christendom in Nigeria, can't see the SS or the NC remaining. Nigeria would be made up of the SW and core north in future, goodluck. 1 Like 1 Share |
