I have been trying to load the pin on the MTN voucher I bought and keep getting feedback that the pin does not exist.

I just want to warn nairalanders to be cautious and load any recharge voucher they buy on the spot so they don't fall victim to this scam.

Modified:
I bought the card from an elderly woman at amuwo odofin lga, beside the health centre. I needed change to check my baby's weight so I just kept d card in my bag, this was on Wednesday, yesterday (Thursday) night I tried to load it and kept getting that message till this morning sad

Local govt won't be open until Tuesday although I couldn't help thinking it's possible the woman was supplied fake cos why will anyone who stays at a permanent spot knowingly sell fake vouchers?

I'd same problem yesterday, i tried it 3 times before it worked; i think the third time i used *555*1* to load it, though i stopped adding the '1' a long time ago.
I guess its an issue with the newly introduced 16 digits pin.

Just tried that, same response. If it's a technical issue from MTN, it's best they see this and fix their system. As it is, anyone selling me voucher henceforth must load it on my phone before I pay

This is probably a new trend because I had similar experience sometime though it was airtel but I believe some people are trying to play a fast one on us by selling invalid vouchers. The annoying thing is that I scratched this particular recharge card, it was really intact but invalid. Tried calling customer care but it seemed that unit had gone extinct. Had to just give it up. I think people should scratch and load up at the point of purchase to avert #stories that touch
OK bye!

Re: Fake MTN Recharge Card (photo) by dominique(f): 6:24pm On Jul 17, 2015
Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Call their customer care first and give them the serial number. If they tell you the card doesn't exist, you can then take the next step.

Re: Fake MTN Recharge Card (photo) by Warlord3000(m): 8:13pm On Jul 17, 2015
Ain't fake.. Either the seller was careless and a sharp guy spied on the card and used it..

But am sure the lady seller is quite innocent... Doesn't make sense to cheat someone in that manner

Someone else has loaded that card. It doesn't show "card has been used by another customer" forever. after a while it changes to "......pin you are loading doesn't exist........"

check people around you. They loaded it long ago and left it in you bag

Op just call customer care first before you conclude

If the woman is staying in same location daily, it's not likely she's selling fake card.

Possible explanations/theory.

1. If the woman is very old and have no idea of security issues related to her stock, it's possible someone is spying on her to get recharge cards for free. Reminds me of back in the days when we used to go to cyber cafe to browse. There was this friend of mine that will always spy on the sales person to get free browsing tickets every time. Very smart!. I don't know how he do it.

2. It's possible someone living with you have used the card before you. Just last month I saw this Airtel recharge card on the floor in our house, my brother have just left for work and I thought he must have used it. I picked it and wanted to throw it away, but something told me to try using it. I entered it and behold I got "your recharge of N200 was successful".

3. Finally, someone may have made a mistake and typed the wrong number (being yours), then threw away his/her own card un-used.

I see MTN is mitigating their losses from the multiple cheat codes that have rocked them recently.

So you opened a thread because of a 200 naira recharge card?
Didn't it come to your mind that the seller might have made the mistake of putting a used card together with the unused ones?

Thunder will fire the mod that will put this on FP.

It hasn't been activated, verify if this card bears a serial number, if so call customer care.
