Awesome score you have. I guess mine was the reverse. I had 164 in QA, 140 in Verbal, and 5.0 in AW. Anyways, I got my PhD admits and I am happy I chose a good option out of the lots I had.

So one can apply for Ph.D directly after undergrad studies? How is that possible pls ?

Funding depends on many factors thus, you want to ensure overall, your profile is competitive enough. I would suggest you apply to schools with terminal Masters and no PhD in Economics so that your chances for funding gets much higher.

Talking about schools with terminal masters, Datz wat I researched on nd dis r d skulz ve gotten as at now university of michigan-ann arbor, university of wiaconsin, texas A&M University...

How can I make my profile competitive enough?

Hello house, thanks for the wonderful work you guys are doing on this thread. May God bless you all.

I am currently filling my ds-160 but am currently unemployed. Though am taking some online courses on computer programming, the question is how do i creatively fill up this section in my ds-160?

P.s: I was previously employed. Going for graduate studies in computer science.

Yes you can in the US however, I 1st opted for a Masters before proceeding to PhD. I have friends who went in straight for PhD.

I am not sure about Ann Arbor oooo, which of the Texas A&M? I would suggest you check schools like: University of North Texas, Denton; and Ohio University, Athens. Get the best recommendations you can get from people like: Dr. Adebayo, Dr. Akinlo, Dr. Olomola, Dr. Oladeji (not sure if he has started recommending students though), Dr. Folorunso, etc. I am sure you can convince 3 of those 5 to recommend you (particularly if you took classes from them), write a brief but detailed SOP, and do well on the GRE.

My people I greet all of una. As a brand new poster here, I pay homage to all of you guys. Una too much. This is a most wonderful thread. I must confess that I have followed bits and bits of several former threads and have gotten a lot of valid and helpful info but I can't say I have been an ardent follower. I am however in need of some advise and I feel confident that I will get help here.

After I was rejected admission by some schools earlier in the year, I applied to some other schools which were still accepting admission applications. I am going for Ms Chem Engr and completed my application to Latech Uni in May i.e I sent a hard copy of my transcript. I had removed mind and thought from going for further studies this year and decided that I will pursue with more fervor next year but I received an email yesterday stating that a copy of my passport and bank statement/affidavit of support are required by the ISO to issue the I20 and now everything seems to be tumultuous as I have now become very confused. If you may oblige me and I pray u can spare a moment, please I need clarification on certain things;
1) does a request such as this indicate that I have been offered an admission? (I assume so but I m forced to wonder as it has not been formally communicated to me that I have been offered a admission).
2) Considering the timing (school begins in september), do u imagine that there is a remote chance that I may be able to receive this I20 and sort out visa before September
3) I have a new Usd acct (just opened last week) in Nigeria that I can easily make up to the amount as required and stated in the email I received; do u think I make up this amount in the Usd account and send the statement to them or I should look for a statement of an account from maybe an uncle, that has history and send to them. The former is easier and the latter will take some time and still be harder.

Thanks a lot.

Hey guys, please does anybody know about rent in the DC or MD area? I found a place for 707$ all utilities included except WiFi. Its actually a 3bedrroom/2bath shared apartment. I'm looking out for sth cheaper tho. Any thoughts?

Secondly, how do I get access to CraigList? My IP is blocked. I already sent them an email, yet nothing

As at the time I filled my Ds160, I was not gainfully employed, however, I was volunteering for a government school. I filled the previous job I was doing before the volunteer service. Then I stated during the interview why I volunteered. Government schools were in need of good mathatics teachers and I saw the need to lend a helping hand. In your case, you can fill the job you were doing previously, state also, you have been volunteering in form of charity to teach students on software development -games and the likes - come up with a convincing and believable concept. Remember, your response will evoke other questions, be mentally ready to cater for them if the need arises . If you are taking some online course on programming why not do your masters online?# just kidding # Kindly make sense out of my nonsense. This should give you a guideline on how to fill that part of your DS160 creatively.

Such a thread will actually be a good idea.

What I will say is many companies with good graduate programs in the US and UK who are willing and able to sponsor for work permits tend to fill up a large chunk of their graduate programs from their internship class.

My advice especially for those going for undergraduate courses is to try very hard to secure an internship with such companies during your studies as this makes it easier to secure positions on their graduate programs. Many times you may even be extended offers after the internship t return after your program if you do well.

Now I am not saying getting such internships is easy. It is tough as there is lots of competition not only from US citizens, but other international students from China, India, Europe etc and this is where good grades, attending reputable schools and being informed matter.

Understanding the recruitment timelines is crucial as i see many Nigerians miss this and end up applying too late. Most companies recruit the year before you start i.e. application will start about September 2015, interviews probably jan/feb and offers by March for September 2016 internship or graduate class so understanding this timing is very important.

research research research, and try to mix with people who are better informed than you so you can learn from them. As someone mentioned earlier the first set of people you mix with can influence you either positively or negatively, so be wise.
I personally am not one to insist on only mixing with Nigerians etc as I strongly believe in diversity and being a global citizen. mixing with people from other countries expands your horizon and makes you more enlightened and open minded. Not saying do not talk or mix with Nigerians, but be open minded to mixing with people for who they are not where they are from.

Also note that the hard work starts now not when you want to apply. What I mean is you start researching the companies you want to target immediately you start your program. Sometimes they have events for prospective interns which are very good opportunities to meet people there and also learn more. Take advantage of all this.

Good luck to all you guys. It's hard work but once you are able to break into the system, the sky is the limit.

Sorry for the long sermon smiley.

Rent is generally expensive in the DMV area. But as a student, you should get something cheaper. Try using Tor browser for craigslist, and make sure to rent with a student like you..you don't want stories that touch

Fellow Chemenger ,yes the request means you have been offered admission. 2. You will still be able to meet up with resumption by September if ur visa is sorted out. Just ask for ur I-20 to be sent by courier(it will arrive within 3 to 4days). Pay ur SEVIS and appointment fees then u are good to go. Shalom

And since my passport has always been my form of ID, what other acceptable ID will I use to pick up the stamped passport?

Pls can I register for both GRE and TOEFL by myself online with my mastercard ? Will it not give me any problem? Because agents are askinme for 55k each for GRE and TOEFL, total of 110k, and I am sure its not up to that.
The agent said if I try to register it by myself that I will end up paying twice. Pls is this true ?

GRE is $195 so lets say with exchange rate of 220 at worst its 42,900. Register your card with paypal and use paypal to pay for the GRE.
