funkiebully:Biko, all those mushroom stadia at Fegge, Onitsha north or Agu Oka should be used for secondary school inter-house sports or elementary school children march past. Is it an abomination id we have the type of Stadia at nnamdi Azikiwe Enugu, or Jos, bauchi, kano, calabar or even liberty stadium Ibadan? Notice that i have not mentioned Abuja, Lagos or Uyo, Akwa Ibom.i am just saying FIFA standard not even truly world class like Uyo. I am just saying get something decent that NFA can use for international event once. 4 Likes |

ChimaAdeoye: But the Agu Awka stadium was to b a 45,000 sitting capacity stadium. Ngige started it, But Peter obi abandoned it. This is different from d Awka township stadium around Arthur Eze avenue. I'm only concerned about duplicity of Same project with none completed |

AnambraDota: Sandfilling street, putting electricity poles are indeed government responsibility but in Anambra we have learnt to do self help because the government cannot do it all. It may interest you to know that electricity reached nnewi, Ojoto, Ozubulu,Ichi,Amichi,Oba etc precisely by individual effort like that. I remember my Dad holding electricity meetings in our house and then moving round town to collect everyone's dues and pay the contractor that put the poles and wires from onitsha until it got to nnewi. Boy, that was the days of real Igbomen developing their community in spite of lack of funds! 9 Likes |

What can be done about the harassment Ibos face at the Agbor/Asaba axis I had expected Okorosha to take the matter up with his Northern associates and leaders who dominate Nigerian Customs The question is how come the North with at 10 border states does have this kind of terrible and victimizing policing Is Agbor/Asaba a port or are they boundary towns And most often all these Custom posts along Lagos -Benin- Agbor-Asaba -Onitsha- Owerri are just tolls to extort Ibo businesses Normally those goods are checked at the boundaries and ports where the duties are paid but in a bid to extort Ibo they tag the papers fake which is then un-tagged as soon as tangible sums are parted with Suggestions Please 1 Like |

Reviewing Anambra’s Quest for Self-Sustenance The Anambra State Government recently organized a retreat for its principal officers in Awka with the view to forming a synergy among them for the sustainable economic growth of the state, reports Emeka Osondu, who covered the event It is no longer news that the economic realities in the country are altering the pace of development in all the tiers of government. In fact the indices have changed and fallen below estimation. States and federal budgets are no longer functional as they can no longer fulfill their roles and obligations as a result of financial crunch. The price of crude oil, on which the government had built its hope and depended largely over the years to fulfill its development plans have fallen in the international market, hence the recent nose-dive in the Federation Account. This log-jam in the fiscal system has actually trickled down to the grassroots as many states can no longer pay the wages and salaries of workers under their employ. This anomaly has so far built a frightening economic climate and harsh realities for many families across the country, hence the need for the recent re-planning and review of existing work-frame by the Anambra state government. The Retreat In a two-day retreat he hosted for members of the state Executive Council, members of the state legislative assembly, heads of parastatals and agencies as well as chairman of local government councils, Governor Willie Obiano said he aimed at bringing them together to strategise on how to sustain the state in term of economic viability, transparency and people-oriented governance. The retreat featured presentations by notable economic experts and scholars on the economic blue-print of the Obiano administration and the global economic realities of the day as well as review key areas of the state economy and how they can be enhanced to boost the state in the midst of the dwindling national economy. It could be recalled that Governor Obiano had on assumption of office on March 17, 2014, announced that his government would focus primarily on four cardinal areas of economic development, namely: security, agriculture, commerce and industry and crude oil exploration among others. Many economic analysts interviewed decried the age-long neglect of other sectors of the economy by successive administrations in the country as a result of the oil boom in the mid-1970’s, saying it is the genesis of the persisting problem. They said it was apparently to forestall the widening financial crisis that have melted down economic activities in many states of the nation from affecting Anambra that Obiano had embarked on the workshop, so as to build on the existing successes he had recorded over the past one year in office. It is on record that Anambra had remained one of the exemplary states of the federation that has continued to pay salaries of workers under its employ as and when due, as well as meeting most of its financial obligations at a time that many other states are almost bankrupt and begging for bailout from the federal government. These economic observers therefore, expressed the hope that the retreat embarked upon by the governor would equip government functionaries and policy makers with the necessary skills for a better and prudent use of scarce resources in this season of lack and financial draught as well as prepare them for more effective nation-building. They maintained that it was obviously to ensure the delivery of quality democracy dividends to the grassroots that Obiano, who left the banking industry on a high to take over the reign of leadership in his home state, Anambra, had dragged renowned economists and financial experts to the state capital, Awka, to lead discussions on how to build on the existing structures in the state to ensure a more robust and viable economy. These lead discussants include: CEO of Financial Derivatives Company, Mr. Bismark Rewane; CEO/founder of IT. Pierson Nigeria, Mrs. Elven Shaiyen, and Prof. Pat Utomi of the Lagos Business School, among others. Speaking at the opening of the retreat, Governor Obiano noted that Anambra was the hub of economic activities in the South East and the entire West African sub-region and consequently, any financial tremor in the neighbouring states would affect commercial activities in the state. Changing the Mindset He further explained that, “We are trying to change the mind-set of the civil servants on the direction we should go. I am very happy with the speakers we invited because they are very well known experts whose genius had contributed to the growth in the nation’s economy.” Obiano further declared his intention to create a synergy between some ministries in his state with relevant federal ministries in a manner that would enhance the overall output of governance in Anambra State. He reiterated the commitment of his administration to a secure and friendly Anambra State that would pave way for the realization of the Vision and Mission Statements of the state. In his own presentation emphasised the need for a closer collaboration between the public and private sector to ensure the emergence of more robust economy in Anambra State. The financial analyst argued that under the present economic climate, the states in Nigeria must shrug off the days of financial recklessness and brace up for the brass task of purposeful leadership by creating alternative revenue sources and sealing all leakages in their financial system. He expressed the belief that Anambra State can leverage on its enormous potentials as the largest retail market in West Africa as well as its abundant fertile land and skilled labour force to compete in the emerging markets especially with the recent interest the state had provoked in the investment community. According to him, there is an urgent need for a deeper and more viable market in the state that will stimulate the interest of investors further, pointing out that state governments should always monitor unemployment and inflation as they were key misery index capable of undermining the best laid developmental efforts. He applauded Governor Obiano for heroically rescuing Anambra from the clutches of criminals who had laid the state waste for years but warned that the state must not lose its vigilance in the area of security as it was vital to its very survival. Rewane also observed that the country was plagued by many challenges including insecurity, pipeline rehabilitation, subsidy removal, gaps in fiscal planning, huge domestic and foreign debts profiles, depleting external reserves and high cost of governance. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/reviewing-anambra-s-quest-for-self-sustenance/214962/ 1 Like |

Cuche:Friends of Peter Obi should help appeal to him that it is in the best interest of Anambra that he secretly returned the money to the State. There are so many incriminating documents showing he has been the brain in former President's money laundering team a.k.a economic team My pain is that the money will be found soon enough and will not be reunited with Anambra but with the Federal box. Part of the money stolen has been traced to the election periods and Peter was actively involved in the disbursements For some of us who have access to his Lordship Bishop Ezeobi, should approach him to assist in talking to Peter to act fast for the good of Anambra |
