jl115:

Ill give you a citation when you give me a citation that SAAF only has 9 pilots!

SAAF actually has ONLY 6 pilots, the 9 is just doing you a favour for ego sake.

"By 2013, around half of the SAAF’s front line force of 26 Saab Gripens – 17 single-seat Gripen Cs and nine two-seater Ds – had been placed in storage. An estimated six to 10 were available for flight, but a shortage of pilots meant only around six were capable of being flown on any one day."

Oh ! You agree? The fools on defenceweb that were arguing with me this week said Egypt deos not even have BVR missiles, they think South Africa is better than the whole world. LOL.

The top 10 air forces in Africa are :

1. Egypt.
2. Algeria
3. Morocco
4. Ethiopia
5. Eritrea
6. Sudan
7. Uganda
8. Angola
9. Nigeria
10. South Africa
.

Nigeria without modern fighters is bad. It has only three operational attack fighters.

too bad.

My list.

1. Egypt.
2. Algeria
3. South Africa
4. Ethiopia
5. Morocco
6. Uganda
7. Sudan
8. Angola
9. Eritrea
10. Nigeria

That's a lie. South Africa has nine gripen pilots Instructors

Do you call that half done source a sufficient proof that SAAF has six pilots? Shame, you must be desperate indeed.

APART FROM SIX SAAF GRIPEN PILOTS WHO WERE TRAINED IN SWEDEN. SAAF REVEALED THE FIRST THREE LOCALLY TRAINED GRIPEN PILOTS IN 2010.

AGAUGUST FAILED BIG TIME.

http://www.saairforce.co.za/news-and-events/934/combat-pilots-secrets-out

I quote:

Coincidentally, Mbhokota is one of the six who were trained in Sweden.
Solo flights
On this occasion three pilots, including the first female Gripen pilot, and a navigator conducted their first solo flights.
This brings the total number of trained pilots to nine, with another three to follow next year.

PEOPLE SAAF HAS BEEN TRAINING PILOTS EVERY YEAR. HAWK PILOTS HAVE BEEN GRADUATING TO GRIPEN PLATFORM BUT THE NEWS DONT COVER THAT. HAWKS IS MERELY USED AS A TRAINING PLATFORM FOR GRIPEN.

You still at it after so many citations to the contrary. Your source states nothing about pilots so why the lies.

I know for a fact that there are more then 19 combat ready Gripen pilots with others in reserve who are also used as flight instructors to keep them up to date.

With the approval of the defense review we've seen a few changes already though no new funds have been allocated.

You are just being foolish again with those claims, its the same nonsense that the DA opposition party shadow minister has punted until he had to shut his mouth when the parliamentary oversight committee came to visit two AFB bases and saw for themselves what the state of affairs were.

Whether NAF has 3 or 6 pilots is irrelevant to state the most, because for a airforce with such old useless aircraft you should not be boasting because your airforce is obsolete even by African standards.

By the way explain to me what is meant by combat qualified, I would love to take you here your rants and insults on this issue.

Lastly I see you got your Ass whipped on defenceweb grin

Oh ! defenceweb forum? The place where Nigerian small boy Augustine opened a free education classroom where I educated 10 SAAF pilots who did not know that Egypt, Ethiopia, and tiny Eritrea all have BVR missiles. Your Southie military men thought that since South African air force does not have BVR missiles, then no country in Africa has it.....until Augustine educated your Soweto air force officers free of charge.

I see you haven't changed one bit. You lie so much that you started believing yourself. You couldn't even answer some credible questions on that site and when you were schooled you started with the usual nairaland slants by turning to race.

Tell me have you ever sat foot onto any 4gen fighter.

The problem with you is that you think and believe that a missile makes a good fighter yet you totally lack the expertise and knowledge to know that its the overall systems which dictates an outcome of air to air combat.

You can fire a BVR missile but it depends on the opposing forces radar and EW systems including defensive missiles like IRST and A-Datar which can either fool the missile or destroy it. The other factors you also fail to recordnize is that today Airforces fight under umbrellas of ECW's and ground defense systems like GBADS and CRAM which is data linked and can also affect air combat outcomes. The BVR systems of Ethiopia are all outdated and including the russian R-73 missiles which are getting replaced by R-77's. A Gripen armed with A-Datar and next years Meteors are capable of taking on any current fighter with or without AESA systems.

Meanwhile NAF has less then 3 pilots and non operational fleet of Mig 21's.

SAAF has ONLY 6 Gripen pilots who now fly a paltry 10 to 20 hours a year and thus ZERO combat qualification, this is true, this is serious, Angola will äss räpe the entire nation of South Africa, their Su-30 Flankers will destroy all your G-6 Rhino and other artillery from the air, then Angolan Super Tucanos will massacre SANDF infantry and tanks.

Official word from the SAAF
http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-31821/

18 Aircrew
14 Gripen operational
No Gripen ever placed in storage

Thus, minimum of 14 pilots

And, as I have shown in the 2013/14 Gripen pilots averaged 60 hours per year, more than half the french airforce

No, both sources refer to the same period of time

Your source has been contradicted by the SAAF

Your statement about flight hours has been contradicted by SANDF financial reports (which have been posted here) SAAF pilots average 60 a year

Face it, your source is incorrect - we have official word from the SAAF

You can keep saying the same thing over and over, and I will keep saying the same thing over and over.

And anyway, 6 Gripen pilots is better than 3 F-7 pilots grin grin

First of all the article talks about 2013, not 2014. If I write an article today about the 1969 moon landing, does it mean the
moon landing happened today? 20th of July 2015? In any case the article has been disproved by the SAAF.

Secondly, it said 200 hours for Gripen in the article. You said there were 6 pilots. So how do you get "10 to 20 hours a year" when you divide 200 by 6? You see how you just make sh*t up and ruin this thread? Even the likes of Henry120 ran away from here because of this type of non.sense

I dare you as a man, show us where you got "10 to 20 hours a year" from. Or did you make that up Augustine?
