The Nigeria leader arrived in the US via the Andrews Airfare Base around 4p.m. EST on Sunday and immediately moved into the Blair House guest house of the US President. After checking-in, the President met with members of his entourage, which includes five state governors and members of his All Progressives Congress party. He had dinner with former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, following which he met Lawal Idris, Professor John Baden, Patrick Berry and Ahmad Abubakar before retiring to bed. President Buhari earlier met with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the Oval Office at the US White House, the National security advisor Susan Rice and Secretary of State John Kerry were also in attendance. He will also have an audience with the US Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, to discuss how to improve business relations between both countries. President Buhari will then head to a crucial meeting with the US Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss a bilateral strategy to trace assets looted by members of the previous government of President Goodluck Jonathan. He will be accompanied to that meeting by the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, the Solicitor General of the Nigerian federation and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs. Later in the day, Buhari, accompanied by the Central Bank Governor and the Acting DG of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, will meet with the US Secretary of the Treasury, Jack Lew. To cap the day, Buhari will have a dinner with members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and The Corporate Council on Africa. They are expected to discuss ways of strengthening business relationships between the US business community and Nigeria, and elaborate on efforts to combat security threats. On Tuesday, Buhari will kick-off his day with a meeting with a delegation of the World Health Organization (WHO). He is also schedule to hold a meeting with the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, and attend a luncheon at the state department. He will later have a meeting with the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) accompanied by the Director General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA). Moving from the CIA’s office, Buhari will proceed to a meeting with the US Secretary for Defense and the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. He will then receive classmates from the US War College class of 1980. The Nigeria leader will then hold a meeting with a joint session of the US Senate and House of Representatives committee on Foreign Affairs at the US Capitol. Buhari will then proceed to meet with Nigerian Youths at a Meet & Greet event scheduled to hold at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC, to be followed shortly afterwards at the same venue by a Town Hall meeting with Nigerians in the Diaspora. Before departing the US on Wednesday, President Buhari will have an interactive session at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) at an event to be co-hosted by the Atlantic Council, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the National Democratic Institute, the International Republican Institute and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems. That meeting is scheduled to begin at 10am, and Mr. Buhari and his entourage will depart shortly afterwards. http://saharareporters.com/2015/07/20/buhari%E2%80%99s-packed-schedule-washington-dc-unveiled 2 Likes |
