Research don kill me!

Thanks to bigfrancis21 and others, my school have now requested for my soa and sponsorship letter which I shall remit this week or early next week... however, i stumbled upon this material on my school's website which i believed, could be useful too:

The consular interview is an important step in the process of receiving a visa. Often, the initial impression a consular interviewer receives from you is critical to your success. Reviewing the tips provided below may help you during your consular interview.

Keep your answers concise. Be honest in everything you write on your visa application and say during the interview. Anticipate that the interview will be conducted in English. Do not bring other people to speak on your behalf.

Be able to explain the reasons you want to study in the U.S. and remember that your main reason for coming to the United States is to study, not to work.

If your spouse and children are remaining behind in your home country, be prepared to explain how they will support themselves in your absence. If they are accompanying you to the U.S., what are the financial arrangements?

As a temporary visitor you may be questioned about your intention to return your home country after completing your studies. You should be ready to provide evidence that you do not intend to emigrate to the U.S. and that you intend to return to your home country after completing your studies. Examples of evidence include proof that you or your parents own an apartment or house, a bank account, a voter registration card.

If you are denied the visa, ask the officer for a list of documents he or she would suggest you bring the next time you apply, and try to get the reason you were denied in writing. Maintain a positive attitude! Do not engage the consular officer in an argument.

International students should apply for the visa in their home country, unless circumstances or travel plans make this impossible. If the student applies in a third country, the application may take more time and be reviewed more critically than if it was applied for at home. The U.S. Department of State maintains an authoritative website on the visa application process and should be studied carefully.

Required Documents for Obtaining a Visa

1. Complete visa application form and pay visa fees.
2. Receipt for payment of the I-901 SEVIS fee if applicable.
3. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your proposed date of entry into the U.S.
4. You will need a 2" x 2" photograph.
5. Form I-20 or DS-2019 for the school or program you wish to attend.
6. Financial evidence detailing source and amount of funding.
7. Consular and immigration officers exercise considerable discretion in determining whether financial support exists and is sufficient to cover
your entire period of stay. Prepare documentation that is thorough, consistent, credible and varied.
8. Official academic transcripts, confirmation of enrollment, and proof of English language proficiency may also be requested.
9. Evidence of continuing ties to your home country (i.e. family, career, or property)
10. Visa applicants are presumed to be "intending immigrants." Your visa will be denied unless you satisfy the consular officer that you will return home. Unfortunately, there is no single explanation, document, or letter than can guarantee visa issuance.

Tips for Obtaining a Visa

Apply for the visa in a timely manner. Consult the embassy or consulate where you will apply to see their wait times at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/general/wait-times.html/.
If students are denied the visa, they should ask the visa officer the reason for their denial and then consult with the Assistant Dean of International Studies at Providence College.

Security & Name Checks

Effective November 13, 2001, certain visa applicants became subject to an additional name check clearance procedure before being issued a nonimmigrant visa. The procedure requires consular officers to send the visa applicant's name to be checked against information in various security, law enforcement, and intelligence databases.

Visa applicants affected include (but may not be limited to) males between the ages of 16 and 45 from one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen and students in certain areas of study. Reports indicate that the procedure can take at least 20 business days. Please factor this extra time into your planned visa processing time if you believe you may belong to an affected group.

Hope this helps guys... K'odi cool

Boss,Just for clarification..do you have Gambia PR?

I have residential and work permit but it wasn't asked for. I guess the fact that I had my work ID around my neck helped.

Ok no problem but I will check on that later.

What kind of visa do you use over there?

you don't need a visa to come to the Gambia. Your ECOWAS passport entitles you to gain entry into the country. But once in, you would need to apply for residential and work permit. They take that really serious here.

Lol...don't be offended brother, was just trying to tell how many people he has helped and ask for your advice. The issue of standardized test has been noted.

Thanks! Appreciate

You obviously don't seem to understand what they are trying to tell you. Do you!
Simply follow the steps on this thread, and you'll be okay.
Use an agent and risk getting to a really good school, denial based on fake documentation among others. You Dad might help you take care of admission, but won't help you get a visa or survive schooling six thousand miles away...Take charge!

I'm saying it again "You can lie for Africa". I know when I see a real transcript, but base on reason why we gathered on this thread, I'd just assume yours is a genuine one. But trust me, I don't and I'd never believe this your transcript..

*You even quoted yourself with one of your several monikers, I wish I had screenshoted your initial post yesterday. I don't just see what people gain by deceiving themselves undecided

I asked him a similar question. Gambia makes a lot of sense. 1 dollar to their currency is very low. Less than 40.
when will people stop thinking that low dollar exchange rate = economic prosperity
$1= 1100 Korean won; and the Korean economy is bigger and better than the entire Africa put together.

Not good for a country who imports more than it produces like Nigeria. So the exchange is affecting us badly.

Get the hell out of here. Who told you that I schooled in Nigeria? I only focused on Gambia.

Korean economy is not as good as China. Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou's economy is better than the so-called Korea.

What do you do in Korea if I may ask? Just refrain from quoting me.

You really don't understand English. Someone said he only focused on one country but you're bringing up another country. It shows how crazy you're.

He even asked the kind of visa the guy uses.

Korean economy is also not as good as Japan. So you just have to waffle here.

Good luck to you!

South Korea in recent decades has not debased her GDP, while african countries keep rebasing like GDP was coins scattered all over the floor. Ask yourself this really important question; should the western and eastern bloc shun Nigeria for 1 year, how much will we survive?. the try strength of any economy is in political might and self sufficiency.
