Restart the system and see if the problem goes away. If the problem persists, boot the PC from a Windows installation media and choose - Repair your computer. Follow the prompts to perform Startup Repair.

Hello all,

Nice of you to help people out on simple PC issues.

My laptop (HP windows 7) has been behaving funny since last week, so this morning I did a system recovery (not knowing that it will return the laptop to factory settings.

So I lost all my files when the laptop finished the recovery.

It came pre-installed with d system. What about the issue of usb cord not detecting on d system when connected. It only charges it
justi4jesu:

You bluetooth driver may not be compatible with windows 8.1, did you install the windows 8.1 yourself or it came with the System pre-installed.
Step 1:
→ Go to RUN (Windows Logo + R) and type “services.msc” and Enter.
Step 2:
→ Now find “Bluetooth Support Service” and double click on it.
Step 3:
→ In General Tab change startup type Manual to Automatic.
Step 4:
→ Now click on Log On Tab and mark on “This Account” and type your account name or browse to find your account name.
Step 5:
→ Now remove both hidden password and restart your PC.
Step 6:
→ Now Re install your Bluetooth drivers.

Try changing your Operating System to Windows 7. The drivers may be suitable for that OS alone or the person that installed the windows 8.1 didn't install the appropriate usb drivers for it.

First, Just Insert the Windows installation CD that was included with the HP laptop into the HP laptop's optical drive. If you did not receive a Windows installation disc with the laptop, or no longer have the CD, purchase one that matches the Windows sticker located either on the bottom of the laptop or inside the battery compartment. For example, if the Windows sticker on your laptop is for Windows 7 Home Premium, you must purchase a Windows 7 Home Premium disc if you plan to reinstall the operating system after formatting.

Secondly, Click Start, then click the arrow next to "Shut Down." Select "Restart" from the menu that appears.

Thirdly, Press the button to enter the boot screen when prompted. The exact button depends on which HP model laptop you own. For example, the boot screen may read "Press ESC to enter boot menu." When the boot menu appears, use the arrow keys to highlight "CD/DVD Drive," then press "Enter." If you do not press the indicated key quickly enough and the computer proceeds to boot up Windows, shut down the laptop and start again.

Follow the on-screen prompts that appear once the Windows installation disc loads. After accepting the license agreement, click "Custom (advanced)." Select your hard drive's main partition, then click "Format." Wait for the hard drive to be formatted.

Lastly, Click "Next" after the drive has been formatted if you want to install a fresh copy of Windows. Otherwise, remove the installation disc, then press and hold the "Power" button to shut down the laptop.

Note: Make sure your laptop is plugged to a power supply before you commence re-installation.

Thanks bro but I have some

You said if I want to reinstall windows after formatting .... Does it mean I can format the laptop without reinstalling new windows 7? The reason why I even want to format the laptop is because it is hanging and I don't like it that way.

I think my system is having windows 7 home premium but I went to market yesterday and I bought windows 7 ultimate though I never know it has something to do with that. Now, since what I want is to format the system so that whatsoever that is causing the hanging would be removed. So, can I use the windows 7 ultimate dvd to archive that without messing up the follow-come windows 7 home premium?

Thanks once more for your time

Good morning Brainies...

My HP laptop is almost dying (slow, hanging, virus laden and all sorts). and so I decided to do the following:
1. Want to Reinstall Window7 on it via USB drive or Hard drive (for there is no CD drive on the laptop).
2. Want to increase the RAM, its 1.5g.
3. Want to install a good antivirus for the safety of the system.
4. Want to defragment the system ....if need be.
5. And the system shows blue screen too, don't even know what that means and how to solve it.

Please guys, this is where I need help, I really don't know how to go about all these, I need step by step tutorials on how to fix it please.... thanks in anticipation.

I already explained how to reinstall windows on your system with steps. Check few posts above you. Instead of CD drive, in your case you can insert your USB drive.

Increasing the RAM of a system is not the remedy for every slow system. Before increasing your RAM , first you need to know the kind of RAM that is compatible with your motherboard and how much memory you are allowed to add because your BIOS and motherboard constrain the amount of RAM that you can add to your laptop. You should know all these before proceeding to DIY.

You cann download Norton online and then buy the license key from Ebay, don't use free antivirus if you like your system.

Click the Start button. Select All Programs, then Accessories. Choose System Tools, and then select Disk Defragmenter. You'll probably be prompted to put in your administrator password. Then hit Defragment Now. Also note that to defrag takes hours sometimes more than 12hours, so i will advice you to do it at night before sleeping.

Undo recent changes using system restore or use start up repair when the blue screen appears again.

You can't format a system without reinstalling a new OS or what do you intend to use if you don't reinstall windows. Yes you can use the new windows Ultimate you bought to reinstall it.

Get a Windows installation DVD and insert it into your computer's DVD Drive. Power cycle the PC and when you see a message on the screen prompting you to "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", simply press any key on the keyboard.

In the Windows setup dialog that appears, select your preferred language and keyboard settings and click Next. In the next window that appears, in the lower left corner, click Repair your computer. Windows will guide you through the rest of the process to perform a start-up repair.
