UI distances self from controversial 250 JAMB cut-
off mark.
As controversy continued to trail the alleged
attempts by authorities of the University of Lagos,
UNILAG, Akoka, and the Joint Admissions
Matriculation Board (JAMB), to change the official
cut-off mark of JAMB from 180 to 250, authorities
of the University of Ibadan (UI), have distanced the
university from the controversial cut-off mark.
candidates protesting at UNILAG
On Wednesday, applicants billed to participate in
UNILAG’s 2015/2016 post-Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (post-UTME), protested
the sudden change of the school’s cut-off mark
from 200 to 250, saying that they were shocked to
learn of the change at the point of registering for the
screening test billed to hold on August 12 and 13.
Other Federal universities referred to as most
sought after schools said to also have increased
their JAMB cut-off mark from 200 to 250 were the
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife, Osun State,
University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State, University of
Illorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, and University of
Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Enugu State.
But in a sharp reaction, Vice Chancellor, UI,
Professor Isaac Adewole, told Vanguard that “Our
JAMB cut-off point to qualify candidates for post-
UTME in University of Ibadan is still 200. We will
use that in conjunction with the post-UTME scores
of candidates to give them admission into our
school.”
