But what did you guys expect? He will come in, wave a magic Wand and Nigeria will be better than America? Time and time again, he has shown be is tribalistic. Go through his record. I didn't vote for him but I want him to Excell in one and one thing only, anti - corruption. GEJ allowed the country to slide into this cesspool we are in, I want him to bring us back. If he succeeds in other aspects, I would be surprised.
I would not bother myself comparing him to GEJ at the moment. Will give him 4 years then I start and when I do, barcanista will be child's play compared to what I will do.
I guess we are on the same page afterall

how old were you in 1999? Ask your father, he will tell you that refineries were working during Abacha's regime.

Your father lied to you. Ask him why there was so much adulterated imported fuel causing explosion all over Nigeria.

KoloOyinbo:

Well I spend a LOT of time in Naija (Lagos, Abuja, Bonny, Warri, Port Harcourt and recently Ibadan) and I have been doing so for 15 years.

If you understand how countries and economies work you will ALREADY have seem some improvements (quicker than anyone would reasonably expect). Only a total naïve fool would expect very much in the first year of any administration in any country. The effects of 16 years or incompetence will still be felt for some time. Internationally the business confidence in Nigeria is rising due to the measures taken against corruption and this in itself will stimulate the economy. Don't worry too much about the exchange rate of the Naira. When exchange rates weaken (more naira to the dollar/pound) it makes you cheaper and stimulates outside organisations to spend money IN Naija. When it strengthens then you can but foreign good easier. Each has advantages and disadvantages. You have to balance them.

The current government seems to be doing better at the moment and we hope it will keep doing so. There is no doubt in the eyes of the world and educated Nigerian that the last few administrations were totally useless and ensured that Naija developed MUCH more slowly than it should. There will of course always be individual instances of something being better or worse but we must take the overall picture.

And of course if APC fail to deliver the expectations after 4 years then you have a chance to replace them with PDPD again (God help RIVERS where the desperation of those corrupt officials was evident to the world) or very possibly with a new alliance or party. In the international community when we think of PDP we sadly think of Orobebe's infantile outburst on international TV (which Jega handled magnificently). PDP MUST shake that image (and fools like Orobebe) if they are to have any chance of being a credible opposition and positioning themselves for any future viable challenge. The damage that man did PDP was incalculable!

Also (like these forums) the elections must be run on POLICY rather than the stupid mudslinging. Even here in this thread and on Nairaland in general there is little argument over rational policy. The debates are simply stating (without support) this is working or this is not. APD/PDP are good/bad useless. Each group simply states their position unsupported, with very few engaging in objective and rational debate.

You have been independent for over 60 years now but democracy has not quite matured yet!

Your thoughts for the nation are same as mine and aimed at good but truth be said, i haven't seen clearly these developments in terms of corruption, the president has hordes of them around him i think the world would be 100% much more in support than it is now if these people were to be brought to book even if it means taking them to court arresting them and recovering every kobo. But he's not doing it he should extend it to 1999 at least and ensure that every corrupt public official is looked into from then till date. He would have recovered so much if he does that selective probe would only stir up bad blood,he is working with advicers and permanent secretaries. Who are they?T he appointments so far, seem to be shrouded in secrecy and it always and most often lands on a certain part of the country. So you see there's still so much to doubt about his moves, generally those outside would not see up to half of what we've seen here..

I was charged N225 by GTB (July 24th 2015) . . . which bank was N208 this morning?

Well, you could be correct but Amazon conversion told me 208 with the corresponding naira equivalent. GTB hasn't sent me the naira alert yet. I have always used the dollar option and this is my first time using the naira option. Will wait for the deduction.

Using Chinese made phones and typing on Indian made laptop is insanity while hating on imports. Effect of ban is that prices of goods have gone up and inflation is out of whack. I'n practical English, u are poorer than a yr ago cod ur N1000 is now worth N800 today!!

If true, then thanks be to God.

And let it reflect on the wellbeing of the masses.

I share your sentiment.
My only concern is that fuel queue still persists. The government should find a way to make the queues disappear. We can't wait forever for that one.

What I see is a man carefully laying his plans and refusing to be rushed into rash decisions. He will move, I suspect decisively, when the appropriate time comes.

In either case time will tell. The key thing is that Nigerians now know the government (APC or PDP or whatever) works for THEM! And if the administration fails to deliver they will be booted out as is right and proper at the next election!

Did you even read the article it said the devaluation was caused by the fuel scarcity that Jonathan left behind. Furthermore it was also caused by the effects of the elections, of which GEJ was still the president as of that time.
Re: Buhari’s Corruption Watch Begins To Yield Results by prof12(m): 3:29pm On Jul 25, 2015
All the akpotis that are busy making noise about Buhari and his APC are just pack of disappointment to this nation.
The maintenance wares must have been there before baba got into office, but because of Jonathan's greed and corrupt agendas, he couldn't make the refineries to come to life during his tenure - what a pity.
It is the fear of the personality of the president that makes all offices concerned to start fixing the refineries and it is said to be yielding results and some dump heads are busy advertising their hate for Buhari's government
Said baba carry go.
