Not what the UN says

Who owns these territories where illegal gold mining goes unchecked?

Remember, oil is going down while gold is on the rise

Nigeria lost $50bn (N8tn) in the last two years to neighbouring countries as a result of illegal mining and exportation of unprocessed gold.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Linus Awute, said this on Wednesday during an interview on the sidelines of the Nigerian-Brazil Investment Forum in Abuja.

He described the loss as monumental, adding that the activities of illegal gold miners were far beyond control.

You mean there is no need for Military intervention in those territories?

It is normal to get worked-up over depreciating commodity like Oil while we waste Goldmines worth trillions.

Are those so-called illegal miners ever going to be held accountable any day or will Nigeria always bear the cost of lead poisoning resulting from the process of stealing the same gold?

[s]Guy, if u meant SS and SE, kindly remove d SS. The people of SS are peace loving and good Nigerians. Since after d election, dey have been sincerely hoping and praying for d govt of Buhari. It is only d SE that has been crying wolf when there is none. The SE are wise, they are instigating d SS militants to call for war, thereby turning d SS to a war zone while their own land remain peaceful and intact. This is wickedness and evil.

I m Urhobo and lives in Warri(d base of Tompolo) and I can authoritatively tell u dat my Ijaw neighbours are not happy with GEJ. GEJ failed and there is nothing to show for his over five year destruction. GEJ only succeeded in turning few militants like Tompolo, Asari etc E K Clark and his Igbo ass lickers to billionnaires. How does this affect d lives of d average Niger Deltans. Jonathan indeed took imputinity to a new high level in Nigeria.

Tompolo is a noise maker and can do nothing. The reign of Jonathan made Tompolo a multi billionnaire. Tompolo would not be so naïve to loose his investments in a twinkle of an eye by going to d creeks to cause trouble. Take his threat with a pinch of d salt and ignore him.[/s]

Who do we blame for turning a blind eye to that?

I have got 2 parcels of land, one fully mechanised for agriculture, the other left barren. I have got crop thieves on both of them, common sense know where I will attack first.

MEND, in an online statement by its Spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, dissociated itself from Tompolo and his meeting.

It said the gathering was to react on behalf of oil thieves and corrupt officials of the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

It affirmed its support for President Muhammadu Buhari and “ his government’s courage to probe the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, which should also include the office of the former President, the ex-First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, and the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme.”

So we have sensible and broadminded Militants. May God bless them. It shows that they went through school and school went through them.

The blame will go to whoever wants to use force to take peoples resources without dialogue and adequate compensation.

Peace is sweeter than honey and calmness more savoury than chicken pepper soap.

Stop Criminalising legitimate agitation to give way or "better put" a reason for massacre.

Shortly before the meeting was called off yesterday,Tompolo issued a statement in Warri to allay fears that it was s meant to restart war in the region.

He said contrary to the perception in some quarters, the meeting was aimed at deepening the prevailing peace in the area.

“Calling off today’s meeting can also be an option if need be, in order to strengthen our belief in a peaceful Niger Delta.

“I am compelled to clarify issues as they relate to the meeting of the leadership of ex-agitators under the platform of MEND and other organisations summoned at my instance.

He said the meeting was to douse tension generated by delay in the payment of the monthly stipend to former militants and their foot soldiers by the Federal Government.

He said:”While some of us understand to an extent, the apparent delay in the continued payment of the monthly stipend to the ex-agitators in view of the seeming scrutiny of government agencies, including the Amnesty Office by the current administration, same cannot be said of the majority of beneficiaries of the Amnesty programme.

Are the illegal gold miners carrying arms? No

They are not because the government hasn't force them to do so.

Wait until then to see if they will.

I read and understood everything but this is the first time I read of MEND coming out fully to support the probe of Jonathan administration. They're even going further to suggest the probing of Patience Jonathan.

This is the where I'm expecting opposition from so understandably I'm pleasantly surprise.

The terrorists are receiving sense. This just goes to prove the constant antagonism of the opposition on NL is simply a face-saving measure after their humiliating defeat at the polls. Even the armed wing of the TANoids recognize the prematurity of judging PMB's administration.

I said it yesterday. Tompolo can't go to war, he is smarter than that.

fulanimafia:
Tompolo will not go to war.

The simple reason is that he himself knows there are better ways to address grievances in this age, especially in face of a superior force.

Only childish reasoning would produce the imagination that creek militants can sustain a battle with Nigeria's armed forces, where over 60% of naval and half of the air-force still remain un-deployed, in addition to the ground and amphibious forces of the NA.

But that is not the way forward, let all grievances be heard and appeasements/concessions be made.

The MEND Federal Government knows is the one lead by Government Tompolo and not the waywards that got infuriated because Jonathan allowed their mentor Henry Okah to face justice in South Africa.

Your so-called MEND has always been anti-GEJ since he became President hence nothing new with their statement. They even adopted Buhari during the campaign.

Make no mistake, Buhari sent Tompolo to explain certain things to them (the ex-agitators) to douse tension resulting from their unpaid benefits.
