zeezahbee: Thank you for this. A friend of mine recently needed to rent an apartment in DC last month and needed someone with a credit history to co-sign for him because they wouldn't rent out the apartment to him because he has no credit history. But co-signing is risky because any month he doesn't pay his rent, it is me they would hold responsible even though I am not living there in the apartment. I could not accept it. He then realized the need for his own credit history. It is important everybody stands on their own. Now he has applied for his own credit card to start building his credit history. 1 Like |

zeezahbee: credit history falls in four categories good, zero, bad or fair. you have a good inflow sweet! like i said a verifiable paid job weda incoming or the one u pay out are key in securing a facility. also note that u have the right to ask what bench mark is the average to access certain facilities. you may look good on paper to urself per inflow but does it meet their basic average inflow/outflow to qualify always ask questions and seek alternatives 1 Like |

kobe79: Yes. Did you ever live in the US at all? I am beginning to doubt you because you should not be asking this if you claimed you stepped foot in this country. Yes, an international student needs a credit card to start building their credit history especially if they plan to remain behind in the country. I said this before. Also, even while going to school, some even use their credit cards to pay some of their tuition and pay the money back so they don't fall out of status. One of our respected members on this forum studying in the US recently applied and was approved for a loan of $3,500 to pay his school fees because he has a good credit history, despite being an international student. I won't mention his name, and he started using a credit card since September last year. The loan would not have been possible had he not had a credit history because the bank pulled his credit report right there in his front and saw his good score and history of paying on time before approving it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

A lot of drama is going on here. Bigfrancis is now sounding like a politician. Francis, are you a Republican or Democrat? |

kobe79: A high paying job is NEVER an alternative to a credit history. Do you even know how many years it takes to work and get promoted to such high-income level? 10 years maybe? 15 years? How many people are in that high-income bracket in the US? How many? So you're 'advising' her not to have a credit history and rather wait till 10 years from now when she 'gets' promoted to high-income level to be able to buy a house or car? When you could get to that level and ease of obtaining loans in a bank in under 1 year or 2 with a credit card and credit history and buy a home right away and start paying off the mortgage right away and probably be half-way through the mortgage payment in 10 years? Do you realize how inconsiderate you are sounding right now? All these simply because you are scared of being financially irresponsible with a credit card? 2 Likes |

amanze15: Yea right. You need to go out of your way to get a job in this country. Jobs can be competitive and tough to get. Don't just sit at home, apply online and wait for the job to come to you. Everybody else is applying online and online job applications can be quite numerous and inundating to the employer. You need to go out there and grab the job that you need. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by bigfrancis21: 2:26pm On Jul 28, 2015 |
DeeTus: Not really. They differ based on their core beliefs. Republicans are more conservative and want to see the US remain the way it was 50 years ago, democrats are more liberal and open to change. Both are complements and opposites anyway. 1 Like |

HoneyBronzed: I currently live close to UMD, few minutes away from Greenbelt metro station and the school bus runs in front of my house, and also regular metro buses. I am very mobile and can get to anywhere I want to go. $550 a month all utilities included is very realizable. Room in a house is usually cheaper than apartments. I currently pay $420 per month where I stay and utilities per month don't exceed $100 and ranges from as low as $60 per month during summer like this (i.e. $480 in total per month) when the heater is not being used (i.e. less gas bills) to its maximum of $100 in winter (i.e. $520 per month) when the heaters are being used. I haven't even spent up to $550 per month in rent and utilities since I started living here. We even have a room in our 5-bedroom house that will be available in September. But I think that the outgoing roommate has found someone already. You can look on craigslist. You will find very good deals there. That's where I found my own house. If you are going to be studying at UMD, I strongly recommend that you live in College park, Hyattsville or Greenbelt, for these are the areas surrounding UMD and also where students live mostly. Silver Spring is quite a distance from UMD and I used to stay there last year with my Aunt, and it took me 1 hour and half just to get to school and another 1 hour and half to go back home. |

SantaClause: Yes, you can get a used car at that amount without a credit history if you have the money to pay upfront. $2000 to $3000 is what some people can afford to pay for a used car. You can find good car deals on craigslist or at car auctions. 1 Like |
