africaken: Don't hold your breath, you'd probably pass out. My opinion, I do not think Nigeria would be getting any Sukhois. I think it's highly unlikely, except for the Frogfoot, it probably won't happen. Although the SU-30 meets all NAF's strategic requirements, it's high maintenance cost presents it's own problem. The most likely option for Nigeria is the JF-17 thunder in terms of cost, maintenance and operational availability. 1 Like |

For our president, if you are incharge of his security then you have a very bad job. The guy wakes up and decides he doesn't want a convoy today, so you always have to be ready to accommodate and provide for his safety. A police officer once stopped one car to pave way for the presidents motorcade which was to pass through that route, only to find that that car is it, the president opened the window and was like, its me let us pass---- http://nairobiwire.com/2014/02/track-officer-stops-unmarked-car-find-president.html 1.When not with his wife, he likes to sit on the passenger side. 2. He also likes to stand from his car to address people. 3.,4. But sometime threats level rises and $hit gets serious and he goes fully amoured on us When the deputy president became president for 72 Hours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pux4KQkDRTc 1 Like

Patchesagain:With government support more can be produced, remember there was no production for the helicopter in the first place. But one will be needed to produce standardised aircraft. Unless we see an increase in most African countries I don't see them acquiring. |

africaken:FireForce kind of tacics? Attack aircraft or helicopters provide cover for the men repelling or jumping(paras) from the utility aircraft. In fact such tactics are used somewhere on the continent with great success. Also looked at the tactics the FIB used against M23. You'll see a certain influence. Stealth is not dead. Special forces still conduct infiltration with great stealth. |

The Nigerian Air force has unveiled unmanned bomb detector and a Light Surveillance Aircraft developed by the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, north-west Nigeria. The development is part of the force’s contribution to the fight against insurgency in the troubled north-eastern region. Commandant of the AFIT, Air Vice Marshal Toni Adokwe, introduced the device at a gathering ahead of the institute’s 44th Convocation Ceremony coming up on Friday. The Commandant demonstrated how the device could dictate and pick up Impoverished Explosive Device to safer locations for disposal. The device has a frequency jammer to distort GSM signals and also has a time run of four hours. He said it was produced by students of the Armament Engineering Department in 2012 and was later modified to a higher level called Unmanned Ground Vehicle type two. Adokwe affirmed that with effective innovative approach to technology, Nigeria would be able to tackle the current security challenge in the North-east. He emphasised that the growing wave of bombings by the Boko Haram sect required more researches and innovations of modern equipment and technologies to tackle the challenge. The Commandant further explained that the institute had equally commenced research into the development of a Light Surveillance Aircraft that would be in conformity with the climatic temperature of Nigeria and the West African sub-region. Since inception, the AFIT has graduated about 5,000 persons, including personnel of the Nigerian Army, Air force, Navy and civilians, as well as foreign students from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Benin, Zimbabwe, Niger, Ghana and Sierra Leone. It is structured into three schools which are the School of Air Engineering, School of Ground Engineering and Management Studies, as well as the School of Postgraduate Studies, which coordinates the various postgraduate programmes in the other schools. http://www.channelstv.com/2015/07/28/air-force-modifies-unmanned-bomb-detector/unmanned-bomb-detector/

This journo is telling the world that the SF commander is a major and his deputy a lieutenant colonel ...its sad |

patches689: The JF-17 cost between 25 -30 million. It is also designed to be a low cost(operationally) fighter. In terms of availability, actual numbers in service would determine how available the fighters would be. |

Henry120: I am just saying, we have no idea what its operational and maintenance costs are Since its a Chinese design using Russian engines - then by reputation it is neither cheap nor reliable |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 12:56pm On Jul 29, 2015 |
Patchesagain: I hope you know the new chinese WS-17 engine for the JF-17 provides greater thrust than the RD-93, the RD-93 which did the vertical takeoff in paris? Again, it is designed as a low cost fighter in broad terms. This means, it is likely going to have low operational cost. 1 Like |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Patchesagain: 2:04pm On Jul 29, 2015 |
Henry120: Firstly, that was not a vertical take-off in Paris Secondly, Pakistani JF-17 is still going to be useing the RD-93, only Chinese JF-17's will be using the WS-17 Russians and Chinese have claimed "low cost" many times, but the fact of the matter is that they have an international reputaion for being unreliable and maintenance intensive designes Anyway, this is moot and a I dont actually give a sh1t about the JF-17... what I was simply pointing out is that with no accessible data on the topic, it is disingenuous to say the JF-17 has better maintenance, cost (operational) or availability than anything else 1 Like |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 8:39pm On Jul 29, 2015 |
Patchesagain: First off, except you were blind, it was pretty obvious that the fighter jet performed that maneuver in Paris. Pakistani JF-17 would have the option of using the RD-93 and WS-13( 17 for the JF-17). The west has always made spurious claims about their systems, especially Fighter Jets/air crafts, However with the high rate of crash with overpriced western planes, it is clear that those claims have been outright P.R lies. It is basic common sense, the JF-17 is a low cost fighter, one doesn't need to be a nuclear physicist to discern that both in purchase/operational/maintenance cost, it would be significantly lower than other 4-Gen Fighter jets. |

Henry120: Henry 1. No, that is literally not a vertical take-off 2. Pakistani's themselves said in Paris that they are content with the RD-93, and in anycase, multiple sources list the WS-13 as nothing but a licence built RD-93 with minor modifications 3. Lol, 6 Russian jets have crashed in a month including their latest fighter and, again, Russian/Chinese engines are notorious for being maintenance intensive and having a short service life. This will be more of a problem considering that the JF-17 is underpowered and needs to run at 100% to complete the most basic maneuvers. 4. Its not common sense, it is a claim. Until information is available, it is best not to speculate Dude, IDK what your obsession with the JF-17 is, and IDK why you have such a problem with blatantly superior Western Jets and I dont really care (Because its subjective) all I said, and all I really care about saying, is that it is best not to make disingenuous claims regarding things we have no facts about 1 Like |
