And the winner of round 1 is.... Bukola Saraki. He even got a vote of confidence yesterday. And on the surface all seems well.

It is no longer a well guarded secret: the Atiku Saraki ticket. Plus the possible return to PDP by both men to create a formidable opposition. For the moment, Mr Bukola is on a high. He is condemning corruption in NNPC and having meetings with FIRS on internal revenue generation. He is closely associating the with anti corruption mantra which in recent times seems to the the way to the heart of Nigerians. Note that even the ever antagonistic PDP have done a Volta face and are now in support of the anti corruption drive albeit selectively.

Round 2: No one seems to be hitting Mr Bukola directly anymore. The House of Representatives seems to be Buhari s new found love and he has brokered a peace deal there, leaving Mr Saraki to enjoy his Moments with his PDP deputy president and first time minority leader. Choose your battles wisely.

Round two has however taken a spectator down. Mrs Saraki is being pursued by Efcc. Believe it or not, something must stick. And if she doesn't go to jail, she must accept a plea bargain. Now. Who will vote for a Vp or president whose wife has been convicted of corruption. Indeed how will Mr Saraki scream No to corruption in the hallowed Chambers when his wife is an admitted scion of such?

As for Mr Atiku, Halliburton is back. And it seems it is requirement by the US govt for a peaceful relations. So it isn't really Mr Buhari s witch hunting. It's the US requiring closure. Just as some persons in the PDP seem to have claimed responsibility for Mrs Saraki s travails.

With the publicity involved, so many know the facts of this fight. And notice that Mr Saraki is not being persecuted. So there is no plausible reason to decamp to the PDP. And it is unlikely he will be given the luxury. He will have to do so entirely on his own showing Nigerians he is super ambitious and making Mr Atiku look like a saint.

So it's no retreat for him. For Mr Atiku, he has a track record. Hence no one will really be surprised. As it stands the joke is on Mr Saraki. He is losing this round. And he is yet to know it.
