Very true my friend. But someone had to do it. We probably need over 2000% capacity increase to even scratch the surface of psychiatric cases in 9ja. We need far more professionals, not less.

U go fear their actions. Reminds me of a drama that happened d day I went to motherless babies house to help them out with some chores. I was told to bath about a 15yrs old psychiatric boy, I became pensive. After d drama of removing his cloth, to bath him became a problem ooo. Each time I tried scrubbing him with sponge, I end up getting hugs $ blows on me. Alas when we finished the drama of bathing him, I found out we spent more time than necessary $ I myself ended up with mu body soaked with water. I fear that day say I no go near them again if capable hands no dey near oooo

This is an amazingly shocking discovery, i have been to at least 2 psychiatric hospitals on a visit and i imagined the threat and danger inherent in this care giver career. The workers are sometime threatened by the patients, and like the report pointed out, there are inadequate support staff to help when violence broke out.
Sometimes the hunter became hunted and the staff resort to using brutal application to enforce therapy on the patients, its really agonizing.

Guy, Nigerians are wicked to themselves. We do not act with our consciences. That is why everything is decaying.

My heart goes out to staff who had been traumatized. Yes some psych pts van be so dangerous. In fact in Australia multiple times the police were called into the ward to assist us despite the adequate security guards who had been trained. Yes the entire hospital needs to be security cautious and redesigned. Everyone needs training and regular retraining in risk mx and manual handling of pts. There is need for alarm systems, safe places to put pts like secure wards, seclusion rooms and enough security guards. Also when the alarm goes, all clinical staff who are available should rush to the emergency area to assist and support colleagues. Adequate and effective meds are necessary. Liaison with police for assistance in case of very dangerous pts is also important. There should be a police-liaison officer to link up the hosp with the police.

Instead of paying inadequate hazard allowances which is never saved by recipients, hazard care funding should be at federal level such that affected traumatized staff should get the best care to any level including overseas and private Tx if necessary, just like medical defense insurance.

But the key question is why is the system failing to address risk management issues in this hospital in particular?
