The Nigerian Air force has unveiled unmanned bomb detector and a Light Surveillance Aircraft developed by the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, north-west Nigeria. The development is part of the force’s contribution to the fight against insurgency in the troubled north-eastern region. Commandant of the AFIT, Air Vice Marshal Toni Adokwe, introduced the device at a gathering ahead of the institute’s 44th Convocation Ceremony coming up on Friday. The Commandant demonstrated how the device could dictate and pick up Impoverished Explosive Device to safer locations for disposal. The device has a frequency jammer to distort GSM signals and also has a time run of four hours. He said it was produced by students of the Armament Engineering Department in 2012 and was later modified to a higher level called Unmanned Ground Vehicle type two. Adokwe affirmed that with effective innovative approach to technology, Nigeria would be able to tackle the current security challenge in the North-east. He emphasised that the growing wave of bombings by the Boko Haram sect required more researches and innovations of modern equipment and technologies to tackle the challenge. The Commandant further explained that the institute had equally commenced research into the development of a Light Surveillance Aircraft that would be in conformity with the climatic temperature of Nigeria and the West African sub-region. Since inception, the AFIT has graduated about 5,000 persons, including personnel of the Nigerian Army, Air force, Navy and civilians, as well as foreign students from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Benin, Zimbabwe, Niger, Ghana and Sierra Leone. It is structured into three schools which are the School of Air Engineering, School of Ground Engineering and Management Studies, as well as the School of Postgraduate Studies, which coordinates the various postgraduate programmes in the other schools. http://www.channelstv.com/2015/07/28/air-force-modifies-unmanned-bomb-detector/unmanned-bomb-detector/ 1 Like

patches689: Nigerian military says Boko Haram holds no land in Nigeria today, can you name the city? The state governors gave no names of the towns....ghost towns in dreamland ? CLAIMS OF BOKO-HARAM HOLDING TERRITORY A RUSE BY POLITICIANS TO ATTRACT FUNDING “Military sources who spoke to THISDAY yesterday dismissed the claims that were made during the National Economic Council meeting held in Abuja on Thursday as “alarmist and a political gimmick for patronage”. “They noted that politicians were trying to mislead members of the public by falsely claiming that five LGAs are under the control of the terrorists.” “One of the senior officers clarified that the prevailing situation on ground, saying, “in some towns, Boko Haram have some presence and launch guerrilla attacks from time to time, which is different from holding a town.” He added: “I don’t know where they get such LGAs from. I mean they should have named the local governments and let us verify, if they are sure of their claims. That Boko Haram makes a hit and run attacks in one or two towns does not in any way translate to holding any ground. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/military-silent-on-captured-local-govts-in-yobe-borno/215573/ #DEMOLISHED . |

agaugust:if Chad, Cameroon and Niger had done their jobs boko haram should have been completely wiped out by now, but instead all they did was mislead the international community all day long. Stealing glory and trying to bring down Nigerias image. All their purported 'liberated' areas are being re-liberated by the Nigerian troops. Now they are ripping the fruit of their labour. But what pains me more is that the international community always take the 'anti-Nigerian stance and quickly swallow any bad news directed at Nigeria. It's like there is a conspiracy out there. Chad saw it and fueled it thinking that they were tarnishing Nigerias image. |

agaugust: 1. Impying BH does not train and operate mainly in the bush 1a. Implying BH did not spend its formative years operating in isolated rural areas 1b. Implying Northern Nigeria is heavily urbanized 2. Implying desert Iraq is the same as Arid Northern Nigeria 3. Implying BH is an urban insurgency 4. IMPLYING THAT THE MAIN FOCUS OF FIGHTING HAS NOT BEEN THE SAMBISA FOREST SINCE DAY ONE Face it, the insurgency moved into the cities because you lack the feild craft, equipment, command and control and doctrine to effectively combat the insurgency in its formative days. Our mercenaries trained you how to fight semi-conventionally against BH, now let us teach you how to operate in the bush

For the dull southes The Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday in Abuja honoured Dr Victor Olalusi who scored 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow (RNRMU) in 2013, arguably the first in the world. Olalusi, who was the best graduating student in the whole Russian Federation in 2013, studied in RNRMU under the Russia-Nigeria Bilateral Education Agreement. Speaking at the event, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry said a lot of Nigerian students were brilliant but Olalusi was a genius. He said Olalusi had become an ambassador not only to the ministry but to Nigeria and Russia. “We have to search the Guinness Book of Records for anybody who has achieved 5.0 in a university. It is curious and strange that all those that evaluated his performance could not find reason to reduce a point from him. “You should be the ambassador of the Federal Scholarship Board, Ministry of Education, Nigeria and the Russian Federation. “I look forward to the day you will stand before the President to receive your honour. We have recommendations to that effect, ’’ Nwaobiala said. He then urged Olalusi to continue to be a role model to young Nigerians and also called on him to explore opportunities in post graduate research. In her speech, Mrs Ifeoma Agunwa, the Director, Federal Scholarship Board, said Olalusi made 5.0 GPA in all the courses he took in the seven years he studied Medicine in Russia. She said “Olalusi never had a 4.99 GPA. Even in the Russian language class, he did not fall below 5.0.” In her citation on Olalusi, Agunwa said he ranked as one of the best students in the faculty which handed him a place in RNRMU’s Hall of fame for academic excellence. She said that Olalusi had registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and had the compulsory one-year housemanship training at State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. According to her, he is presently going through the compulsory National Youth Service scheme in Rivers. Mr Artem Romanov, who represented the Russian Embassy, said that Olalusi’s feat was very significant for everybody in Russia. Romanov said “Nigeria is blessed with abundant human potential which is officially acknowledged in Russia. “It has been acknowledged in the Russian Ministry of Education that Nigerians have a lot of exceptional talents. Genetically, Nigerians grasp knowledge easily. “Olalusi is a hardworking person. It is not easy to achieve such in Russia; it goes with talent and hard work. “I urge you to engage your knowledge in the development of your father land.” Mr Olarewaju Olalusi, the father of Olalusi, said that his son’s achievement was as a result of hard work. Olalusi said his son did not attend high class schools but normal public schools which spoke volumes of the standard of education in Nigeria. He then urged parents to monitor their wards closely and make sure they were not distracted from their studies. http:// www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/07/29/ nigerian-sets-record-scores-5-0-gpa-in- russia/ 1 Like 1 Share |

agaugust:A light aircraft or a drone? Whichever it is,this is a result of patriotic dedication, educational improvement and technological advancement of AFIT.Furthermore, this goes to show that Nigeria has the technology to reverse-engineer complex electronic armaments like light aircrafts and drones: I guess this explains why the NAF is still clinging to our jaguar fleet{many analysts have recommended a complete overhaul in India} This is a very good development for our airforce.kudos to AFIT. |
