A close friend of mine has been in detention since last week. He had issues with the company he works for. Information reaching me was that he was traveling sometime last two weeks. He met a man who relayed his issues to him at the airport. He(my friend) out of pity went to withdraw a sum of #100k and handed it over to his friend. It was until this fellow left before he realized what he had done. Whereas this money doesn't belong to him nor his company but a customer company(one of the companies his company renders services to).
His company has settled the customer company and now they've bounced on my friend saying he must pay a sum of #3.5m else he'd be charged to court. My friend has no such amount neither does his family members.
One of his elder sisters went with her lawyer to see the MD of the company to plead. But all fell on deaf ears saying 'if by Friday the money isn't ready,we should expect file suit' which I'm sure we know what that means.
Pls I'm begging with mercies of God,help us. I may have nothing to offer,but God will bless you beyond human imagination.
Any amount to save this young promising soul from perishing will be appreciated.

Let him go to court na, He was duped! A good lawyer can defend him. How did 100k turn to 3.5million? Unless u r not telling us the whole truth.

He gave out a 100k how did it become 3.5m? There's something I'm not getting, why don't you just tell us the name of the company lets blow it out of proportion like they are if truly it's not beyond what you wrote o

All I've said is nothing but the plain truth.
I want to keep the company's name hidden. Its an IT firm(Software designs,programming and all) based in Lekki,Lagos.
Pls,I'm begging,render assistance. The court hearings may not be fair to him. He is just 22 years of age. He'd be 23 in 2weeks time. Pls,I don't want him in the police cell or in jail term.

Let his family keep pleading and if possible get someone the MD respects so much to plead on his behalf.

There may not even be any reason for extra financial outlay apart from refunding the 100K, but people can only help if they have the full story.
BTW has he refunded that?
If hasnt refunded the 100k first things first he needs to do that.

Was the transfer made from an agreed and dedicated test account?
And why to his own personal account? Did his bosses know about and agree to this before hand?

During testing cyles, dummy accounts are set up and used .. . did the bank find out that the money had been taken from a customers account and traced it back to the company/your friend?

As its a bank involved, I can see how serious this may be taken by the bank and his company.
It can permanently ruin business between his empoyer and the bank and the bank can sue the company too.

The fact that the bank is chasing the money suggests to me that they are not happy that the money went "missing" (stolen) it was probably from an innocent customer account too.

Maybe lawyers in the house can advise what to do next but I am sure that they will want the full & honest story of what actually happened before anyone touches this case with a barge pole.

Let me comment my reserve but this your brother sounds very fraudulent. He tried to make away with the bank's money probably testing if 100k won't be noticed. The story of being duped is so that it evokes pity instead of disgust that he used the money to flex his friends.

what he did was wrong. He was testing out software and then made a transfer. Once he had proved the transfer worked, why didnt he immediately return the money to the bank? He kept it in an account of his that he had access to withdraw from anytime. Instead he met someone and gave out the money to that person, now he's claiming jazz and dupe? Which defense will sound sensible?

I'm sorry but this story sounds like someone tried to use money that wasn't his and got caught. I ran it by a lawyer for a top bank and he laughed. He said it won't be the first time, only that most cases he handles is internal (where a bank worker takes money out of an account and is found out).

I'd advise your friend to lawyer up. This is not a case of an innocent victim, he knew what he was doing. Cop a plea, get fired (and most likely not be able to get a job near a bank again because they share that info) and that's it. He may have cost his company money but I don't think he's liable for it.

If you need quality advice, you'll get it here. Don't expect nairalanders to donate 3.5 million naira bailout for your friend. He tried to swindle his company and almost ruined their reputation. I'll advise you to get a lawyer to appeal the case for the company to bring down the settlement amount. It is well him.
