What is not included in this write up is that the European Union shot itself in the foot with the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation. Russia replied the European Union sanctions by placing agricultural trade embargo on some agricultural products produced by the European Union. The farmers in Europe need their local market to survive. hence the flimsy excuse used to ban imports from Nigeria. The planet is a global community, the ripple effect of any crap like terrorism and sanctions is definitely bound to affect everyone one way or the other. My two cents 5 Likes |

The excuse by Paul Orhii, the Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control that exporters caused the problem by not complying with regulatory requirements for semi-processed and processed commodities is untenable. NAFDAC has not conducted its regulatory oversight properly and needs to put stringent measures in place to monitor our products and guarantee them as safe for export before the next EU review in 2016. The Ministry of Agriculture did not pay sufficient attention to the problem either. I see no reason why NAFDAC should be the ones managing this. It iS not pRACtical. There ought to be central organisations that recieve the products from farmers this organisatons should do spot checks on the products before accepting them for export |

Feranmicharles:Cho. Read the article na, Yoruba dont produce beans, sesame oil and palm oil as much as Hausa and Igbo, on the local level, tonnes of delicious beans consumed in Lagos is sold by Hausa to Igbo who resell to Yoruba. Meanwhile, beans is favourite food in many homes, but the said pesticide applies to the produce for export I think. |

loomer: No, it simply means that more of it would be available for local consumption. If my elementary economics knowledge is still intact, I think that the export ban should drive down the local prices of the aforementioned items. 1 Like |

Its so appauling dt at dis 21st Century Nigeria is still Dependent on Imported commodities,I stand to be corrected if wrong bt 90% of the food we consume in dis country is imported and the masses contribute greatly to this cos we dnt even believe in locally produce anymore,Ban or No Ban,we can survive without this EU if only we can make policies dt can encourage our farmers nd the government at all level should ban importation of those products into this country |

loomer: Possibly the OPPOSITE. If you cannot export them you must sell them 'in country'. This may mean a 'glut', flooding of the market with a potential reduction in price. |
