profojah: Boss, you are so hilarious. Mehhn, it's crazy. Now I know why our gurus emphasize on acing GRE to help get funding. Getting funding can really reduce the "heart attack" one might get for studying in US. To prepare and rewrite GRE can be tiring. I don't know how guys write it twice or thrice. If one has gotten to know this thread before writing GRE, it could have been better. I implore all prospective students that plans to do postgraduate studies to get the necessary materials and study hard. Getting funding from school saves a whole lot of stress. 1 Like |

DARKLIGHT:Nope. U pay for a SIM card once and that's it! U only pay for your service monthly. E.g I bought a ultra mobile SIM card on ebay for $1, shipping included. Buying the same SIM card in a shop will definitely cost me more because that's just the way it is. Every month I have to pay for service, so I can make calls and text. For ultramobile, the cheapest monthly payment is $19. If I subscribe for that plan, that means every month I only have to pay $19. Makes sense now? |

Hi guys, good day to y 'all. I am about to go for studies in the US. Here are the highlights of my story: I returned from the UK on the 31st of January 2015 after completing my masters in Electronics and Communications Engineering. After consulting with my parents, I decided that It will be good to go for a second masters in computer information systems in the US, so I started preparing. However after following this thread for a while now l think I might have committed some blunders: 1) l selected 4 schools all located in Texas. 2) l already have a Masters from the Uk though In a different subject area from the one I am planning to do now 3) 1 haven't really settled down to work. Its been from one academic environment to another. 2000-2006 secondary school 2006-2011 Undergraduate UNN studied electronic engineering , 2012-2013 NYSC, 2013-2014 MSc Uk, 2015 till date: Been Involved in both a professional course on prince 2 foundation and Practitioner and preparing for this my US masters. The main reason for embarking on this US MSc being l want to have a broad base especially in ICT and Engineering. Don't want any form of employment drawback to my dream Career. please Guys advice me on this whole Issue. I will be booking an interview date after we have all brainstormed and trashed this my Issue. Expected to resume school as from 18th of August. Thanks In advance |

DARKLIGHT: I was told it is gonna be hard because of curriculum variance even u are going for the same course. I plan to do so after my first semester but I would do be doing a thorough enquiry on that with the university I plan to transfer to. |

I have an app in my phone I have been using for like 2years now. I can call US and Canada for free and when I need to call international number I just buy unit with my card. You can also text as well but you need an Internet connection to do that. I used it to communicate with my school during my admission process. Those in the U.S. It will best work for you guys if only you have Wifi or you get a network without subscribing their plan if it's possible like that. |

DARKLIGHT:Before buying any SIM Card though, make sure you know if it works in your area. My friend bought me a simple mobile SIM card from bestbuy but I didn't have a phone. So when I got my phone and tried activating the SIM, It doesn't walk in my area. That was why I got a T-Mobile SIM card. And if I recall now, I paid $80 at the store somewhere in Houston. I guess it included my first month phone bill, the price of the SIM card and maybe the guy put some extra dollars. Don't get a phone on contract if you're not ready to keep paying between $80-$120 every month...depending on carrier and also the type of phone you get. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by MsNas(f): 5:07pm On Jul 31, 2015 |
SantaClause:It's quite different. Such won't work here. This is because, in Nigeria you can receive calls even if you have no subscription or credit on your phone. Here, if your monthly subscription ends, that is the day you cease to make or even receive calls. You can't receive calls if you don't pay your monthly bill. So for your app to work, you actually have to have call minutes on your line which means paying some money, even if its the lowest plan your provider has. I don't know about other networks but one of my friends in AR used to use AT&T and her plan was like $25 or $30, can't remember. But the problem was that she was given like 250minutes of talk and unlimited text. Now that's a problem because her talk time sometimes get's exhausted cos they count received calls and also outgoing calls. For people like me who spend hours on the phone calling Nigeria, its a no no. |

DARKLIGHT:Eeyah!. I never believed it until I heard about Dicapino's case despite his Super-Solid profile. Maybe it depends on the school tho. |

MsNas: Oh okay...what about using phones like iPhone wereby you can still use wifi without a working line?? Cos it's an app which requires mobile connection before it works so if I have were to always connect to wifi what do you think? Lol just trying to see if one can safe some cash. |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by MsNas(f): 5:13pm On Jul 31, 2015 |
SantaClause:Not possible. I use one as well, and they will always send you messages like a week before your bill is due to pay so that your service won't be uninterrupted. Maybe you can use your Nigerian line with it, but then you can't receive calls or you'll incur high roaming costs. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by zeezahbee(f): 5:14pm On Jul 31, 2015 |
SantaClause:So it means you have to be beside a wifi all day and all night. Santa, this your name no suit you oooo. Paying phone bill should be the last problem you can ever face here. Rent is there, electricity, tuition and food. Your solution is get simple mobile or t-mobile and go for the $29 plan. Unlimited call and SMS to any USA line. Then you can use wifi when you are home or In school 1 Like |

LagosNIV: Thank you for all your inputs. I obviously still need to do some more research. I have my concentration on fixed wings but even rotary winds(helicopter) is not a bad idea. But before I have the opportunity at any of these option in the various branches I have to legally naturalise. A lot of research I've read and some of the civilian pilots helm I've spoken to have strongly advised to keep my options open... For most civilian pilots in the United States, their first few years after flight training is usually quite hell-ish with very low pay and unimaginable schedule. Anyway I can improve that trend is always welcomed. Passion is still what keeps pilot hanging on. Thank you again for all your inputs. 1 Like |

Even if I don't have money to pay for them talking to my love ones at home alone will keep me strong and believing I would conquer my difficulties but in the absent of were you cannot even talk to them to give you joy that were depression comes in |
