Let us know what type of credit card it is then. cheesy

https://www.bankofamerica.com/credit-cards/products/secured-credit-card.go

You don't need to have a SSN to get a regularly credit in BoA. Unlike Wells Fargo and others BoA can help u build our credit. U just need to build a relationship with the bank for you to get a regular card. They advice you to get a secured card if they see how desperate you are in getting a card. Having a credit card and building ur credit is no big deal for Intl students. Its all about understanding the how the system works here.

Snazzygirl:

Mr Musicwriter, why nau? You must not understand how the American system works. Nobody grew up with the mindset that they can't live without credit. You need to know "credit" and "credit history" don't mean the same thing. The only thing that people need to know is having a good credit history shows financial responsibility.
Of course, people buy houses with saved up cash all the time without mortgage. The point is houses here are very expensive, and it takes the average American a while to save up to be able to afford a house without the assistance of a bank. Mortgage is an avenue to save yourself some rent, and have your own house sooner than later. It is the same way back home. People buy homes or lands and pay in installments. The only difference is it is difficult to get financial assistance from any bank. The American system is all about options, don't make it out into what it isn't. If you want to save your money and buy a house when you have enough cash, perfect! If you want to have a house soon and don't wan to wait till you've saved enough, perfect! There is something for everyone. Nobody is trying to lure anybody into poverty!

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing".........Malcolm X.

The above quote literally applies to anybody who don't understand or attacking me for what I'm saying.

Yet, I thank you for the explanation. But, how many percentage of the population do what you just said?. Because, this's rather like the exception than the norm.

In my life I have owned 7 cars over the years. All the cars were paid for at once, each time. And I bought them because I could afford them. Why is a system that lure me into debt to own the same car a good thing?. I mean, if I was in the US I would have taken loan to purchase the same car, even if I earn exactly the same income as in Nigeria?. Do you understand?. I wish you could understand what I'm saying.

I have so much on my mind now, that I don't even know where to begin to answer you.

Look, I have a brother who've been staying in the US since 1980, it seems the longer he stays the poorer he becomes. Stays in Maryland, Baltimore. Well, I have long told him the US economic structure is built to keep people poor, while giving them the illusion they're wealthy. A country where you can make money, but you can't keep the money.

I also have a friend (whiteman) in Bullhead city, Arizona as I speak and we discuss everything about the US.

Plus, I studied geography and one country that I've had serious interest from childhood is the US. Others are Japan, Germany. So, while you can tell me about day to day events, because you're there, but there are many things I can tell you that you don't know.

Look, this credit culture started over 400 years ago in the slave plantations, and today it have become a way of life. Such that people no longer see the evil under their nose (you may need to go back and read the link I earlier posted, in case you haven't done so).

As Malcom X inferred, the US media have done a nice job of blindfolding people into poverty. Fortunately, few People like Noam Chomski understand what I'm saying.

Why do you think the occupy wall street happened?.

I mean, people have been calling for different types of social justice in different parts of the world. Some call for change of government, some call for democracy. But, Americans called for occupy wall street!. Why do you think they did that?

Once again you are making the grave mistake of comparing Nigeria with US and you think that what is obtainable in Nigeria is easily obtainable in the US. The economic system of the US is not so favourable and is designed to keep one in debt. Everybody knows this but it gets to a point that many people just have to utilize the system the way it is.

Don't think you know all there is to America from what you have heard from people until you actually come here and experience the system yourself.

good day guys. please i need advice on the issue of bank. please what bank do you guys think would be good for me. i'm and undergrad and will be staying in New Jersey, i was thinking between chase or Bank of America. and also please which account do yo think would be convenient for I? a savings account or a checking account. And lastly, can i open the account as soon as i get into the US or do i have to wait to resume school before i would be able to open the account?

Thanks.

Capital One bank is great. They have an account for students with no annual fees or charges whatsoever for 5 long years. If you have one near you, try opening an account with them.

I hear Wells Fargo is also great.

No, and I must inform you I'm not a US hater. I actually love the US people, but not their government.

I love rock and roll. My favourite bands; the Frays, Green day, Nickleback, Coldplay, U2, Bon Jovi, 3 doors down. Name them!.

Back to your question.

It depends what they're going there to do. For example; if you want to get rich forget about going to the US. You have more chance of getting rich in Nigeria than US.

1. If you want to go for tourism, Yes.

2. If you want to go on business trip, Yes.

3. If you want to go study (education) Yes or No.

No, because the US system for all the reasons already explained will trap you in the web of their debt economy and may prevent you from coming back home to contribute to development in Africa. As a matter of fact, there's a special clandestine US policy to trap intelligent people from third world countries and retain them in US soil after acquiring their education, thereby, preventing them returning to contribute to their various countries.

4. If you want to go live a comfortable life in a country where you can have constant power supply, good road, water, obtain easy credit/loan because you're sure of paying at the next pay cheque. Yes.

You've made some solid points. Bigfrancis is also right. Yes, the real money is in Africa, that is why a lot of foreigners are taking available flights to Africa just to come and grab their own share.

You know when someone eats meat and keep bone for you, that is what some western countries really are right now.
