I will need some plans drawn for me for a single level structure.

If you've recently did similar please email me on how much you paid via the Nairaland email system. Or here so that we can all learn.

Architectural fees are based on the the proposed structure to be designed which are not limited to Structural Drawing,Mechanical and Electrical Drawing.

Can you provide a description of your proposed single level structure?

Great question. I was given a quote of #200K. However, it will be free if I use them for the construction of my single story home.

I would like to know if the quote given to me was fair.

Thank you to those that have shared.

I'm assuming that these prices exclude local government approvals?

They charge that high because they are greedy. I have seen one charged in the excess of 2M Naira here on nairaland for four-flat.

We are coming of age in Nigeria in terms of using the web to level the playing field.

There are numerous Architects/Designers/Drafters on Nairaland, we need to harness and leverage our buying power as consumers to compel ALL artisans to be dedicated and reasonable in their pricing.

Some nut job Architect in Ibadan quoted me N2.5 million too for a bungalow.

In my case I've already drawn what I wanted and I know exactly what I want and just need someone to Nigerianize it for approval. It's not that complicated to draw a house (bungalow at least) to be built with blocks.

Plans litter the internet and Fiverr is littered with Architects that can draw plans from $5 to $80

Edit: I also wanted to add that the onus is also on the consumer to shop around to ascertain market rate, just like I'm doing. Look before you leap.

Architects are not artisans!
There are industry standards in terms of fees and the level of involvement required.

Normally the fees you pay industry wide is usually a percentage of the cost of construction for a standard project based on the scale of professional fees, which is in the public domain.

However, based on relationship, level of experience or level of desperation you can get lower negotiated fees as low as 20k especially from undergraduate, new graduates searching for job, dropouts etc.

I should also mention that some will overcharge you if the they think they can get away with it.

Bottomline, if you have the money engage registered professionals with physical offices - Architects, Engineers, surveyors etc negotiate fees not higher than scale of fees recommendation. If you don't have the money or you just want a draft - new graduate, undergraduate or young graduate will be a better alternative.

Basically the charge you get will be the value he or she puts on their service.

what is the value of your service?

Remember there are quacks out there.

2.5m to design a bungalow is outrageous

How much do you think it will cost you to build a standard semidetached duplex? Lowest all things being equal and if you are the engineer will be 25m.

Paying 400 - 600k for a professional work is not too much, although you can get a lower quote.

So what is the industry standard?

Value of what service?

I used the word artisan in general and I stand by it. No worries though because even a 2 stroke engine repair person considers himself an engineer in Nigeria.

What is your worth per hour? How do u value your service?

Someone's hourly rate may be $500 and another may be $50. Thats their value and they will charge you accordingly. You always have choices.

Architects are not artisans! You can't call architect and artisan in the same breadth and say your generalising.

By the way I'm not an architect just so u know.

There is no fixed price to any intellectual service, it just depends on how much value the professional is going to bring based on years of

education and experience. In some cases 2.5m might be a fair amount when certain factors and responsibilities are considered, it is only

outrageous if this sum is only for a full design proposal by an individual and not a registered firm.

I'm calling an architect an artisan, you can continue to disagree.

My rate is not what's in question and this is a non sequitur. This is a serious conversation and I do not wish for this to delve into the more common Nairaland tit for tat debacle.

The intent of the thread is specific, have you paid an architect lately, if so how much? This is not a bash on architects. It also matters less to me what your profession is.

So can we get a range in pricing?

As an example, N50,000 standard fee plus N500 per square meter is my companies standard rates for bungalows will be an acceptable response. Yes?

True.

And I have no problem employing as such. Even big firms have work done by internal interns but overseen by tenured staff.

Acceptable response from a first year Undergrad or a Registered professional architect??

The range depends on the individual.. Someone could charge you N5 even..

Exactly and hence why my original posting didn't ask for a high brow firm and actually specifically deviates from that.

You should see what I got from Fiverr for $5, very impressive.

I'm savvy enough that I already drew what I wanted and just need to submit an acceptable drawing to local government. My trust is not ONLY in the architect but also the structural and soil engineers.
