Google63: Upgrading from an unsupported version is not recommended usually, because too many things can go wrong. It's better and easier to back up your home folder and do a clean install. That said, if you really insist on upgrading from 12.10 you can check this link if you can figure thing out http://askubuntu.com/questions/91815/how-to-install-software-or-upgrade-from-an-old-unsupported-release |

purplekayc: Google63:remember to back up your home partition or if you created a separate one you could format the rest and leave it out during install. purplekayc:No it isn't but it's the latest LTS version |

Re: Ubuntu Linux by Barywhyte(m): 2:28pm On Aug 26, 2015 |
Google63: Sorry if you have done fresh install but next time you don't have to if you have access to a strong and excessive wifi. The latest LTS for ubuntu is 15.04 called vivid. Next release is due to be released in october. The downside in upgrade is that you can only upgrade from one release to the immediate next and not in any other way. For instance from 14.10 to 15.04 and not from 14.04 to 15.04. Got it? Now you understand why I said you need abundant wifi for successive upgrades. $sudo apt-get update $sudo apt-get upgrade #optional tho $sudo apt-get dist-upgrade $sudo do-release-upgrade $sudo reboot |

Hey guys!. Been a while. I just came across the old Ubuntu Nigeria wordpress blog, and it brought back some fond memories of the good old days. It probably doesn't have any information that's still relevant, but It definitely has nostalgia value. You can check it out https://ubuntunigeria./ |

This is worth a share. Someone asked me a question this morning about login into a mikrotik router on a raspberry Pi that didn't have a browser. Took me a while to figure out his question as I thought he merely wanted to connect into the WiFi network,. He actually needed to login into the network after using IwConfig to join. So I remembered the small utility called w3m. Yeah u can browse in a terminal. It does http 1.0 Funny how I never used to remember this. U Really need to save data and just want to read text, why not... It's why we use Linux. It's why we chose freedom Run sudo apt-get install w3m w3m-img To open a webpage just run 'w3m url' E. G w3m Nairaland.Com Cheers I'm sure newbies are also aware you can download in terminal without any app? Wget DownloadLink It supports resumable links too. Most download apps in Linux are actually just front end to Wget 1 Like 1 Share
