NLC Plans Protest Day Against Corruption by simongonner: 8:33pm On Aug 03, 2015 |
The Nigeria Labour Congress has disclosed its preparation to declare a day of protest against high level corruption in the country. The NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, said this in Uyo on Monday during the inauguration of the 2015 NLC Rain school. According.to Wabba, the congress leadership will ask the National Executive Council of the union to declare a National Protest Action on corruption. He said, “The congress’ National Executive Council will hold in a few days time in Abuja. “The congress leadership will ask NEC to declare a day of National Protest Action to highlight our anger at the massive corruption and bad governance of the recent past and make our case that all stolen wealth must be recovered, and those involved, face appropriate punishment for their crime.” Wabba asked President Mohammadu Buhari to make available the names of all those who had been identified as having looted the nation’s treasury. He said Buhari had promised to make public the identities of public officers, who participated in the massive looting of over $ 150bn in the last decade alone. The NLC boss added, “We await the arrest and prosecution of the former Minister, who was recently alleged to have stolen $6bn from our commonwealth.” He added that the 2015 general elections, in which the All Progressives Congress defeated the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, had shown that Nigeria’s democracy had come of age. He commended the education department of the union for its hard work in ensuring that the 2015 rain school was held successfully. He expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State Government and people for hosting the seventh Rain School. The state chairman of NLC, Mr. Etim Ukpong, said labour would continue to support government, adding that the welfare of workers must remain paramount in its agenda. http://www.punchng.com/news/nlc-plans-protest-day-against-corruption/ |

NLC just waking up from its slumber. If this civil organization was patriotic and sincere with its course, the level of corruption we would have not seen this level of corruption in our country. Rather than go on strike over increment of fuel prices, this organization should have been requesting for good governance, transparency and accountability. Where all these are not obtainable, then strike action should take place |

mecuzee:Ode!...it will surely serve as a MAJOR deterrent to any intending looter and a lesson to the generation Indomie who have been taught that quick money is the real deal and stealing is not corruption. Also it will put pressure on the looters to give up their loot and to put pressure on Nigerians because from my analysis on Nairaland, people are now being SYMPATHETIC towards these thieves. |

Way to go NLC. That support and endorsement is definitely needed to encourage Baba in his ant corruption campaign. Stealing has indeed become corruption. Buhari- rewriting the corruption dictionary of Nigeria since 1983. 1 Like |
