KunleBoye:Noooo! what the country need now is science not religion we are in the 21 century for heavens sake how will religion help us match toe to toe with other developed nations. We run to them for help whenever we are in trouble why is this religion not solving our problems. The US refused us arms, Ebola drugs, etc because we do not have the capability to manufacture. Mr President, religion should take a back seat in this vehicle called Nigeria and let science be the driver please. |

sweetgala: I have no need to lie. I am telling my own story as it is. It's a pity it offends you. It was COMPULSORY and yes, I also learnt Arabic. I still remember some of the alphabets. We studied about 21 subjects in JS1 then; subjects such as Typing, Shorthand, History, Geography, Civic education etc. before the 6-3-3-4 system came into force. But not long after that, there was a new government and a new policy that made it optional, and also optional for Muslims to study CRK. The aim of Federal schools then was to integrate both religions and all tribes. Like I said in my earlier post, I hope its for a good motive. You are quick to claim that I will be judged, when you have already passed your own judgement lol. |

^ JSS is the 6334 system. if you were in JS1, that means you were in 6334. |

tpiander: I used JSS1 here for clarity's sake. I was in the second set that switched to 6-3-3-4 and spent an extra year. It wasn't funny then. The problem we have now in Nigeria is that there is a lot of religious and tribal insensitivity. There is also a lot of mutual suspicion. Our leaders need to be careful. Nigeria of today is very very different from 1984. |

sweetgala: You are free to believe what you like. Its a free country. I attended FGGC Benin, finished 1989. I studied 21 subjects in Class 1 (later changed to JSS1) because we were migrated to 6-3-3-4 system the following year. Those subjects included IRK, CRK, Typing, Shorthand, History, Geography, Civic Education etc. Like I said earlier, I hope the motive is good. Nigeria is too volatile now to make such a subject compulsory simply because they are Federal Schools. This is not 1984. I have no need to tell lies. I am not a politician. |

A lot of the posters on the first page of this thread are shameful human beings. I attended a federal government college and in jss1 we were made to do Arabic as a compulsory subject alongside yoruba and hausa so what exactly is the outcry i see here for From the content of the topic, the president only recommended books for those studying IRS I weep for most people on here sha 2 Likes |

Any attempt by buhari to impose islam on Nigeria’s education shall fail. Everyday this man is committing new blunder. Yesterday, he assured Nigerians living in diaspora to remain in another man's land so as not to contribute more to unemployment. What kind of President is this? If he's not capable of running the affairs of dis nation, let him take a bow. |

When on earth will nigerians stop thinking this way, afterall, what make u thinks PMB will islamize Nigerians through a book, haba, this man is only trying to upgrade the curriculum that's all,to be blunt we are the ones making things hard on ourselves. |
Re: Buhari Wants Islamic Books Included In Federal Schools' Curriculum by tpiander: 10:32pm On Aug 03, 2015 |
ohzee: Are you saying in your school, you started with Class 1 (different curriculum) and then switched to JS2 the following year? I have never heard of such. A lot of technical and computer skills and classes were introduced into the schools at that time (or were supposed to have been introduced). And the type of scenario you just described, was what was specifically prevented. There was to be absolutely no mixing at all. You either started with the system or you didn't. of course I'm open to correction if wrong? |

TeamSimple: saying someone is unemployable shows you probably bought your qualifications, or else were given a free ride. an educated person doesn't talk like that. |

tpiander:How should I talk? Just take a look @ the comments coming from our youths. How does URGING of Islamic text books for IRS students in federal schools equate Islamization of the country? It's never a compulsory subject not even for muslim students. And mind you I used MOST not all,so am not refering to anyone in particular. Soory if you feel affected. |
Re: Buhari Wants Islamic Books Included In Federal Schools' Curriculum by ohzee(f): 11:44pm On Aug 03, 2015 |
tpiander: YES we were switched to the new system. Like I said it was painful to spend 6 years instead of 5. Many tried to beat the system by writing GCE before the newly-introduced SSCE so that they could go to UNI early. It worked for some, but didn't for others. The Minister of Education then (in my SS3) was Jibril Aminu. Those subjects I talked about were combined into Business Studies (Typing, Shorthand and Business Method), Social Studies (History, Geography and Civic Education) etc. However, all that is in the past now. |

ohzee: true. i think most students who went to federal govt colleges, enjoyed it there nonetheless (not speaking from personal experience). Like I pointed out earlier, those are considered elite schools. the transition to 6334 was probably more pronounced because you were the pioneer set. the older system before the one which preceded 6334, was also 6 years in secondary school. 1 Like |

Much ado about nothing.... I don't know why this got to FP. Islamic Religious Studies and Christian Religious has always been courses in Nigeria Secondary Schools, I studied CRK in SS1, due to my curiosity, had IRK been in the menu, I would have studied it as well. |
