zeemoore:That's not absolutely true as you can't give what you don't have. The level of your success most times hinges a lot on your early upbringing ,though there are cases where people have defied this logic but how many of them? |

By this, you mean? Truckpusher:It's a known fact some parents are crap Many have been hurt physically and emotionally by their parents but we don't live in our past, do we? Re-visiting your not-so-good childhood will only 'kill' you Hanging on to hurt, if not careful, wastes one's life You can't live your life blaming your failures on what your parents did or didn't do for you. It's a waste of time trying to be angry at them and feeling sorry for yourself We all have choices in life You can choose to blame everyone except yourself for your misfortunes and wallow in self-pity or you can pick yourself up and say to yourself 'this is my life, I'm responsible for my own existence. Though I'm not responsible for what happened to me as a child, I'm responsible for what I make of my life/ what I choose to do with my life. I have to do something to make my life better and whatever failure I suffer, i have no one to blame but myself'
I know of people and I've read stories of people who made it big and built a satisfying life despite their terrible beginning/childhood, neglect and deprivation, emotional, physical and sexual abuse Those who became failures are those who chose to hold on to hurt from years ago though there are cases where people have defied this logic but how many of them? 1 Like 1 Share |

My mum noticed girls used to flock around me when I was much younger. Then she called me aside one day... "Omo mi, when u sleep with a girl(e.g Tosin), u become one body with her(she backed it up with 1 Cor.6:16). When u 2 break up & she gets someone else(Dele), a part of u in her will be shared with d guy. Maybe Dele has side chicks or gets anoda gf after Tosin. A part of u in him will be shared with them too, and it goes on & on till Tosin herself get married. Unfortunately, dis generation of young pple would ve dated 7/8 persons b4 getting married." These words still ring in my ears. Scared to death abt having sex, except I'm so sure we're getting married. 1 Like |

The advice my dad gave me back then when I was about getting into the university was simple: If you impregnate any girl, we will accept her and the baby but just know that that is the end of your education as far as we are concerned. The money for your school, we will spend on the girl and the baby Funny thing was; the man was damn Serious. |

My father once seen that I'm not too serious and yabbed me in public in the glare of his servants, staffs and neighbours raising his voice .... ''Boy, My property is mine alone and mine alone , If I should die tomorrow, i will ensure you have access to non of them , you better sit your as:s down and work for your life while I'm alife ... Whatever I give you now is yours and I'm only given you education........ Look around you , you will have non of these while I'm alive or dead unless you work yours '' I cried so much for the public embarrasment, He later chilled me down and explain how and why I need to work hard for my fortune His words were the strength of my life today....... I've achieved alot with those words being my benchmark !! .... He died exactly two years after those words and the family members has been begging me to take my share of his property .... I also begged them to take them to charity .... His wealth are still lying there ... I've never access them ... I've achieved but still on the street even as President of this country or UNSG, I would never leave street lailai !! His words worked .... I'm good and still advancing !! 3 Likes 1 Share |

When I gained admission into the university of Calabar at 15. My father called me and said "Aworinde if you like go and disgrace yourself there, I will simply tell people you ran mad and were shipped to the asylum. Oya go there and don't disgrace my name. Ori nla so your only concern is how much garri you would be given? Bankole get me my whip. Any girl you impregnate, consider yourself married!!" All that one Wey he dey talk my eye dey garri. I left Ogun with his words ringing in my ears. |

My dad will always say "education is power... Get knowledge and you'll not drown in life". True... But then I realised: *I could die with all the education before I even enter the society.. May be in an accident or whatever * I could come down with an incapacitating illness that will greatly limit my exploits in life *I could lose my source of funding before I'm done with school *I could be spiritually attacked by witches and other practitioners of dark magic at any point in time rendering all my efforts useless. And the list of uncertainties go on... Then I realised I needed God... A God that can preserve life and protect me from dark forces. That'll always provide and bear me through hard times. I pray continually to have these unknown areas covered while I do my human best to fulfil my purpose And it's been a beautiful stress free journey so far. |

Driving me back to my university hostel one evening, he turned to me and said: "Men are really like women who are virgins as wives"! He must have sniffed the fact I was no longer one. Poor dude! |
