Buhari Orders Speedy Action On Re-establishment Nigeria Airways by Flye: 11:39pm On Aug 05, 2015 |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ordered the Ministry of Aviation to immediately come up with modalities on the establishment of a new national airline. Nigeria has been operating a public-private partnership (PPP) national airline since the defunct Nigerian Airways folded. Briefing State House correspondents at the presidential villa, Permanent Secretary, Aviation Ministry, Binta Bello, said the President was worried about Nigeria not having a national air carrier. She also said the President was briefed on the challenges domestic airlines were facing despite federal government’s N300 billion intervention fund designed to boost their operations. According to her, the airlines were hugely indebted to regulatory agencies under the Aviation Ministry, including other factors that have left some of the airlines still struggling to maintain optimum operational capabilities. Bello added that the four state-of-the-art terminals being constructed with Chinese Bank loan will be ready by first quarter of 2016. http://247nigerianewsupdate.co/buhari-orders-speedy-action-on-re-establishment-nigeria-airways/ |

I know the wailing wailers will rush to condem it without reading PPP moderlities at which it will be established, anyway my advice that all the 16 private jets the past presidents has bought including those presidential jet bought by immediate past president should be converted interns of cash to support the national carrier. Wailing wailers come and condem it since it was Buhari that wants to set it up not your fraudster hero who spent 9.5billion naira on environmental stove. 1 Like |

This is my problem with Buhari. Who will establish the National carrier? Is it the Civil servants? What steps has Buhari taken to see to the establishment of the carrier? What plans does he have? Why can't he appoint Aviation Minister to draft a plan? Dear Nigerians, Buhari so called directive will yield no result if he continue to rely on civil servants to draft policies for him. Their jobs as Civil Servants is implementation. |

We don't need this! Another way to enrich politickricians and their cronies. Richard Branson failed and said that it was his greatest mistake venturing into Naija aviation business. 1 Like |

barcanista: Precisely, what is the need of floating a national carrier in this current puerile economic terrain. I thought the actions of the new government was aimed at reducing expenditure. Why the fluctuations in economic policy. The issue of a national carrier died with the OBJ dispensation with the failure of the ethopian controlled Eagle airlines or whatever it was called. The policy of government right now should be to reduce the amount of unproductive institutions still tied to it and not acquiring new ones. The government should only play the role of a regulatory body in the various sectors not trying to become a major player. The emphasis should be on the notion that government has no business doing business. If he chooses to go down this path then am afraid that his Marxist-socialist disposition will leave this country crippled for a long time to come |

egift:Wrong, they should completely hands off the aviation sector except assuming the role of a watchdog to keep the various stakeholders and carriers in check. Our economy right now does not encourage such frivolous spending, period 1 Like |

adconline:Exactly, Richard Brandon, a successful aviator and entrepreneur failed Also the ever successful ethopian airlines could not bolster our dilapidated Nigerian airways. So what would be the new tonic to reawaken the dinosaur where two notable experienced professionals failed 1 Like |

barcanista:Policy can be drafted by anybody and not only politicians. That said, this is unwise. Aviation is a capital and technical intensive investment. He should leave that for now. Its not compulsory we have a national carrier for now. 1 Like |

hinwazaka:I don't see any problem with government participation as a player in the industry as long as the right policies and mechanism are in place to encourage professionals to run it, curb corruption and strict adherence to regulations. What I'm more concerned is for the government to do what is proper by coming out with a workable plan/blueprint rather than rely on civil servants. |

AZeD1:Wrong! Policies are drafted by policymakers and technocrats and must be in line with the agenda of the President and the programs of the party in power. The job of the civil servants is to implement these policies while the Minister in charge supervises. This is the reason people will always call for the head of the president/minister/party should anything goes wrong and not the career civil servants. |

barcanista:. between the civil servant (permanent secretary) & minister of ministry, who is more experience. sometimes most of u just talk without having the full knowledge of wat u are say.so because he hasn't appoint minister he should not plan how to move this country forward. |

wolex3030:I once did a comprehensive write-up on the Minister and the Perm-sec. Please read and educate yourself www.nairaland.com/2413908/need-ministers-despite-existing-career Perm-sec's job is to implement and not initiate. That is the job of the people in government (Ministers and President). That is why any government irrespective of party inherits the civil service but ministers bow out with a government/party. 1 Like |

AZeD1:I don't know why you people like unnecessary argument. Only in Nigeria one will be seeing such argument. Like I said, Ministers/President Draft policies which the permsecs' and other civil servants implements. The perm-sec does not draft policies for the government, anybody cannot draft policy for the government. People can only suggest Ideas to the government. Pls read this and I am done wth this argument www.nairaland.com/2413908/need-ministers-despite-existing-career 2 Likes |

barcanista: Yeah it only in Nigeria that certain people aren't allowed to think because they are not ministers. Now we know one of the reasons why Nigeria continuity. Policy .Politics: (1) The basic principles by which a government is guided. (2) The declared objectives that a government or party seeks to achieve and preserve in the interest of national community |

Wow! A welcome development. Truly this is what it means to have ideas.... I see job opportunity here. The sooner they come up with this the better for Nigerians. Gone, are now the days when Nigerian will be scammed of 1000 Naira and then killed because of feeble promise of employment. barcanista:And the link provided is just another opinion expressed by this moniker. I wonder when the FG gave this moniker the monopoly of opinion?. |
