@geesampower Hello So if my requirements are 20 bulbs(20 watts) 2LCD TV's 2 ceiling fans 1 industrial fan(not sure about the wattage) 2laptops. I need an inverter set up for this with the cost for solar power charging it. In terms of PHCN we get at least 12hours a day. I just don't want to have to use PHCN to charge the batteries and I don't want to use the house generator to charge unless I have to. PS. My home does not have the typical slope roof. Its built like a rectangle and water drains from the roof through pipes |
Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by geesampower(m): 1:39pm On Aug 05, 2015 |
salsera: That is about 1500watts. Note: watts is different from kva, so you will need a 3kva inverter hooked up with the solar are through a chrge controller. That will cost 600,000 approximately for a completely independent system. |

geesampower: Evening till morning, good. But I presume the storage unit (battery bank) is supposed to work less during daytime cos the panels provide the electricity as well as charge the batteries during daytime with relatively fair sun hours? Please educate me on that "for evening purposes only" clause. Thank youuu. |
Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by geesampower(m): 7:30am On Aug 08, 2015 |
ceaser:You solar panels provide the electricity that charges the batteries. If you don't have more solar panels than what is required to fully charge the batteries within 8hrs, it is best you leave the system to charge up and only use when it must have been fully charged by evening, BUT this does not mean you can't use solar power during the day, it just means it would need more panels and you will be paying more than N480,000 for that. the amount of panels to be added will depend on the electronics/appliances you want to use in the day time. So it is not limited to night use, all depends on what the client can afford and what is to be powered Thanks for the question |

geesampower: Hello So I'm still unsure what the specs would be then I read all this 6v, 12v 24v all flying around and I'm confused. The batteries spec nko? Im a bit more knowledge of the range of brand names but my plan is to first buy the inverters and batteries then when I get more cash add the solar panels next. |
Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by geesampower(m): 8:52pm On Aug 09, 2015 |
salsera:Every sytem shld be designed and calculated. Not just purchasing what is available or presumed best. 3kva is advisable to be a 24v setup. Meaning 12v arrays in series or 6v in 4 series strings. 24v batteries are not commercially available for inverter or solar power systems. |
Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by geesampower(m): 5:24pm On Aug 10, 2015 |
Royal30:I had to put that clause of only night use not because it can't be used in the day time, but because it would affect the full charging of the batteries and this could lead to disappointment at night when the sun is down. A system that can be fully used in the day time and at night would require the following. For a "heavy" user (you use a lot of electricity during the day, have several tvs on, refridgerators etc) *12 250W solar panels, costs N576,000 *8 200ah batteries N480,000 *4kw inverter N155,000 *80A Mppt charge controller N190,000 *rack, wiring, lightening, and surge protection etc. N45,000 Total: N1,446,000 Alternative (If you won't have more than a tv on at a time during the day, intermittent water pumping, a freezer can be left on always ) *8 250w panels N384,000 *4 200ah deep cc batteries N240,000 *60A mttp controller N130,000 *4kw inverter N155,000 Accessories N45,000 Total: N954,000 Thank you |

geesampower: The 1,446,000 one can it serve a hotel with 50 rooms with air conditions? |
Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by geesampower(m): 7:52am On Aug 13, 2015 |
plasgidy:Simple answer is No sir, CONCISE EXPLANATION As an engineer, let me break it down for you sir. An hotel with 50 rooms will have the following at least. 1. 50 TVs each consumes 100watts on average= 5000watts 2. At least 3 light points each. 26wattsX3X50= 3900 watts 3. At least 1horse power AC. 1hp uses 1200watts (for the reaLly efficient ones) 1200wattsX50= 60,000watts 4. We have to look at the refridgerators, the out door lights, the reception's AC, TV, lights etc. This cld easily add another 5000watts Such an hotel will need either a 80kva generator or 80kva solar power setup to work at full capacity [b]NOTE: a lot goes into solar power than the capacity. Eg. I can tell you a solar power installation costs N600,000 for 3kva BUT many don't know that the number of batteries and solar panels is key to how many hours that 3kva will work for. It is like buying a generator of 50kva but buying only 1 liter of diesel for it per day. Yes the generator is 50kva BUT with just a liter of fuel in it, it won't work for more than a minute. Same with solar systems, u won't be buying fuel ever for it, the fuel is the batteries it contains and the panels, if they are not enough, even though the capacity of the solar power equipment is high, it won't serve satisfactorily. So for such a setup as this, we look at how many batteries, how many panels etc, we bereak down the components so you know exactly what to expect. Summary: I would advise you only use the solar power for backup purpose, cost of running such for 24hrs 70kva would be about 20-30million naira, yes it would serve for about 2 decades, and still costs less than fueling a 70kva generator for even 5years (600,000 per month for fueling such a generator that is what is costs, N36,000,000). So what do I advice Option 1. Power only the lights and tvs Option 2. Power the lights in all the rooms and only the Airconditioning of some selected rooms This way you save cost Option 1. Would be in the range of 15kva Using batteries with 10years life span You need avg of 60 batteries =N4,800,000 120 solar panels = N5,760,000 Inverter, controller, combiner boxes and switches, lighting, surge and over load protection would cost another 900,000 approximately So you are looking at the least of 12million naira for a 50 room hotel that is without Airconditioning. With air-conditioning it would cost about 25million. Thank you 1 Like |

If my plan is to power 15 white bulbs, one lcd tv, 2 ceiling fan and one decoder. What will my set up cost be. The 15 white bulbs will only come on in the evening. Also can I import the panels and the battery and you guys just come over to install? Reason is that I prefer materials from the US rather than the chinese materials. |

jam04:You don't have to import. There are original products from the united states here in nigeria. |
