That is it! This is exactly what we have been talking about.
The early 60s saw Nigeria blossom into an economic power house in the field of agriculture. Each region within the country was in total countrol of its resources. Then the North, South and the East were identified by their agricultural produce of Cotton, Groundnuts, Cocoa, Rubber, Palm-oil etc on the map. Not only were these regions self-suficient in revenue generation, they actually contributed resources to the centre for the overall developement the country. Nigeria's potential of becoming an economic power house was so visible at that time, that economic analyst were more confident of Nigeria's economic outlook than countries like South Korea, Singapore, Malasia and Indonesia.
Alas, ever since Nigeria adobted this Socialist Economic system after the civil war, Nigeria's economic development sky dived from a promising Agro-economic player to a sorry state of a country where the only source of foriegn exchange is crude oil. How can Nigeria develop economically with this kind of structure
Nigeria's current economic structure where proceeds of economic activities are collected by the centre and shared to states is not only the bane of our underdevelopment, it is actually the Corruption hamparing long lasting economic development. This system is fundamentally flawed, outdated, inefficient and unsustainable. It rewards laziness and mediocrity, an Almajiri-Style of system if you like. No nation on earth can develop with this kind of economic structure.
Unless all Nigeria's unite and demand for the Total restructure of Nigeria's economic system to reflect Real Economic Federalism where states or regions will have access and control of their God given resources to develop at their own pace, the circle of mediocity, underdevelopment and backwardness will continue unabated.

Na him I talk wey the parasites dey attack me.

guy, am allergic to boring nonentities, try another style.

I have some serious questions for you guy. Perhaps you can answer them since you're a loud-mouth and all. Why do other Nigerians find the SE inhospitable and uninhabitable? Even PH, in the SS, has more appeal than any SE state to outsiders. And considering how much noise you all make about your 'hard-work' (which has been proven to be a mere myth coz we all now know most of your millionaires are importers of fake products or drug-traffickers) and 'ingenuity', why is it proving so difficult for you to appeal and create another Lagos, PH, or Kano replica in the SE where other Nigerians can feel a part of, and why is it that trading is the only viable venture in the entire SE? Why don't other Nigerians feel free and safe enough to reside in the SE as they do in other part of the country? I can mention areas in at least 3 Yoruba states where your people reside in their numbers, trading and living peacefully like no man's business. Why can't the same be said about your region? Is it that you people are too clannish, inhospitable, unwelcoming, or what?

The Way Forward is simple. The SS / SE must seek to strengthen their relationship and unity. The current system is a hindrance.

I quite agree with you, that's the main reason Nigeria needs to practice Fiscal Federalism but you already know the North will never let that happen.

Edo youths vow to resist pumping of crude oil from Edo to Delta

on November 27, 2013 / in News 12:43 am / Comments

By GABRIEL ENOGHOLASE

BENIN — YOUTHS from Orogho, an oil producing community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, have vowed to resist any attempt by Seplat Petroleum Development Company Limited to continue pumping crude oil produced from the community to Okpororo in Delta State.

The youths, who staged a peaceful protest at the Edo State House of Assembly, in Benin, against the operations of Seplat Petroleum and Newcross Petroleum Limited, expressed dissatisfaction with the operations of the companies, insisting that their operations and attitude smack of deceit and infidelity to the community.

A protest letter by Charles Eghaghe (Chairman) and Osasogie Omoruyi (Secretary), for Orogho Community Development Association, which was handled to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Uyi Igbe and copied to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, accused both companies of lacking transparency, honesty and sincerity.

They accused the oil exploitation companies of trying to weaken the productive base and capacity of Edo State in favour of neigbouring Delta State.

“We can no longer tolerate the fraudulent manipulations to cede oil wells to Delta State. Well 4 is clearly in Orogholand and by extension, Edo State. Evidence produced through joint efforts by Edo and Delta States Surveyor-Generals, speaks volume of this fact,” the youths said.

They also demanded the appointment of one of their own as Community Liaison Officer to act as intermediary between the companies and the community, adding that the companies should wake up to their corporate social responsibilities to the community.

The youths appealed to Governor Oshiomhole and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly to intervene to avert restiveness, rancour and possible breach of the peace in the area.

Receiving the protesting youths, the Speaker commended them for their orderly manner and behaviour, promising that the House Committee on Oil and Gas had been mandated to look into their petition.

Most Nigerians hold this false believe that an incorruptible individual as a leader is what the country need to develop. What they fail to understand is that when the system is flawed, No one can develop the country. No matter how hard they try, the system won't let them. This is what many Nigeria's don't know.

Tell me what is Igbo contribution to Nigeria foreign exchange? Atleast the North contribute Agriculture no matter how small. They contribute more than the Igbo.

I really don't know how enlightened you are but let me correct some little misinformation in your writeup. A look at the attached photo will show you that the SE produce a percentage of the oil and gas you consume and that adds a lot to our foreign reserve. Lets leave it at oil and gas, i don't want to talk about local manufacturing, trade, agriculture and other things the SE exports to earn foreign exchange.

Also, you must be very naive to say that the SE is landlocked. What happened to river Niger? Go pick up a book son, you talk like a child.

The writer above me is the most mischievous writer on Nairaland so far.

The last 16 Years have seen those in the South hold sway over everything important In Nigeria, and yet your letter did not come up to 'ADVICE" them, but now that your Cousin has been rightly sent back to the Creek, he came from without Shoes, you have suddenly realized you are the Isaac Adaka Boro of 2015, and wants agitation for what is still not clear from your write up.

So what exactly is your write up about?you call us Slaves from the South, but don't offer any solution on how we can go about De-Slaving ourselves, you say the 1999 Constitution is a Fraud and has turned us to Slaves, but was clever not to add what can be added to it so as to stop us from being Slaves.

And you had to go low, by praising the Ibo's for their agitation for Biafra. In real life, you must be that guy that KISSES everybody's BU-TTOCKS in the office, so as to look good. Really? the ibo's are resilient?determined?really? and you ended the article with the way forward.

What is the way forward? you never mentioned any.

Now my advice to you.

You are small time, and so let us keep it that way. By the time you start writing inflammatory things, with a view to inciting people, simply means you want to go big time. There are consequences for inciting people against the Government.

You should learn where and how to draw the line, between constructive criticism and a call to Anarchy.

Why are you just realizing that the South people are Slaves since 1999?Okay the Clueless one lost, and its time to play the SLAVE CARD, with those from the South. Why? what do you mean to achieve with your write up?

Like a writer below me said.

Your write up is THRASH.

Africans love and cherish slavery and dishonesty. They will rather be at each others throat than use good judgment to address their problems. Until we let go of all these Oyinbo-inspired system and carve our own, we won't stop killing each other.

Deeply within me, I'm more interested in fiscal federalism or regionalism more than even secession. We can still keep this nation united NOT with force or threat of the same, but by choice and deliberate agreement.

But will the parasites agree with it? They've used their lazy and wicked generals to create a self serving constitution. Will they be sensible and sincere?

Will they accept the injustice if the table were turned? Will the children of Uthman Dan Fodio agree to such dehumanising arrangement? I doubt it. They will dey all their bows and arrows and guns to ensure they get what justly belongs to them. I know them to that extent.
Whether some groups like it or not, centralism will soon give way to fiscal federalism.
The major reason why USSR collapsed in late 1980s was not because of lack of good leadership. Heck USSR had some of the worlds's toughest leaders at that time. It was simple because the Communist centralisation of economic activities was totaly inefficient and unsustainable. That period saw many republics opting out of the Union without a single shot fired.
Nigeria's current economic structure is unsustainable and will soon go the way of Russia.
