I purchased through Investment One making a bid of 12.5%. They said the stop rate for 182 days was 12.3%.
From the cbn website the limit is 12.625%. Is there something I don't know?
I also submitted 12.5% for 182 via GTB and my account wasn't debited meaning it wasn't successful.
I have done tbills before although going at bank rates. I would appreciate any explanations for the above.

If you bidded at 12.5% you should be getting ur bid!

the last Stop rate for 182 days was 12.9%, the one before last was 12.6%

I will advise you move to the secondary market and get a deal at the same 12.5% now.

Does anyone know Zenith Bank's bid rate for 1 year tbills this week?
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by quertyquack: 12:36pm On Aug 07, 2015
I thought so too, hence my post here. Is there something the account manager or financial institution gets by bidding below the requested rate? Feel among, please what institution do you use? I'm tired of these gimmicks.

Can anyone confirm that First Bank now lets clients to specify their preferred minimum bid? It'd be a nice change, if true.

Write a letter and give at least two weeks notice.

You'd lose 20% of interest accrued. If you remember the interest paid upfront, calculate 20% of it. That amount would be deducted from your principal.

Do you understand?

Thank you. I went to the bank and wrote the letter, 24k+ was deducted from 400k, I had received the same 24k+ interest upfront, though I bought the bills which was for six months a month ago, I didn't ask how they calculated, they just told me I will be charged for terminating. After I left the bank, three different people called me to verify if I wanted to go ahead and terminate, the balance of 375k+ was paid into my account less than 24 hours after giving them the letter.

Would you have received a different amount if you had rather sold the TBill at the secondary market?. I thought that there is secondary market for TBills in Nigeria but it appears the banks are treating it like fixed deposit

There is a 'secondary market' for TBills, just as there is for Bonds. But the hassle your banker would go to get them there is another thing, so they prefer treating it like Fixed deposit.

GTB doesn't do less than 1m for primary market I have been told. I stand to be corrected.

Treasury Bill interest is paid upfront. if yours is not paid upfront you need to change your banker.
Your assertion is actually misleading.
There is usually option to chose whether to take your interest yield upfront or on maturity, probably you've been using upfront as default, it doesn't make it the other option wrong.

The option is from your bank and not from CBN. What is the incentive for getting your interest on maturity of the investment? With they pay me a higher interest at maturity.

Getting N1million in August 20015 ought to be more desireable by an investor than getting the same N1 million in December 2015.

Then again, it's optional.
One may decide to roll over principal+Int. at the end of first tranche.

It is better you get your interest and roll-over your principal if need be, TB are bought in tens of thousands but in practice it is in hundreds of thousands or millions.

That is you can invest 100k, 200k , 500k etc. If you invested 100k for 91days at 10%, your interest will 2500. Will it be proper to invest N102500 in TB, just asking.

Why I said friendly is this; when you get to some banks, they tell the minimum is #1million and try to discourage you from investing in TBills. Probably because they are not really gaining anything from it.

Oh...ok. I understand your point. That's true. They encourage you to invest in fixed deposits instead. I don't think any of them is friendly towards T.Bills. You just have to show them you know what you want.

and some will not listen to you or your 100k when some customers are busy investing 4 million in treasury bills now you see the gap? that's why some don't take the 100k most especially GTbank.

how many years do you want to invest that amount to give you back your principal? that 100k can be turned into 800k in a year if you invest it in the right business. all you need is a good research.
