i dont believe this story, may be the op just want to encourage/motivate people to be hardworking but the analysis of a corn seller building a four bedroom is impracticable unless there are other sources of income; selling or making sachet water would have been a better example not corn...

I stand to disprove you my dear. I have a cousin who sells corn at Berger bus stop at Ojodu. She rakes in close to N20k daily during the season. Her proceeds from corn is what pays her children school fees and feeds the family of seven during off season. In PH where I live, I also know women who make more than this. Please be it known to you that so many seemingly low class businesses you might chose to look down on actually makes more money than u think. Most fruit sellers ad noble sellers in PH have built houses. Go confirm.

20k daily?? Why are you not selling corn? Thats almost 400 thousand naira every month. Please lets not over-exagerrate this matter.

Every entrepreneur is a winner,no matter how small an enterprise might be,it builds with time and relentless efforts. Corn industry is a multi billion dollars business and any smart cookie can have a slice of it one way or the other, especially in Africa where good is still very much a dire issue.

FYI the difference BTW a house in maitama/wuse and a house in zuba/Deidei here in abuja is d price of d land. the cost of building material is the same everywhere. and she is a house owner no matter the location. she doesn't have to pay house rent again.

My argument is that its very hard to build a house on such income.
Seasonal Income at that.

Plus, she also stated that she has other jobs too. That makes sense. Op worded the title wrong.
Lets be realistic.

90k per month Why isnt everybody selling corn then?

People make that much bro.. And everybody can't sell corn because the business is not an easy one.. I know a corn seller that goes to the Bush market to buy dem very cheap and sells expensively in the city.. She roasts every thing roastable, ranging from plantains, yam, fish, corn etc... And she is also a owner of a house and a golf 3.. There is more money in little businesses like these than staying in the office for 30 days waiting for peanuts that still don't come for months these days

OP says she only sells corn which is seasonal.
She also said she does other business.
Nothing to argue here.
Its understandable with yam and plantain.

I doubt if this will be any news to anybody that knows the woman that raosts corn at GRA Onitsha, near Benjen Inn. The woman now has corn roasting spots where her children are also doing so. She also has workers that work for her in corn roasting business. She is now a big landlady

It's obvious you know nothing about the corn business... That guy might over exaggerate a little but brother women are making that much... People make up to 10k a day just selling roasted and boiled corn... But of course it depends on where you are buying your corns from and most of these women sleep in the bush market for days just to buy cheap corn from villagers not to talk of the stress of transportation and sleeping in the back of worn out pick-up cars for days... So don't dispute what you don't know

This woman has a car and she is also a landlady from plantain yam and corn roasting.. So what stops the one dealing on corns along from building a 4-roon apartment.. Why are you arguing over a house you haven't seen? For goodness sake 600k will give you a 4 bedroom if you already have the land.. At least we should have an idea of the sort of 4 bedroom this woman would have built for her mum in the village or are you expecting state of the art 4 bedroom apartment?

The topic is misleading , its not possible to build a house from roasting. Corn because corn is a seasonal business . thank God she stated that she is a caterer and also a fashion designer ,

just because The Op wants to make FP he decides to write a False topic that doesn't reveal the true story.

We all know how much corn is sold and how much building a house will cost.
d woman has built her house and I'm proud of her cus I know what it takes to build a house even if its 2 bedroom flat talk more of 4 bedroom flat. now the headache of analysing whether she got the money from corn or not is yours. do know how many years she been saving to build the House? nawa for you people.

So why do corn/yam sellers live in impoverished areas? Their kids go to free public schools. Why arent corn sellers living in lekki with the millions they're making? In short, one of my friends mum sells yam and such, they live in face me i face you, she goes hungry in the uni etc.

Why dont corn sellers improve their lives with 400k per month.

She stated that she only sells corn during the corn season and works as a caterer and fashion designer during the on-season.

Selling corn obviously isnt her main source of income. She also is apparently married so she might be able to save some money on that end, hubby providing for her.

She also didnt state the location of the house and how much it costs. It could have been at a very cheap and extreme location, which is not bad.

We need to know the full details

I love happy stories and i am proud of her for being able to overcome her challenges but lets be realistic.

If you make 10,000 naira in profit a month from selling corn ( slight exagerration). I dont see how can eat, pay rent and bills and still be able to build a house with such income. It will take years of extreme saving.

Op should probably retitle.

EDIT:
A lot of people are mentioning me and telling me that corn-sellers make 20k daily, 400,000 naira a month
Please nairalanders , quit your Job and start selling corn.
My 2 cents

Ur knowledge of bizness makes me want 2puke what will you say 2my friends mother who built their house from d procceds she gets 4rm d FRUITS she sells. U know nottin absolute nottin

My bro to be sincere you simply analyze most Nigeria behavior.

We love exaggerate things for being praised.

If you read completely what she typed, you will notice that she lay more emphasis on the corn part. To me this is misinformation, though I love her hardwork but when she's giving a speech people will begin to doubt her credibility.
Once again I lo her business skills but be sincere with herself

Fruits make sense but selling corn for four months in a year is a stretch.

Besides she does other business by the side. I am only saying that OP'S title is wrong.

That your friend's mum and their family live in face me I face you doesn't mean all corn and yan seller lives like that... Moreover this woman was probably living there in one of those houses too while she was building this house of hers in pains and sacrifice... My brother a wise man once said " man when dey drink garri get plans... Moreover, corn is seasonal meaning only you are a wise planner you won't make much from it.
