My form A experience today with Union Bank Festac town, Lagos Due to delays by GTBank, I decided to switch banks. Got to the Union bank last Tuesday, upon up a savings account and initiated the Form A transaction. Got a debit alert today for the total sum BUT AT A WHOPPING EXCHANGE RATE OF 231.50 NAIRA FOR 1 EURO. I have already placed a call to the officer and he told me politely he doesn't like dealing with official issues after working hours but that he's sure that is the right exchange rate. From experience I am aware that CBN Form A transactions should be treated with the CBN prevailing rate of that day which as at today stood at 219 Naira for 1 Euro. My question is, for those who have done theirs, how much exchange rate was used for your transaction? I need answers because I am heading right back to the bank 1st thing on Monday for explanations. I need to make a good case that's why I your contribution. Thank you all in advance. |

kingsleymike:That amount is outrageous. I'm sure they'll tell you about how difficult it is getting funds from the interbank. Making calculations, we're looking at 1.9M or thereabout. You need to go and complain abeg. That's way too much but if they've initiated the transfer, I'm afraid there's nothing they can do about it |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Obiwannn: 7:45pm On Aug 14, 2015 |
kingsleymike: I feel really sorry for you bro..But am afraid there's nothing you can do. Though, am yet to fund, I've carefully studied the exchange rate cos of the burden the multiplier effect of a change of 1 Naira can have on the total sum. From my findings, I was able to conclude that Fidelity had the cheapest exchange rates. HOW? If you would recall, I posted on the thread some time ago that I went to about five banks to inquire about the Form A transactions. Skye, Fidelity, Union, Zenith and First Bank. Then the google exchange rate for 1EUR was 221 NGR. I found out that Fidelity had an exchange rate of 223 NGR. That same day, I found out that Union Bank had an exchange rate of 226 NGR and First Bank had a whooping 231NGR as their exchange rate. So I sounded a warning here that everyone should avoid First Bank and thanked Iyke for discovering Fidelity. Fastforward to the time I wanted to initiate funding. Someone posted here that he funded at 219.89 at Sterling Bank. That day, the google exchange rate was 216 while it was 219 at Fidelity Bank which also confirms my earlier claim that Fidelity remains the cheapest...Secondly, I inquired from a friend who went to Stanbic HQ in Lagos. He said their exchange rate yesterday was 224 which was 1 naira (or 8,040 naira) higher than Fidelity which also makes Stanbic and Sterling Banks the second most economical options. I really dunno about Access and GTB. But I think Access is on par with Union and would only be slightly cheaper (if atall). As for GTB, I would rank it third after both Stanbic and Sterling as I believe their rates are like 50k or thereabout higher. So OgaMi, there's nothing you can do, just let it go... And those yet to fund, biko avoid First Bank. Well before you'all start praising Fidelity, they've not got FX for more than a week now, So if you are kinda in a hurry, you should visit Sterling and GTB. The wahala with GTB is that they need a current account, while my wahala with Sterling is that I have already opened an account with Stanbic Bank and already have accounts with like 8 different Nigerian banks so opening another account in Sterling is not a viable option right now. And before you ask why I didnt' use Stanbic, well bad news is that Stanbic currently doesn't have FX and I was not really in a hurry to fund (but with all the testimonies I dey see for here, I need to get my own too o lol..so things have changed). Both Stanbic and Fidelity have promised to have Fx next week though, so let's see how things pan out. And before you ask why I took all my time to write this long write-up and make all these observations, well clearly observing my monicker reveals the part of 9ja I hail from lol.. and make u sef try reason am naa, every 1Naira increase in reality is an increase of 8,000 Naira (Which is Very Very Big Money In My Opinion) twinkle1: AMI OOOOOOOOOOOO 2 Likes |

kingsleymike: Union bank rate @231 is way too high. You ought to be informed if the rate is suitable by you before the transfer was initiated. Since you ve bin debited, I guess there is little or nothing you can do now. They owe you an explanation though. |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Adexhat(m): 8:20pm On Aug 14, 2015 |
@Obiwannn, you're absolutely correct as the transaction I did yesterday was at the rate of 224.34 at stanbic bank. Though it was smooth i they sent the telex to me immediately, i think they are a bit fair. Telex charge was 4000 plus other small charges like COT etc |

ogagaejay: Carry ur cash...and declare it at the airport ( less than 10kusd of course and dont gv a pin to those immigration officers..dem beg die)..the new policy by cbn is something else..u cant withdraw more than 300usd here per day( first bank master card ...) and the exchange rate as at today using first bank mastercard was 250...200euros = 50300 naira.. The Policy is good and will save our dear naira before we land in Zimbabwe like situation. But like everyother thing it comes with a price. 2 Likes |

Adexhat:Cool. Means dem don get fx b dat. How much did you transfer? How much were u charged in total to trasfer the sum? Did they insist on signed admission letter? How long did they take to debit u? How long did it take DB to send confirmation (if it has arrived)? Please list d docs u used. Thanks |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Nobody: 9:14pm On Aug 14, 2015 |
ogagaejay:Germany have no restrictions on the amount of money you bring into Germany but the problem is Nigeria immigration, if you have big money with you, you have to declare it at the airport, if you are travelling with 50 000€ and below, you will not have any problem, it is better to travel with cash than using ATM in foreign country because of high charges 1 Like |
