New Technical Education Programme Kicks Off In Abia State by Ponponkon: 8:15pm On Aug 18, 2015
A NEW technical education progrmme tagged “Education For Employment (E4E)” has begun in Abia State with the engagement of United Kingdom-based Kiara College to revive vocational and technical education in the state.

The E4E concept, which Governor Okezie Ikpeazu mentioned during his electioneering campaign, is to ensure that education leads to employment by imbuing the youths with the technical skills that would enable them become either self-employed or sought after by others.

Proprietor of Kiara College, Endi Ezengwa, said at the stakeholders’ engagement meeting on Tuesday in Umuahia that “E4E is reviving the technical components of our technical colleges, namely, Boys Technical College, Aba, Government Technical College, Ohafia, and Afara Technical College, Umuahia, as pilot schools.

“The emphasis is on the technical component of the education at Abia Polytechnic, College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, among others.”

According to Ezengwa, there is an ongoing engagement with the private sector in the state to identify their regular skills needs “so that our education can be tailored towards meeting those manpower needs,” he said.

He added that psychometric tests to determine the educational and entrepreneurial aptitude were being conducted on the youths so that they could be guided to study courses in which they have aptitude.
ANAN urges continuous learning
However, President and Chairman of Council, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Anthony Chukwuemeka Nzom, has enjoined members and other Nigerians not to stop reading and learning even after their graduation or professional qualifications, as certificates earned are just a call to seek more knowledge.

Speaking at the opening session of ANAN 2015 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) and orientation/induction of new members in Umuahia, he said the introduction of MCDP was necessary to keep up with the ever-changing need for knowledge, even after graduation and professional qualifications.

According to him, the fourth MCPD programme was the second since he became president and the training of ANAN members would continue to be his priory, especially now that the body has gone international.

I remember our good old days in boys Technical College when companies pay Departmental heads to reserve some students for them on completion of intensive technical courses.

It is worthy to note that the workshops were heavily equipped that most companies can bring their works to the school for electronics repairs, engine remoulding, spareparts machining, architectural designs, fabrication and furniture crafts among other trademarks.

Our generation rocks.

I don't know that we have such a technical school here in nigeria. Good to know that some of our schools was well equipped with good machinery.
