igbos were the original owners of the city before the gwari occupiers came and defeated the igbos in the battle of obuja(abuja's original name),the battle of obuja took place in 1834 and after the defeat of the igbos the king of obuja eze obirika mmadu III was sent into exile in 1835.

Till today indigenious igbos of abuja can be found in many parts of abuja.
