The Most Expensive Phones Nigerians Like (why They Are Highly Sought After) by lalasticlala(m): 11:54am On Aug 21, 2015 |
The widely-known law of economics states that the higher the price, the lower the demand; but that does not apply to Nigerians when it comes to mobile phones.
In fact, in some cases, the law is turned on its head, that is the higher the price, the higher the demand.
ENCOMIUM Weekly’s MICHAEL NWOIKE takes a look at the most expensive phones Nigerians like…
APPLE IPHONE 6 (N158,000-N250,000)
The Apple iPhone 6 offers a larger retina display and a new sleek design, which explains why it is hugely popular. With a 4.7-inch display it is larger than the iPhone 5S, in fact, it is larger than all other iPhone devices.
It also comes with a new processor that boosts performance and NFC with a new mobile payment service. Apple sold over 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the first week of pre-order in September 2014, with queues stretching to hundreds of kilometres witnessed in America, the UK and other parts of the world.
In Nigeria, the device price ranges from N158,000 to N250,000 depending on the built-in storage, that is 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.
TECNO PHANTOM Z (N54,000)
Tecno Phantom Z is no doubt the king of Tecno’s Phantom range. It runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and 2GHz octa-core processor with 2GB RAM, which makes it great for gaming and other demanding tasks.
One other highlight of the Tecno Phantom Z is the 5.2-inch screen, the first ever full HD screen from the brand. 1080 x 1920 pixels on a 5.2-inch AMOLED display will no doubt look brilliant for watching movies, reading ebooks, or browsing the web.
Tecno Phantom Z A7 comes in a sleek design with a 16 megapixels rear camera and an 8 megapixels front camera. Both cameras offer autofocus and LED flash with the rear camera supporting HD video recording. It sells for just over N54,000.

The BlackBerry Q10 is running a slightly newer version of the BlackBerry 10 OS found on the Z10. Flicking up to reach the home screen, to the right for apps and to the left for the unified BlackBerry hub, is just as addictive as ever.
Coupled with the Q10’s excellent physical keyboard, the hub is an even more powerful all-in-one messaging centre, serving up all your messages, emails and social network inboxes onto one super-charged silver platter. Replying to texts, firing off emails and tweeting friends all blend into one whirlwind session of smooth productivity and Android, iOS or Windows phones all seem clunky and slow in comparison. And at the heart of all this is, of course, the legendary BlackBerry keyboard, which makes up for its screen-hogging antics with genuinely useful keyboard shortcuts.
You can, for example, use a plethora of keyboard shortcuts within the messaging hub to delete, reply or forward emails.
Even better is the ability to call, text, email, tweet (and more) right from the home screen. Typing ‘call Mike’ and hitting enter will have you ringing him up in an instant. Typing ‘tw’ and hitting space will instantly let you jet off a Twitter update into the ether. And those are just a few of many examples. With just over N45,000, you’d get one.

when I stretch my neck to look at the phone "that" rich man will bring out from his pocket, I was disappointed he was using mini Nokia that's not up to 7k then I learnt my lesson.
a lot of ppl would have gone to any length just to afford this expensive phones but using 'big' phone doesn't tag someone rich. (some mumu's will say enjoy your money)
I am still waiting for the phone that will show me my future before I put my 100k on a phone that can crash at time. 132 Likes 10 Shares |

A nice list... I also like using ALL these big phones, provided that it suits my business and it'll fetch me more money unlike some other people that buy them to show and feel among. My next Smartphone purchase is the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6. Those Smartphones are crazily crazy !!! 1 Like 1 Share |
