akin3102: Like OjaP said, Canada is always the worst hit when oil prices fall. They fire almost immediately and the retrenchments are always massive. I know a couple of people who are living in Canada, got fired because of the oil prices mess and are currently applying to jobs in the U.S. I'm not a geologist but I've got geologist interest. Lol You mentioned that you are looking for ways to save as a student. Might I remind you that you're a student, your main reason for being either in the U.S or Canada is to study and not to work? Which means even if you have a part time job while working in school you will just be cutting it close in terms of finances. No student can save millions of dollars while on a student salary, either Canada or America. There is no much difference between the standard of living in the U.S and Canada. Infact I found stuff in Canada more expensive than the U.S (Maybe I'm just too stingy or that store was just expensive ) Plus it was freezing in Canada in May....when it's summer in the U.S... Lol, j/k You also need to take your finances into consideration. You mentioned that you have an Assistantship here. Do you have one on Canada? Or do you have the promise of one? To me, a bird in hand is worth a million in the bush. Weigh your options. Lastly, think about career prospects. Last semester, I was there with my advisors conducting interviews for the new GAs in my department and one of them got talking about her brother in Canada. My professor who worked in Canada and is a Canadian PR (he's Taiwanese though) said he moved to the U.S because career advancement was just not forthcoming. You might wann think about your job prospects after graduation. Do your list, weigh your pros and cons and I pray God leads you aright. 10 Likes |

Hello everyone. I found that part-time MBAs have a higher acceptance rate plus most of the full time MBAs are either too expensive or only take students for fall semester. However, it's like you can't get an F1 visa on a part-time course. Who has any information or can shed more light on MBAs/visas? |

Good morning all, I actually got admission into University of New orleans becos of the cheap tuition fee. But, recently dscovered my fiancee in texas (schooling) and her family are there too. Now, i am thinking if i finally get the fi visa would it be possible for me not to report in New orleans at all and negotiate my way into another school and program in Texas? atleast to cut accomodation cost. Like if am opting for a college degree as against a university masters captured on my i20. Thanks all. |

akin3102:I understand your concerns and fears. They're not unfounded. But please, bear in mind that it's different strokes for different folks what worked for you might not work for your friend and vice versa. As I said earlier, weigh your options well before making any major decisions. I know it's hard but it's gonna be worth it in the end. I won't lie and tell you you're gonna get visa sponsorship in America and not get in Canada. It goes both ways. I know people both here and in Canada who either got jobs that filed for them or got PR. (I dong know how Canadian PR works btw, but I heard PhDs stand better chances.) I also know people in both countries who are trying to get jobs and stuffs with no success. One was my classmate in Nigeria and he did an Msc in geophysics at one of the best schools in Canada. Completing your degree in either of the countries doesn't guarantee a job neither does it guarantee working visas. Just weigh your options well. Maybe by the time you're done, oil prices will turn to $120 per barrel then they go on an hiring spree. It's late, I'm going to bed. |

A question: As an F-1 student if i break a lease agreement of an apartment, like moving out of the house before the lease expires, what would be the penalty for that. Would i ever get my security deposit back? |

Please I need a school for atleast $3,000-$5000 tuition fee for Masters program...plus do one pay her fees completely before one gets admitted and subsequently i-20 form....or can one pay a part fee? Lastly what are the advantages of F- 1 visa in terms of work conditions. How many hours per day is one allowed to work. |

diggy4real: On F 1 the it's 20 working hours per week.. You don't need to pay part or full payment before getting your I20 but some schools do ask applicants to deposits part of their fee but it's not advisable doing that as far I am concern.. |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by Nobody: 3:23pm On Aug 21, 2015 |
diggy4real: Boss, payment of tuition before I20 form is issued is relative to schools. But, most schools don't ask for tuition before I20 form is issued. But, you will be asked to submit a financial proof as part of other necessary requirements before your I20 form will be issued. For the first academic year, you are only entitled to work for 20 hours per week and it must be an on-campus job. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by Nobody: 3:34pm On Aug 21, 2015 |
coobboy: Boss, according to a lease agreement, if you break loose from it without given the landlord prior information you might lose your security deposit. Security deposit means the amount the landlord uses to pacify himself in case the tenant decides to violate the lease agreement. I'm even planning to break loose from my lease agreement because I saw a cheaper rent somewhere. I don't mind if I lose the security deposit. But you got to be careful because this lease is binding by law, so you won't be sued when you violate the lease agreement. Study your landlord. |

The way the Indians and Chinese cater for themselves in Universities in US is amazing. They even keep study materials for themselves that new student(Chinese or Indian) doesn't need to worry about study materials. They pave way for themselves. They are like swarms. That's why they do excellently well in here. Right information is power. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Hi Everyone! I depended on an agent to get me admission this Aug 2015 and it was unsuccessful. I have decided to do it myself, armed with information gathered from this thread. Right now, i have started applying to Providence College and Cameron University for my MBA for Spring 2016 (that should be Jan - Feb). I'm confident lots of the success stories i've read on this thread had no agent involved (may be wrong tho). I would appreciate answers from gurus like Justwise and the likes to help me do this successfully on my own. Thanks. |

DARKLIGHT: Alright boss thank you so much, ita just like an oncampus housing, those people (old women) seem really strict, but i dont really care, cos i have no record or SSN and they have no access to my SEVIS records hopefully, i dont mind losing the deposit too, after paying 850 permonth, after a month i would move away from there, the money for rent is just way too much for 2people, can you kindly tell me how to persuade people to live together with you, so we could share the bill of a 2bd apartment, or 3? i be complete novice. |

coobboy: Boss, after the rent you have paid for expires, scout around. Make some friends. Tell them your predicament, you might be lucky to find a good person that will help to find a cheaper rent for you. One thing I have learned here in US is that if you don't ask questions, you get stuck and no help will be rendered. 3 Likes |
