When you choke the economy to have a false sense of appreciation in the value of your currency against the dollar that controls the global market , you're simply kicking out mini industries which is the soul of the bigger industries and provides a lot of job opportunities to the teeming population ,what will happen next is a massive layoff as a result of lack of funding from the financial houses such as banks and with the further drop in oil price which is the mainstay and driver of our economy every other industry will simply go comatose .

This is simple elementary economics my friend.
Like someone rightly said that you're stock pilling food in the house while your kids and family members are hungry just to have a feeling of having surplus food at home ,what happens if any one of the people or half of them that makes and help you stock pile the food becomes too weak to work or dies as a result of hunger will you have the same force as a family ?
The method being used to give true value to the naira and prevent dollarization of the economy is what is obtainable in sane societies. In those economies, the value of the local currency is not left in the hands of speculators that we call parallel marketers. I have been to a number of western and gulf countries and I can tell you it's not done there, how we do it here.

As far as there is enough official dollars and easy means of accessing same for the genuine purposes, there is nothing wrong in what CBN is doing.

What you envisage will only happen if those genuine transactions/businesses find it difficult or impossible to access dollars from the banks.

It is called Bubariconomics because with the way GEJ and his cronies left the country, normal economics cannot work. You make do with what you have. You guys will still be the ones to pour insults on him if the naira keeps falling.

Let him keep manipulating the economy until we can achieve a balance.

Are there businesses that has been dealing on dollars that aren't genuine in the first place ? Or the policy is simply made for some businesses?
A country whose major conveyor of the economy is petroleum products doesn't choke the economy ,you diversify and increase your exports and make stringent policies that would fast track the local contents like OBJ did thereby producing and consuming locally while expanding your markets and not keeping the dollar tight and as soon as the naira appreciates due to excess demand and low supply you begin to shout 'hallelujah' our naira is back. grin

Smh, bro this is a short term remedy - We need a surgical approach to issues concerning the economy else hard times awaits us.....on this one Buhari didn't get it right unless he prefers premature result that won't stand the test of time .

Like I said, as far as those needing dollars for genuine purposes get them through the banks, there won't be any cause for alarm.

Speculators are as dangerous as those who were dollarizing their services (some schools collect only dollars as fees, some transactions too) which is dangerous for the naira. If not arrested, and with so much stolen dollars in the market, naira was headed in the wrong direction.

Let's watch and see.

The truth is economic policies are some times too hard to understand for people who are not inclined to it, imagine the currency trader that was quoted even said global dollar devaluation, whereas its just a case of demand and supply.

Anyways there are some key adjustments this administration has made in terms of economic policies that if follow through will help the economy in long term, there are still more to be done if we want to move at the same pace with global economics.
