Hello Zopak Thanks for the good work. Can vaccination of birds be carried out personally, or must it be done by a vet? |
Re: Interested In Poultry Farming? Ask Your Questions Here by zopakks: 1:50pm On Aug 17, 2015 |
adigunbizz: Vaccination Activity Personally or By A vet Doctor? Yes and No Yes because It all depends on your vaccination experience as a poultry farmer. In most cases if you have been activity involved in carrying out vaccination activities over time, you would have a better understanding of the right dosage as well as right method of application of the vaccination process either by spraying, oral/ocular , subcutaneously or intramuscularly etc. If you do have this vaccination experience cum knowledge, then definitely you don’t really need the services of a Doctor to carry out vaccination However, if you don’t have any detailed knowledge of these, then NO!.... you have no choice than to engage the services of an experienced poultry veterinary doctor . |

Deolaw: I don't think your pen can contain 40 broilers when they mature. You need to provide for heat stove, bulb, charcoal for atleast 2 weeks to 3 when they would have grow enough feather. On arrival you have to give them glucose and vitamin in their water on day 1.. Day 2 ..antibiotics and vitamin in their drinking water till day 5 or 6 Day. 7 time for vaccination. First dose. Gumboro with milk dry milk Continue with vitamin after vaccination on day 8 also with antibiotics before another vaccination on day 14 Lasota first dose also with milk Day 15 give vitamin and give tylo doc extra on day 16 till 18 prevention of respiration disease Second dose Gumboro should be day 22 and Lasota second dose day 27 May be another person can add one or more thing N:B. You should be careful when administer vaccine and it shouldn't last more than 40 to 50minute. Good luck 2 Likes 1 Share |

Mustack: If i understand your question properly, in starting up, you can work according to your budget, I would advise that you Start small, probably with fewer birds after which you can scale up based on your initial experience of raising your first few initial set of birds. In poultry , experience is very important so as to reduce losses and learn from mistakes of the past. |

bihok:Alright. Can I start up with 1000 birds? |

Re: Interested In Poultry Farming? Ask Your Questions Here by zopakks: 5:25pm On Aug 30, 2015 |
Juliana7: For broilers it is around 2.0 ft square per bird (4-5 birds per metre square) as it can be a little bit less or more depending on your own personal observation in terms of overcrowding and as well as other social behaviours by the birds such as feather/vent Pecking and cannibalism. For layer birds, it is around 3.6 ft square per bird (3 birds per metre square). Also observe the birds and see their reaction to your stocking density and make adjustment as at when due by either increasing the space available or decreasing it depending on the current weather condition as well because overstocking during hot times of the year can be detrimental to the birds. |

After spending about #160,000 for bring up 200 broilers, how much can one except in return? Raising 100-150 broilers I will assume that you already have your pen ready for stocking the said amount of birds that you intend raising so I may not want to include pen construction cost, I will also want to assume that you have already purchased other basic equipment which include your Feeding and drinking equipment which make up your fixed cost, but from my rough estimate of 200 birds which includes variable cost of feed, purchase of D.O.C, medication, vaccination, labor cost as well as miscellaneous expenses it is expected that you should be ready to spend nothing less than #160,000 to raise 200 commercial broiler birds to a mean average weight of 1.8kg. This is probably equitable to an estimate cost of #800 per bird. As per your second question, from experience i will Advise you go for Abor Acre breed of broilers. They have a good FCR and this will enable you easily attain the desired weight at the right time putting all proper management practices into place. Make sure that they have a good uniformity when collecting them from the Hatchery. You can as well weigh them once they arrive your farm to study their growth rate. I know you can get Abor Acre from CHI (Ajanla) farms or basically find out from other experienced broiler farmers in your environs.[/quote] |

aralgreen:Actually I don't know of any drugs, but it would be advisable to change your litter frequently to avoid build up of Ammonia and it's accompanying pungent smell in the pen |

unclec2015: Check Mail , but i would re post the Answers Here Please I want to go into parent stock hatchery in Nigeria That would be interesting due to the high profitability potentials. If you can attain 80% hatchability, you would make a good amount of profit thereby creating opportunities for expansion in the near future. Current Price of Parent Stock…….Abor Acre, Isa brown, cobb. For Abor acre and Isa, the price is around #750 per bird. Don’t know for cobs Which farms will I get these PS from? I know that Chi farms Ibadan-Lagos expressway do usually sell Parent Stock at the price stated above, though it may be higher than that amount. Estimate for breeding house and grower house for PS. Estimate for the pen construction will depend on the cost of building materials In your environment. But I would recommend that you construct a single pen for the breeding and growing pen, all you need to do is to stock the birds from day old in a confined section at the end of the pen and continue to expand the confinement as they grow bigger in size and weight till they occupy the normal spacing they require in the full house by the time they start laying. So in order words ,if you are planning to raise Abor acre broiler PS and Isa Brown Layer PS, you would simply construct two separate pens for each of these breeder birds. Thanks. 1 Like 1 Share |
