For those of us who work on FV. If anybody ever asks for work sample, check if the account is new(opened on July and August) Plus the country of registration being Asia, please don't do it!

I was taking for a ride lastnite. One dude asked for a research sample with a long list of instructions. According to him, he wants to make sure I understood all the instructions before ordering my gig. As soon as I submitted the sample, the dude absconded.

I can't still believe I fell for that. Anyway that was lesson learnt. So be careful guys!

thanks, to add to that, dos guys r smart and they also use proxy to change ip, sometimes it will b a us flag. recently one asked to design a website and that it will be a weekly deal, he wl send flood of other buyers. lol. most times u knw them by dia writeup (bad english) and dia demanding nature.

And to my chagrin, most of their portfolios were ridden with grammatical errors. I spent some hours checking the portfolios of this freelancer,ameenulhaq66. I did that because of two reasons. one is that she has high ratings. two is that an employer gave both of us the same task, and the employer paid her twice the price I offered. While I have finished the project, she has not even completed the project. I think then work smart. They get the jobs and outsource for peanuts while breathing down the neck of anyone that falls for them.

I think I allowed myself to be conned actually because I suspected from the beginning; after all I had been well-schooled on this platform. but I thought i should give it a try. It's a very new account, Indian of course, one gouthamharikumar guy. it was a transcription job.After he went quiet, I sent a msg asking for his feedback. when he didnt respond, i just knew and left it at that.

After it all, I thought I should really just have transcribed part of the document, not the whole. I think that's the strategy I will adopt for these set of people who claim they want to conduct a qualifying test now. I see the guy has gone on to post two other projects, I'm following him - I didn't check what about.

Ladywriter and other gurus, not to worry, you can only help us to make fewer mistakes - we will still make some. Why Freelancer allows all these scam on their website is what i don't understand. there is so much. and lots of unserious elements who never close their projects too.

Hmmm...same guy asked me to check for spelling mistakes on a 3 page doc to qualify for his project. Checked page 1 & asked him to rate b4 going far... D guy no show face again...

Forget that thing called "chat box" o. The only useful thing you can do with it is to chat with employers and attach documents, lobatan.
The only way you can reach out to new clients is through cold emailing, but not on freelancer.

@ladywriter and other freelancer,I delivered a job for an employer and he created two milestones (after delivery) is it now I should request release?

My people, I will like to give the latest development on an issue I brought here last week about a guy I was working with who created milestone, but not ready to release them saying he will only do that after the whole project is completed.
As I was advised, I asked him to release the milestones, and I even requested for milestone release officially. But now, he has gone ahead to dispute my whole works, saying he will return my previous writings (after sending that to him over two days ago). He wants to run away with the money.
I have responded to the dispute, putting some claims forward to freelancer, but I am skeptical, I heard freelancerdotcom favours employer more than employees. I guess it is all going to be wasted efforts. It is a shame that people can decide to let people work but fail to pay them.
I am learning.

Onr need to be careful and wise while working on freelancer, most employers want to cheat you and make you work for free. Na so one guy want me to write 3 articles of 300 words before he can award me the project last night. Even this morning I was awarded a job and I told him to create milestone but he didn't reply again and I haven't accepted it yet.
So my people shine your eyes o freelancer de hot, I prefer fiverr but it hard to get orders when new. God help me o

This milestone of a thing. Is it during the PM discussion with employers that one make request for it? This is because the one on the bidding page do not gives room for adjustment from what FL have placed there.

When an employer have accepted to give the job, kindly tell him to create milestone during the chat. Do not accept any project without the employer creating milestone otherwise FL will charge you o

Another thing is that even after the employer has created the milestone, you have to review the employers profile, see the reviews other freelancers have left from their previous jobs with the employer, and most importantly check to make sure the employer has verified their payment source and made a deposit.

Since i have never written any article before coupled with the fact that most article projects I saw had so many stringent rules like "must be ready to write 8 articles in a day at $1.25 per article" I decided to bid more on academic projects afterall, if dem no see me for office dem no dey write technical report. last week monday I was awarded a project to develop courses for an academic website I did the job and the employer was very impressed. he gave me very good review and I finished within the stipulated time. The project is a long term one so long as i can think of good topics to upload on the website. I earned my first 20 usd last week. The employer has contacted to do another course content this week he said he really loved my work.

Fast forward to today another monday rajat007 wants to award me an article writing project at $1.25 per article. he is even asking for 250 to 300 words sample on a specific topic. I was bidding on article writing projects so as to develop my writing skill in that area and to get reviews but with all I have read abut rajat007 i no dey do plus i have a more juicy job at hand.

Thanks to Ladywriter Tranxo and others I have really learnt a lot. I will come back here t give more testimony

Congrats. That's great. Sometimes I look back and regret why I didn't pursue this interest. I registered on FL in 2010 when it was GetAfreelancer. I abandoned it without exploring the opportunities. May be I was looking for a get-rich-quick deal.
I then stumbled on this thread around Oct last year and decided to take action. I went to register on FL and I was told my email already exists. I thought, "wow, how could that be possible?" I then requested for a password reset and here I am today.
