Dear Job Seeker, Is Your Computer Literacy Enough? by Nnaeb(m): 5:53am On Aug 25, 2015 |
I hear people often say, ‘I am computer literate’ and I am wondering what they meant by that. The statement does not answer any question. For God sake, there are over a hundred thing you can do with a computer, so telling me that you are computer literate is very ambiguous. Bypass the computer literacy cliché and just tell me what exactly it is you can do with the computer. http://jobtrends.com.ng/is-your-computer-literacy-enough-by-brown-uzoukwu/ 41 Likes 9 Shares |

Very well said OP, I for one don't consider any MS office package user as computer literate, when I was serving I used to tell my computer students then that u also need to learn little computer trouble shooting skills incase your computer starts misbehaving during operation you can atleast try fixing it on your own 1 Like |

[size=15pt]. The truth is that the labour market is over crowded and thus becoming more competitive especially with the ever growing surge in technological advancement. You find out that most employers want to get the best hands even without necessarily willing to give the best remuneration package. The nation's economy is not helping the job seekers either. Basic Office Application is Enough! Some learnt Oracle, Quickbooks, etc Yet they can't correctly place their fingers on a keyboard. Some cannot type 1000 words in 30 minutes. Employing an office secretary who learnt all the complex and 'sophisticated' softwares, without a sound understanding of basic formatting tools on a Microsoft Word app is SENSELESS. I'd rather employ a sound and fast typist, than a sophisticated Cisco holder. Overall, it all depends on the role and nature of your job. Personally, I have no regard for all these 3 days & 1 week certifications. I spent 3 months learning MsWord, Excel & PowerPoint. Some of you PMP/Quickbook holders earned your certification after a 6hour weekend training. 41 Likes 7 Shares |
