na wa o. so meaning person wey no get money to take these courses no go get work be that? because these courses don't come cheap. @op is just one of those interviewers who would ask stup1d questions just to disqualify an applicant in an interview. i've met their type and if you look carefully, he probably got employed with basic computer skills. i'm not saying your advise is bad (for those that can sfford it) but there are other qualities you look for in an applicant to qualify him or her for the area he/she is to be employed for. 4 Likes |

Nnaeb: While the idea of going beyond the letters taught in the University can never be over-emphasized, I do not agree with your assertion that one has to acquire technical IT skills to be termed 'computer literate', that will be going for an over-kill. With a real practical skills in MS Office suite, and may be some desktop graphic design tools, one is fully computer literate. Now, for your candidate on the interview line whose degree is in Computer science, that is understandable, in fact, it is unforgivable for him not to be proficient in advanced technical skills, with one or two certifications to boot, but for every other class of job seekers who necessarily do not have any need for these advanced skills, it is a complete waste of money, and I am talking with experience. Let's say for example, one aspiring for the job of a sales executive, customer service, medical representative, and the likes, what exactly will he do with skills in advanced programing and Data Base management on the job? 2 Likes |

When you are at the other side, it's very easy to criticize and judge, and form badoo. Those courses you mentioned are not beans. I don't think there's any Computer Science student who wouldn't want to do all the listed courses if given the means to. Some of us went through hell seeing ourselves through school while some went through it on a platter of gold. Those courses are for someone who is already working or for someone who has sponsors. Keep forming badoo OP 2 Likes |

OP don't spoil my day. The courses you listed there are not even taught in some computer science departments. Basic computer knowledge and skills should get one a job, unless one is applying for a job in a field of computing. 1 Like |

Are You Smarter than The National Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Student Champions? "Where is Bayo this morning? Mr Okeke will soon ask for this Excel report. What will I tell him today again? Yesterday, I made excuses to delay turning it in. I really need Bayo's help to finish this report. I do not know how to use these Excel formulas." "Adunni, are you competing in the 2016 Microsoft Office Competition for students?" "Yes, I am! This year, I passed with a score of 894 over 1,000 but I did not qualify for the 2015 World Championship. But I have my International MOS certificate in Microsoft Word 2013 and I used the certificate to apply for an internship this holiday. The manager was so impressed with my Word skills that he asked me to resume on Monday. He told me that he interviewed some unemployed graduates last month and did not find any with practical Microsoft skills. Some stated that they had Microsoft Office skills on their CV but could not even produce a report on Microsoft Word " "But do you know four students from Holy Child College, Lagos, British International School, Lagos, Aduvie International school, Abuja and The Childville College, Lagos represented Nigeria at the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) World Championship this month in Dallas, USA? I heard the 2016 championship would be held in Disneyland, Florida, USA. I plan to study hard and qualify for the 2016 World Championship" "I also heard that there is a Microsoft Office Specialist Challenge going on now. ReadManna, the organizers of the MOS World championship in Nigeria are challenging anyone (no age limit) who can use Word, Excel and PowerPoint to take a certification exam in any of these programs between now and 30th November 2015 in participating Certiport exam centres. Participants are required to register their scores for the challenge. And at the end of the competition, the best scorers would compete against the National MOS student champions! We are going to show our parents how to use Microsoft Office programs! I cannot believe this! I will be able to compete against my dad. This is payback time!" "I must study hard for the 2016 MOS world championship and go to Disneyland next August for the world championship. Then, also compete against my dad next year." "Bayo, where have you been? I have been looking for you to help me with this Excel sheet before Mr Okeke returns to the office. Meanwhile, come and see what I am reading in this newspaper. Can you imagine? I just read that there is a Microsoft Office Challenge going on, challenging workers to compete against secondary school students in Microsoft Office. ReadManna, a company that organizes Microsoft Office championship in the country is challenging workers to get certified in any Microsoft Office program, register their scores for the challenge. The best scorers would compete against secondary school students! Secondary school students! Here I am struggling with the program! My niece, Adesuwa must not hear of this. She will not let me hear the last of this!" Yes, you are right! ReadManna is challenging workers to an Industry versus Students Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) competition! Take a certification exam in any participating Certiport exam centre in any of the following programmes – Word 2010, Word 2013, Excel 2010, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2010, PowerPoint 2013. No Age Limit. Even unemployed persons can compete. The adult participant that has the highest score and beats the National MOS Student Champion wins a FREE economy return ticket to London! Other participants that beat the their student competitiors will receive N100,000 each Companies invest heavily in computers and software but are not maximizing their investment because of low level of staff proficiency in basic Microsoft Office programs. Register your staff for the competition. ReadManna is willing to make this convenient for companies by offering to deliver the certification exams in your office. The Nigeria MOS Challenge seeks to promote the proficiency of the Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The Benefits of the Challenge • Globally HR Managers agree that certified individuals are more productive in the workplace • MOS Certification will challenge you to learn MOS programs using internationally recognised Microsoft curriculum that will help you excel in your work • MOS Certification gives you a tool to evaluate and measure your level of proficiency • MOS Certification empowers you and this improves your self esteem and confidence as you carry out your daily tasks and apply for jobs • The turn around time for producing reports would improve significantly thereby improving staff proficiency and the overall productivity of the company • MOS Certification will give you the foundation and confidence to learn other advanced computer programs Please visit our website, www.readmanna.net for more details. |
