Journey was smooth from Laagos to Heathrow. Gettin to heathrow, met a camerounian @d airport also connectin Jfk. We started talkin and asked him wat to encounter @ POE in Miami. He explained to me that i should av my My i-20 and passport handy, i was shocked and replied tht my i-20 is in my luggage tht whn i get to miami, i'll get it, the guy screamed tht y shld i make such a stupid mistake, tht they might send me bak or delay me @POE. I stood up and told him tht i'll get my bag in Heathrow, but told me not to bother tht it must av been sent to miami. Well, no harm in trying. Thank God you finally made it here safe. GboyegaD:Sir, nobody is judging anyone or wishing someone bad luck. It's good to accomodate someone for few days for free of charge and not months for bills could be shared together. Life is difficult. Lived with my elder brother abroad but was asked to pay part of house rent and other bills. At first, I was very sad but since the young man said he was helping me to become a man of my own, I took it upon me, as a duty, to offset my own bill. At a time, I told him to relax and took charge of the whole bill. I know it hurts sometimes, but it does help in the run. "Rome was not built in a day." So we all ask God to help us one way or the other. 1 Like |

DeeTus: Your brother asking you to pay was because he knew you had the means to. I have had to accommodate someone who approached me back in church then. He was having issues raising his tuition as such, I saw it as the only thing I could do to help. A few friends complained and one was insistent that I should ask the guy to take on some part of the bills. The only thing I had in mind was if I did not help him or if he wasn't staying with me, wouldn't I pay my bills? Helping people is a privilege and I will do the same over and over again if I have to. It is unfortunate that I don't have single female friends in Houston otherwise, I would have approached them on behalf of the person. I believe it is a phase the person is going through and she will cone out of it stronger hopefully. 18 Likes |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by zeezahbee(f): 2:47pm On Aug 25, 2015 |
GboyegaD:It still boils down to the same thing, not everyone can accommodate people. Go to the give birth thread, some people will eject a pregnant woman from their house. You do not expect a fellow intl student to accommodate another person for months. If its for few day, then it's fine but for so long, then it's a NO no. I know the first 1 week is always hard because you need to get some things right. I can allow anyone to stay with me for few days but for months, I can't. |

Pls I need urgent advice from professionals in the house. A friend just applied for an undergraduate addmission into one university in Michigan but the school replied that they need his school transcripts. Hence, he's using GCE to apply and combination of two results. What can he do because the school needs the transcripts asap. |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by OjaP: 3:51pm On Aug 25, 2015 |
zeezahbee: You are right. Not everyone can accommodate another person indefinitely. Personally, I don't have a problem accommodating for up to 3 months. However, I wouldn't want to accommodate someone I don't know and who is out of status indefinitely. If the person in question is registered in school and still in status, then finding accommodation wouldn't be a problem. So, what about the millions in the statement of accounts presented to the schools and embassy? Did the money disappear right after visa issuance? Many times, I begin to wonder if people think we are liars whenever we come here to advise people to be well prepared before coming to the U.S.A. With a poor preparation, a journey of 1 year may cost you 10 years. 4 Likes |

OjaP:Thumbs up, I really forgot to add that It will be hard to accommodate somone who doesn't have a source of living, Never enrolled, no Ssn. It's just gonna be hard. Some people will say It's wickedness. I had a bad first 4days but since I got money to pay rent, I was able to sort out fast. Advice to my people here, have your first year school fee even if Na community college and have your first year rent. Lastly, no matter how hard you help people on NL, they will still come back here to insult you so I actually don't blame people who won't give a helping hand 1 Like |

To those in need of temporary accommodation, you should consider talking to them at the International Students' Office. When I got to Madison, I got an American family to accommodate me for free through the ISO. They gave me a bike, winter clothes, fed me, took me to get basic things, drove me round the city of Madison, etc. They get worried whenever I didn't eat their food. Simply put, before leaving Nigeria, try to explore every temporary accommodation opportunities through your ISO. What I have noticed is that many of us don't read through the website of the school we intend going well enough. Right now, many of my friends here are even amazed I got such a deal. The difference: I did my homework from Nigeria. Remember, whatever you are passing through isn't permanent. It shall pass. Nothing is permanent in this world; bliss, pain, triumph, etc. None is forever. Peace. 10 Likes |
