There are two additional ways in which you can treat your fish if you observe that they are dying.

1) Get bitter leaf (ewuro), it should be as many as possible. Put little water inside the leaf and squeezed it very well (gbo dada) in such a way that all the vitality will be extracted during squeezing. After which you are to drain the water in the pond, leave little water to cover their body and pour the squizzed water into the pond. You are to leave them for 12 hours before feeding

2) Another one is to get formalin (can be purchase from any store that sells chemical for weeds), you will mix with water depending on how big your pond is, you then sprinkle it inside your pond. PLEASE note you don't need to drain your water before applying but, make sure water does not enter and water does not go out. You are to feed them after 12 hours.

No matter the nature of their sickness, it will flush out the disease.

Take note also that Formalin is a strong chemical if miss used it can wipe out the entire stock in a matter of minutes. Take precaution when applying.

ab1x thanks for the info.

Chairman the only thing that went wrong so far is the water management, without a proper water management nothing can be achieved. 2mm is ideal for feeding fingerlings, most farmers think the higher the protein the better but the truth is catfish requires only 28% crude protein but with a balanced amino acid at the end of the day they achieve almost same result as long as you keep your water clean and you feed your fish regularly to satiation..

www.agricnetwork.com

Thank you my sincere boss, my water management at the onset was very poor which i knew but only used the experience to test-run the business.
On the issue of protein requirement, i totally agree with you, infact i was surprise when i first came across the revelation on Fishsite article on the quality of protein. That made me to have reservation for most of the local feed being flaunt around, because the quantity of protein in a fish meal does not guarantee the quality of such meal.

How can one control fluctuating temperature in concrete pond? I am asking this question because there seems to be general believe that catfish perform best at 85degrees F, but temperature can drop as low as 50degrees F at night?

Can one therefore cover grow-out pond to generate heat in order to increase the temperature at night, or one should simply add hot water?

Or maybe doing flow through at night is what is needed to control temperature fluctuation?

My Ogas, Robonski, Dr Belexy, Abix, Excellesor, Phemmy and other please i need quick response to this question before i parboil my fish in the name of increasing the water temparature

NOTE: 85degrees Fahrenheit is equal to 29.4 degrees Celsius, while 50degrees Fahrenheit is equal to 10 degrees Fahrenheit

If you have access to flow through, you can pump water on them. I will advise you to do two things:
1) Never overfeed them in the evening. Just give them little feed. They tend to be more active in the morning than in the evening.
2) Feed them before 5PM so that the feed can digest on time

Hello everyone, I have been reading up the threads, and I must say... I have learnt a lot within minutes... I would like to start producing my local fish feed, and I need help, of where to get the ingredients in Lagos, and also I would really appreciate a complete guide and Formular for local fish feed... thanks alot

Hello peoples, have been following this thread a while now and am so grateful because I started fish farming basically just reading from here. The first trial wasn't too grand but it was a good learning experience for me. Subsequent harvest (3) have helped me financially, even though I still could improve on them. So for this, I thank you all.
Now am in a little pickle,I use coppens to feed from buying @juvenile stage for a month, then multifeed for 2months. I use the local durante till sale. But with the present prices of these feeds,my profit isn't looking good.
Please advice on substitutes for the multifeed.
Thanks.

Hello sir, why not substitute the coppens with multifeed.. i will advice that you feed with multifeed before switching to durante local or u can also use top feed, crown feed to exchange the durante. By the way how many did u stock?
Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by chubbyinc: 5:34am On Aug 26, 2015
I stocked 2000. Thanks for the reply sir.

Thanks , if i use any of these nigerian produced feeds { vital, top, crown} to feed my fish to TABLE SIZE, will i be able to get the same result as when i use any of the three imported brands mentioned above { copens, multi, zeigler }. Thanks.

You can achieve that with a good seed. mickyfish only uses vital feed till harvest and the result is simply amazing, though he produces his own seed.

Good morning sir, you're doing a great job. May God reward you accordingly. For some time now, I've been trying your line, but it's always switched off. It will be my pleasure to have your active no for a private discussion. Secondly, kindly tell me where to get a small pelletizing machine. Thanks in anticipation of a helpful response.

Bin observing this thread for a while now, had to read from the very first page..I have some questions as some answers i saw are confusing and are mainly for farmers rearing the table size. I have been running a small scale hatchery farm since march after about 3 months training with a farmer and up till date,I keep making losses talkless of profit as I av tried like 12 tyms or so ( tho some losses are as a result of my mistakes/carelessness). Now,the problem is once my fries get to six days or so,dey suddenly start dying till my trough is empty despite drugs and reasonable management (in fact I treat n call dem babies, lol). I have 4 white industrial tanks which I cut into two and 6 bathtubs in the farm. I would like professionals to please enlighten me the more on how I can manage them and wouldn't mind meeting one or two farmers around me for help. I stay in Ilorin and the farm is close to Omupo, kwara state. Please I need urgent help as I have no job n keep trying with every little money I have. I really don't want to give up coz i love the biz but am pressured to.
