If 130k policemen are deployed to unauthorized private persons how many are left for the 170 million other Nigerians?
The policemen should all be retrieved to the last and those who need security should engage private firms for that.
I think the real question should be where does the money paid by private vip to secure police escorts go? I am aware that aprt from top ranking govt officers, other private vips pay exhorbitant fees for police excorts.

Mumu, don't you know they will use it as an avenue to extort money from motorists?

How do u reason? With all due respect, the FG has to look into the issue of extortion, but that shouldn't be a reason to hammer this directive. Its a good one.
It has already been enforced in Lagos, I have not witnessed any case of extortion, but Govt can work on that too.

Meanwhile we have seen and heard all these directives on the police formation too many times. Wake me up in 1yr time to see the level of compliance. As I type this, there are various heavily armed mobile policemen guarding the homes of some so called big men in my neighborhood. The police as an institution in Nigeria needs more than this cameo-like actions to restore it back to what it should be. Just go to common Ghana and see how force and paramilitary men are properly kitted and you will instantly be hungry to join one of them.

The money goes to the same Ogas in the police force.
The dpo gets paid, the area commander gets paid and even the commissioner gets paid too. Its all a racket that needs to be stopped.

This is a good development.

But beyond this, our police force needs to move from analogue to digital.

They must abandon archaic crime fighting techniques and upgrade to modern ways of gathering intelligence and fighting crime. Biometrics must be used and govt must support them with CCTVs.

Policemen should be well remunerated and rewarded such that bribery becomes unattractive. The erring ones must be severely punished.

The vehicle owners info should be embedded in plate numbers and retrievable easily.

The living quarters of policemen should also be upgraded while insuring their lives adequately. Their police stations too should be renovated and built to look modern.

I hope to see Naija policemen someday looking and acting like those industrious, committed and efficient ones in developed countries.
That is exactly how the police in the US and the UK are. If you watch their movies, you will see how they use modern way of fighting crime to apprehend criminals.

ABUJA—Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that the over 130,000 police personnel attached to unauthorised persons and VIPs in the country be withdrawn and deployed to confront the security challenges, Force Headquarters, in conjunction with the Police Service Commission, PSC, is set to commence the implementation.
Consequently, “the PSC, in collaboration with the Inspector General Police, has concluded arrangements to deploy a high level monitoring team to the nation’s airports, highways and other public places to enforce the Presidential directive of immediate withdrawal of policemen from very important personalities, VIP, who are not entitled to their services”.

Chairman of PSC, Sir Mike Okiro, who confirmed this in Abuja yesterday, said: “The monitoring team will have the powers to stop VIPs on the highways, airports and so on, for confirmation of their status and that of the policemen attached to them.”

A statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Information PSC, quotes Okiro as warning that “any erring VIP or policeman caught in such unauthorised beat, will be prosecuted.”

The PSC Chairman insisted that “the Commission and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force will enforce the presidential directive to the letter, stressing that henceforth only authorised government officials and VIPs will be entitled to police security.

Continuing, Okiro noted that the nation cannot be battling with an inadequate Police Force, while majority of these scarce officers are in the service of few privileged Nigerians, who ordinarily should have no need for them.

He said the Nigeria Police will now be “structured to do its primary duties.”

What a sick country full of fuuktards!

The same people that have looted public funds, leading to the destruction of the economy and society, hence leading to high crime rates, are the same people getting personal protection from individuals paid for by the public.

And then you will see fuuktard like pendusky dying to protect and promote these criminals because he/she is "our own".

If this directive will not be truncated, and if the power brokers would not intimidate PMB to suspend the this good move, it will go down in history as a landmark achievement of PMB's administration.
It'll check the excesses of the few rich folks who intimidate the poor masses with armed policemen, it'll even translate to more security for the generality of the citizens.
Bravo, my President!
We need more of these people oriented policies and directives.

This is going to create more jobs as well. Security companies will come up as a result of this. By the way only a useless government will ignore her police. If there is no police there is no government get that into your head.
