Sometimes i am puzzled to how people act.

They say the Yoruba race started from IFE. We have a prince that wants to be a King in Ife, going to Kano, Kaduna, ABuja and other "NORTHERN STATES" lobbying to be the King of a Yoruba land.

Lobbying for a Western Stool, in the Northern part of Nigeria.

So what exactly am i missing here?does this mean the Ooniship will be decided in the North? or are the Kingmakers living in the North?or maybe Ife is related to the North?once upon a time, Oba's used to be picked very quietly. But now? everything has been politicized for selfish reasons.

What happened to the Oracles making the choice of who rules?anyway i am just an observer, performing my Civic duty.

It's because you lack any foresight that you make such a conclusion, the job of a king before the democratisation of our society is the economic viability of his and the betterment of his people; with that his kingdom may increase in wealth and size. He would do this by liason with other kings, conquest of other regions impossing levies on subjects and increasing trade with other kingdoms.

Any true king who really intends to earn his wage in Nigeria beyond being a tradition observing individual , would need to be well connected, illustrious, politically enlightened and honest. Ile-Ife would not have enjoyed the growth it had between 1930 and 1950 if Adesoji Aderemi was not well educated , well traveled and adequately connected. He was able to sway the FG from establishing the university in Ekiti and there we have OAU now, he did that in a few phone calls( Akintola was simply told by Awo " oba wants the university in Ife", his answer "whatever baba wants" it was that simple , so many things were done that wwy.

The first nationalist movement in SW was born in the palace of olowo of owo oba olateru olagbegi II the orogun of ila presrnt, the first meetings in UK to seek Independence way into 1940s had Adesoji Aderemi as a representative with him addressing the house of lords and commons , he was there till the end using his relationship with the king of England to gather favour ,Nigeria thus became the first African country amazing few to gain Independence without any grand civil unrest or militancy. That is how Nigeria became the gaint of Africa above other nations such as Ghana, Egypt ,Morocco and Zimbabwe who were much more prosperous than us.

I stated clearly in the second paragraph of my post that I don't support the way prince Aderemi is going about lobbying politicians.

My reaction was on your first paragraph.

Your second paragraph suggests you detest his actions because you think he isn't qualified. Like you feel his actions wouldn't have been out of place were he from the qualified families.

My own intervention is more about the actions (whether or not you think he is qualified). For all intent and purposes, he could be the next Ooni.

It goes to show that the Ooni stool as grown from just being a Yoruba obaship position to one of national importance. The position is so important that the choice of who mounts the throne next is now a national concern.

This is without doubt the lamest defense put up in a topic on NL. National importance my black azz!! Condemn the prince and not this poor excuse you are putting up.

I'm not Yoruba but I find it shameful for a revered prince and a prospective Oni to be patrolling outside his territory soliciting for ANYTHING whatsoever, albeit publicly.

Apart from the rotation policy throwing him out of the contest, this show of shame outside his kingdom at this period should automatically disqualify him.

Nigerians can make a mess of anything they get hold of.

But couldn't he have made these visits private?

He wasn't shown visiting them like this prior to now. Why the sudden private visits in the public space now when the kingship contest is on?

Bros...
I get your point, but however, nothing is private with the presence of these gulping journalist..
Am sure if the Ooni is still alive, nothing meaningful or special would be attached to his visitation..
in Yoruba land, curtsey demand u call or visit your well wishers or people who consoled and empathize with you at your testing/ ceremonious period....

on this note, I wouldn't quary is actions except something is attached to his gestures...

Shame on damola Aderemi. How can a prince from ife take off his shoes for a kano emir. Ife princes or princesses are exempted from taking off their shoes when visiting or being visited by other royals, even when visiting the Ooni. Yet, damola sees nothing wrong with taking off his own shoes for an hausa emir in kano.

The above notwithstanding, I personally disapprove of the campaign methods of prince Aderemi. The ruling house he came from is not eligible to present candidates in this particular contest, so, his candidacy is not valid. He should stop lobbying politicians to help him bypass the existing rotation policy.

National concen? How does the onni abi ooni stool affect the economy of Nigeria? how does it give us 247 power supply, how does it end boko haram, how does it even stop the ancestor rapist in y land?

Of what importance is that stool to us in Nigeria?

You are missing hard facts!

You are basing your theory on what you've read and seen from hungry bloggers that will post anything and everything just to get traffic moving into their site. That picture could even be 3yrs old. You should know better.
I take it you also believe all the abobaku lies that the bloggers have also been spreading too?
